SOUTHAMPTON. Inq. 27 Sept. [1 Edw. II.] (defective).
Rouenore. [The manor] (extent given) held of the king in chief by serjeanty of finding a man ad municionem for forty days in time of war, which serjeanty is rated at 40s. to be rendered at the king’s exchequer.
Migham. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief as of the honour of Camel, now in the hands of Queen Margaret, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
Perle. The manor (extent given), held of John de Sancto Johnne by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
Maurice le Brun, her son, aged 30, is her next heir.

64. GUY DE BRIAN alias DE BRIONA, DE BRYON.
Writ to the justice of West Wales, dated at Carlisle under the privy seal which the king is using before taking up the government, 26 July, 1 Edw. II.
CARMARTHEN. Inq. 26 Aug. 1 Edw. II.
Tallauhern. The barony (extent given), including a castle, pastures called Talkil and Haynygtors, and mills, lands, &c., in Talleuharn, Marcros, Castelhely, Heyrwer, Karvan, Belhestre, Maisgorda, Egluskeffeg, and Lasedurny, and containing 12 1/4 knight’s fees, held of the king in chief by homage and service of 2 knight’s fees, viz.—with two barded horses or eight footmen according to the custom of those parts, for three days at his own charges at the summons of the king’s bailiffs of Carmarthen (Kermerd’) whenever necessary, and doing suit at the county (court) of Carmarthen, and all his foreign tenants ought to follow the lord of Tallauhern or his bailiff for three days at their own charges on the like summons.
Egluskymin. 1 knight’s fee held by John de la Roche by service of a barded horse or four footmen at the castle of Tallauhern when necessary, and doing homage and suit at the court there.
Castel(hely ?). 1/2 knight’s fee held by the same by service of a serjeant with horse, hauberk, and bacinet, or two footmen, and doing suit as above.
Macrels and Rosgoch. 4 carucates land and a marsh, held by the same by knight’s service as abovesaid.
Pulgogam. 1/2 knight’s fee held by Thomas de la Roche by service of a serjeant with hauberk and bacinet, or two footmen, and suit of court as above.
Castelloyd and Mertherkenang. 1 knight’s fee and 2 carucates land, held by Thomas de Rossal and Nesta his wife, by service of a barded horse and two footmen, or six footmen, doing homage and suit of court as above.
Neuton and Pendyn. 1 knight’s fee.
Trefmoillet. 1 carucate land.
Hemmygis and Prestiltan. 1 carucate land.
All held by Robert le Malros, by service of a barded horse and two footmen, as the others, doing homage and suit of court.
Casteltef. 1/2 knight’s fee held by Amabel Laundrey, by service of a serjeant, &c. (as above) or two footmen, doing homage and suit of court; and 6 bovates land held by John Poucock by service of 1lb. of wax, and suit of court.
Pantclas. 1/2 carucate land held by Philip ap David by service of 6s. 8d., and suit of court as above.
Mertherkenang. 1/2 carucate land held by David de Foresta for life by service of 2s. yearly, doing suit of court.
Cralond. 1 carucate land called Cralond, held by Stephen Baret by service of 1lb. of wax and 12d. yearly, doing suit of court as above.
Dolvornych. 1 carucate …….. 40a. land, held by the heirs of Sir William de Caunville by service of 1lb. cummin, doing homage and suit of court.
Egluskeffyg. 120a. land held by William Felebesche by service of a fourth part of a pair of gilt spurs, or 1 1/2d. yearly, doing suit of court; and 300a. land held by John de Sancta Brigida by service of a moiety of a pair of gilt spurs, or 3d. yearly, doing suit of court as above.
Kilwathkilnish (?). 3 carucates land held by Guy de Brian, son of the deceased, by homage and service of a rose yearly, doing suit of court as above.
Pendyn. 1 carucate land held by Meredith and Guy ap Traharn (?) by Welsh law, doing suit of court there, and they are bound to come at every summons of the bailiffs.
Egluskeffig. 2 1/2 carucates land freely held by fourteen Welshmen, on similar terms.
Of all which Joan late the wife of Guy de Brian, grandfather of Guy who now is, has a third part in dower.
Guy his son, aged 23, is his next heir.
PEMBROKE. Inq. 26 Aug. 1 Edw. II. (defective).
Walwain Castle. The barony (extent given), including a water-mill at Malros, and a curtilage at Benton, and containing 9 knights’ fees and 3 carucates land, held of the earl of Gloucester (Glovernia) in chief, by homage and service of 1 1/3 knight’s fee, and doing suit at the county (court) of Pembroke, which barony is in the king’s hand by reason of the minority of Gilbert de Clare, son and heir of Sir Gilbert late earl of Gloucester.
Borton (?). 1 knight’s fee held by Thomas de la Roche by homage and service of 1 knight, and doing suit of court at the castle of Walwain.
Ladale and Walton. 1 1/2 knight’s fee held by the heirs of Robert de la Vale by service of 1 1/2 knight’s fee, and doing suit of court as above.
Huscard. 1 knight’s fee held by Clement Broun by homage and service of 1 knight, and 1/2d. yearly rent, and doing suit of court as above.
Rypperystone, Willameystone, Langeberch, and Noteshock. 9 carucates land held by Walter Hugh by homage and knight’s service, and doing suit of court as above.
Harauldystone. 1/2 knight’s fee held by Harold de Hariaudystone by homage and service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and doing suit of court as above.
St. Brides and Hethburch. 1/2 knight’s fee, held by Richard de Sancta Brigida, by homage and service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and doing suit of court as above; whereof John Rab’ holds 1 carucate, rendering 10d. yearly.
Herbraundystone. 2 carucates and two parts of 1 carucate land, held by John ….. by homage and rendering 17s. 9 1/2d. yearly, and by service of two parts of a bowman, and suit of court as above; 1 carucate land held by Davy del Estone by homage and rendering 8s. 9 1/2d. yearly, and by service of a third part of a bowman, and suit of court as above; 1 carucate land held by John Wydok by homage and rendering 26s. 8d. yearly, and by service of a moiety of a bowman, and suit of court as above; 1/2 carucate land held by John le …. e by homage and rendering 8s. 10 1/2d. yearly; and 1 1/2 carucate land held by the heirs of …… Hi by homage and service of a bowman.
Colystone. 1/2 carucate land held by Henry Cadel by homage, and doing three attendances yearly at the said court; and 1/2 carucate land held by Robert de Hulle by the like service.
La More. 1 carucate land held by John Hiye (?) by homage and rendering 2s. yearly, and by service of a moiety of a bowman, and suit of court as above.
Hounteborch. 2 1/2 carucates land held by Robert de Hounteborch by homage and rendering 5s. 4d. yearly, and by service of a moiety of a bowman, and suit of court as above.
Muskelwik’. 2 carucates land held by Gilbert de Musselwick by homage and service of a moiety of a bowman, and suit of court as above.
Hok’ and St. Brides. 3 carucates land held by Richard [Ho]k, by homage, and rendering 1d. yearly, and by service of a moiety of a bowman, and suit of court as above.

