All held of the king in chief by service of a sore sparrowhawk yearly.
Nedirtoune. The reversion of a moiety of the town, which Robert de Sancto Paulo holds for life of the inheritance of the said Isabel by the grant of John son of Hugh her husband, held of the lord of Redesdale by service of 40s. yearly.

Writ of (certiorari) on the complaint of Letice, late the wife of the said John, that the escheator had taken into the king’s hand the manor of Michelegrave, which the said John and Letice acquired to them and the heirs of their bodies, 18 September, 14 Edward II.

Richard de Somerbury, who held the manor of Mary de Brewosa by service of 1/2 knight’s fee and doing suit at the court of the honour of Brambre, enfeoffed thereof the said John and Letice his wife, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, by fine levied in the king’s court, 31 Edward I.

MERIONETH. Inq. Tuesday before St. Valentine, 14 Edward II.
Lands called Glyndouerdo, containing a fourth part of a comote within the county; and the land of Kenthlyth, containing a moiety of a comote without the county, held of the king in chief by Welsh barony which in Welsh is called pennayth, by fealty and service of going with his men in the king’s army, when reasonably warned, at the king’s costs, and doing suit at the county (court) of Merioneth for the said land of Glyndouerdo.
He died on the day of St. Martin last 15 years ago; Griffith his son, aged 22 and more from the feast of St. Clement last, is his next heir.

SUFFOLK. Inq. Monday after St. Margaret, 14 Edward II.
Soham Monachorum. A messuage, 70a. land, 4a. meadow, and 20s. rent, held for life, by fine levied in the king’s court in 34 Edward I, with remainder to Richard his son and the heirs of his body; whereof the messuage, 50a. land, 2a. meadow and 9s. rent, are held of the abbot of St. Edmunds, as of his church, in socage by fealty and service of 11s. 11d. yearly; and the residue is held of John, bishop of Norwich, as of his manor of Batisford, which the said bishop lately purchased of Philip de Columbariis, by homage and fealty and service of 1/4 knight’s fee, viz:—10s. for the king’s scutage of 40s. when it shall happen, and rendering 10s. for the said bishop for the guard of the king’s castle of Dover.
Richard his son, aged 17, is his next heir in blood.

263. KATHERINE, LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN DE DANTHORP.
Writ to enquire concerning lands, &c., held by the said Katherine in dower, of the inheritance of William Berchaud, an idiot, whose lands, &c., are in the king’s hand, 7 October, 14 Edward II.
[YORK.] Inq. taken at Patrington, on Sunday the feast of All Souls, 14 Edward II.
Skeftlyng. A capital messuage, 3 1/2 bovates of land, 10a. meadow, 51a. pasture, rents, &c., held in dower by the death of the said John her husband, and demised by her for her life to Robert de Hedon and Joan his wife; all held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Albemarle, by knight’s service, whereof 8 bovates make a carucate and 48 carucates a knight’s fee.
William Berchaud, aged 40, an idiot and in the king’s wardship, son of Alice daughter of the said John, and Joan the wife of Robert de Hedon, aged 30, daughter of Margery another daughter of the said John, are next heirs of the said John.

Writ of certiorari de feodis, &c., 20 October, 14 Edward II.
[ESSEX.] Inq. Sunday the feast of St. Andrew, 14 Edward II.
Balidene alias Balidone. The manor, which was of Giles de Monpinzoun, held of the manor of Fakenham Aspes which was of Edmund Comyn, by service of a knight’s fee.
SUFFOLK. Extent, Wednesday after St. Lucy, 14 Edward II.
Little Fakynham. The manor held by William de Pakinham, by the enfeoffment of Sir Edmund de Pakynham, to hold to him and the heirs of his body; and the same Edmund de Pakynham holds it of Sir Robert de Insula, and he of the manor of Fakinham Aspis, which was of Edmund Comyn, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
Wykeskaune. The manor held by John le Bret and Isabel his wife, for the life of the said Isabel, of the said manor of Fakinham Aspis by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.
Resscheworth about the water (circa aquam). The manor held by the prior of Theford of the said manor of Fakinham Aspis by service of
1/4 knight’s fee.
Great Fakynham. The advowson of the church, pertaining to the manor of Fakynham Aspis.