65. RICHARD, SON AND HEIR OF ADAM DE STUBHUSE.
Writ to the escheator to take the proof of age of the said Richard who seeks delivery of the lands of his father, who held by knight’s service of the heir of Warin de Insula, now in the king’s wardship, 24 May, 1 Edw. II.
YORK. Proof of age made on Sunday after the Decollation of St. John the Baptist, 2 Edw. II. (defective and defaced.)
William de Hetherig, knight, aged 50, says that the same Richard was 21 on the eve of All Saints, 1 Edw. II, for he was born in Stubhous on the said eve, 14 Edw. I, and baptized in the church of Harewod on the said feast, which he knows because he married his wife on the feast of St. Michael next before.
William de Rivill, knight, aged 45, says the same, and knows it because he married his wife on Sunday after the Epiphany, 14 Edw. I, and the said Robert was born on the eve of All Saints following.
John de Midelton, knight, aged 60, says the same, and knows it because he had a daughter buried in the cemetery of Harwod on the feast of All Saints twenty-one years ago, and the said Richard was baptized there the same day.
Nicholas le Botiler, aged 42, says the same, and knows it because he had a daughter born on the. quinzaine of St. Michael next before, twenty-one years ago.
William le Scmale (?) aged 44, says the same, and knows it because he took a tillage of land in Thornon (?) to farm of William de Rithre at the feast of St. Michael, 17 Edw. I, and the said Richard was then 3 years old on the eve of All Saints following.
John Connel, aged 40, says the same, and knows it because on All Saints’ day 11 years ago, the sub-escheator took an inquisition of the lands, &c. of the said Adam, and it was found that the said Richard was then 10 years of age.
John Scarthcroft, aged 50, says the same, and knows it because he (was ?) in a certain house in Harwod, on the said day and year.
Robert de Langwath, aged 56, says the same, and knows it because Robert his son died on the same eve of All Saints.
John le Scrinam (?), aged 43, says the same, and knows it because he was first in service with Sir William de Ros on the said eve and year.
Robert, son of Agatha, aged 54, says the same, and knows it because he took a tillage of land in Stubhous of the said Adam by a certain writing on Monday before All Saints twenty-one years ago.
…….., aged 60, says the same, and knows it because on Sunday before the said feast he was first clerk of the church of Harwod.
William de Ruddeby, aged 58, says the same, and knows it because Robert de ….. married Alice his daughter on Wednesday after the Purification in the year that ……….. of Harwod.

66. JOAN (DAUGHTER) AND ONE OF THE HEIRS OF HUGH DE MORTUO MARI.
Writ de etate probanda (missing).
HEREFORD. Proof of age, 11 April, 1 Edw. II. (defective and defaced.)
William de Mortuo Mari, knight, aged 60, says that the said Joan was born in the castle of Keirfilly, and baptized in the chapel there, on the eve of St. Katherine, 20 Edw. I commencing, and he knows it because Henry le Waleys, his companion, was then with him in the said Hugh’s service, and was godfather to the said Joan, and thus he has her birth always in memory.
Reginald de la Mare, aged 70, says the same, because (he had) a daughter Annora who was born at the feast of St. Michael before the said Joan’s birth.
John de Bykerton, aged 50 (?), says the same (and knows it because) the king’s justices in eyre sat …………. after the said Joan’s birth, before whom he ……….
…… Mare, aged 40, says the same, and knows it because Isabel de Wasseburne, his sister, had a daughter Margery who was born at the feast of the Annunciation in the same year.
Adam of Richard’s Castle, aged 50, says the same, and knows it because he was in service with Sir William de Mortuo Mari, who had the wardship of Richard’s Castle by reason of the minority of the said Hugh father of the said Joan, at the time of her birth.
William de Bosco, aged 60, says the same, and knows it because Adam le Lang (?) married Maud his sister on Christmas day (?) after the birth of the said Joan.
Hugh de Billeburi, aged 50, says the same, and knows it because he had a daughter Mabel born the same day and year.
Robert Judas, aged 40, says the same, and knows it because he was in service in that year with Sir William de Mortuo Mari, who had the wardship, as above.
Thomas le Henwe, of the county of Gloucester, aged 50 (?), says the same, and knows it because John de Henwe his brother ……… at Neuwe ………. at that time.
Thomas de Ros, aged ……………………….
And thus the said Joan was 16 at the feast of St. Katherine, last.

67. JOHN, SON AND HEIR OF SIMON LE HAUEKERE.

CAMBRIDGE. Proof of age, the morrow of Holy Trinity, 1 Edw. II. (defaced.)
Richard Golene of Conyton (?), aged 60, says the said John is 23 and more, and was born at Conyton on the day of St. Clement the Pope, 13 Edw. I, and baptized in the church there on the morrow, which he knows because he has a son Robert of the same age, who was baptized at the same church on the same day.
John Kaym of the same, aged 50, says the same, and knows it because he is godfather of the said John, and gave him 1/2 mark and a gold ring.
William Quyntyn of the same, aged 54, says the same, and knows it because he married his wife Thephania in 12 Edw. I, and buried her on the same eve of St. Clement, 13 Edw. I, in the cemetery of Conyton, and was almost mad with grief.
Roger de Hiltone, aged 60, says the same, and recollects it because on the same day of St. Clement he held a feast in honour of the Saint, when, all his neighbours sitting at dinner, his oven and kitchen were burned.
John Pollard of Fendrayton, aged 40, says the same, which he recollects because on that day of St. Clement he was robbed and wounded almost to death by robbers.
William Jek’ of the same, aged 45, says the same, and knows it because on the day the said John was baptized he buried his father James in the cemetery of Conyton.
Wymund de la Grave of Eleswrth, aged 58, says the same, and recollects it because in the same church and on the same day that the said John was baptized he caused to be read before the parishioners of Cornyton his charters of a parcel of land which he bought there, took seisin the same day, and was ejected on the morrow.
Robert de la Brok of Eleswrth, William Fraunkeleyn of Bokeswrth, William Morel of Fendrayton, and John Pount and William de la Grave of Suavesheye, each 50 and more, agree, pretending their knowledge of the lapse of so much time because on the day the said John was baptized in the same church, they caused their staves and purses to be consecrated, and all together took their journey for St. Andrews in Scotland.

Writ to the escheator to take the proof of age of the said John, 27 Oct. 1 Edw. II.
ESSEX. Proof of age, 5 Nov. 1 Edw. II. (defective.)
John de Tunderle, aged 50, says that the said John was 21 on Sunday after St. Luke in this year, for he was horn at Danghbury [alias Danyngbyry] on that day 14 Edw. I, and baptized on the morrow in the church of St. John there, which he knows because he was present, and had a daughter who is of the same age.
Richard de Samford, aged 56, says the same, and knows it because he was present at the baptism, and had a sister Alice who on the morrow was married at Saunford to one Stephen Goding, to whom he gave 20 marks.
Henry son of Gregory, aged 50, says the same, and knows it because on the day of the baptism he passed through Dangbury near the church and met women carrying the boy who had been baptized, and when he came to his own house he found his wife bearing him a son named Richard.
John de Bassinburn, aged 53, says the same, and knows it because he was esquire to the boy’s father, entered his service in the same year and received robes from him, and also lifted him (the boy) from the font and gave him the name of John.
Simon de Stevinton, aged 65, says the same, and knows it because he had a daughter Maud born on the same day as the said John, and also ………….
William le Chaumberleyn, aged 54, says the same, and knows it because in the same week he married his wife Joan, and received certain tenements which are of the fee of the inheritance ………..
John de Holebrok, aged 70, Thomas Bendiste . ., aged . ., Geoffrey le Stob . ., aged 55, Geoffrey le Cok, 50, R … Warde, 48, and Bartholomew Sparewe, aged 60, say the same …….

69. DENISE DE ESSEX OF HELVYNTON alias DE HELLINGTONE OF ESSEX.
Writ of certiorari whether the lands of the said Denise were in the late king’s hand from the time of her death or in the hands of others by his grant, 1 March, 1 Edw. II.

A capital messuage and land, &c. held of the king in barony as of the honour of the castle of Skipton, viz.:—
Thorleby and Stretton. 1 carucate land held in demesne.
Broghton. I carucate land held in service.
Stretton. 1 1/2 carucate land held in service.
All held for homage and service of wardship and relief, and doing suit at the king’s court of Skipton every three weeks, whereof 14 carucates make a knight’s fee.