ESSEX. Inq. Friday before the quinzaine of Easter, 14 Edward II.
Horndon. A messuage, 180a. arable, 10a. meadow, 100a. marsh, a wind-mill, 20s. rents, &c., with a fourth part of the profits of toll and stallage of the market, with pleas and perquisites of the portmote of the same, held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of a knight’s fee, and suit at the court of Wyham pertaining to the said honour.
Langedon. 50a. arable held of the prioress of Heghham by service of 11s. yearly; and 100a. arable held of John Gyffard by service of 5s. rent yearly, and suit at his court of Buris.
Gynge Laundry. 8s. yearly rent held of the earl of Hereford by service of 7s. rent yearly, and suit at his court of Fobbingge.

ESSEX. Inq. Tuesday after St. Gregory the Pope, 14 Edward II.
Canewedon. A moiety of a messuage, &c., 127a. arable, 13a. meadow, 19a. pasture, rents, &c., with the marsh of Ryngewerth containing 150a. arable, held of the heir of John de Coggeshale [a minor and in the king’s wardship], as of the manor of Bemflet by service of 1/2 knight’s fee; 20a. arable, of land called Crikeseth which was of William le Smith, held of John de Chaunceux by service of 4s. yearly; 15a. arable held of William de Sevauntz by service of 1d. yearly; 60a. of uncultivated land called Crikeseth, a marsh called ‘le Goz’ containing 100a. arable, and 11s. 10d. rent of assise of Crikeseth, &c., yearly, held of the heir of John de Briaunzon of West Thurrok by service of 3s. yearly.
Bartholomew his son, aged 7 years, 32 weeks and 5 days, is his next heir.
But long before his death the said John gave the said marshes of Ryngewerth and Goz to Robert de Bardelby, clerk, who granted them to the said John and Amice his wife, by fine levied in the king’s court, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies; and the said Bartholomew is their son and heir. And the said John on the day he died held of the king, as of the honour of Reylegh, a moiety of the site of his said messuage in Canewedon by service of 20d. hidage yearly, and by doing suit at the king’s hundred of Rocheford.

Colleby. A capital messuage, 50a. arable in demesne now lying wasted by the Scots, except 6a. let to farm this year for 18d., 3a. meadow, a messuage and 20a. land freely held by Robert del Roche of Colleby by service of 2d. yearly, 13 bovates of land sometime held by tenants but now lying waste, except 2 bovates let to farm this year for 6s., and 2 cottars, held of the heir of Robert de Clifford, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of 5s. 3d. yearly for cornage, which cornage gives wardship and marriage, and by service of 6s. 6d. for food for four of the king’s serjeants (serviencium) in Westmoreland, viz:—6d. for each bovate, and by service of 6d. of blanchfarm (alba firma) yearly.

Bullyghop which is a member of Tadigtone. Two parts of a messuage, 20a. land, and two parts of 1/2a. meadow, in demesne, and messuages lands &c. (extent given, with names of tenants).
All held of the king in chief by service of two parts of 1/6 knight’s fee. And 22a. land held of Sibyl [de la Barre (fn. 1) ], by service of 13d. yearly.

Marum. 111s. 6d. rent of free tenants, held of the king in chief by service of falconry, viz:—keeping two of the king’s falcons at the king’s cost.
Vilkesby. 8a. land held of Ralph Boteler by knight’s service.
Peter his son, aged 5 at the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula last, is his next heir.
LINCOLN. Inq. Saturday after St. Michael, 14 Edward II.
Marum and Wilkesby. A messuage at Marum, and 32a. arable and 10a. meadow at Wilkesby, held of the bishop of Carlisle in socage, and by service of one appearance (eventus) at his great court of Horncastre.
His sons, Peter aged 5 as above, and John aged 2, are his next heirs of these lands because they are partible.
Staynton. 57s. 8d. rent held of Philip de Arcy by knight’s service.
Boston. 40s. rent held of William de Roos by fee farm.
Peter his son as above, is his next heir of the lands in Steynton and Boston.
LINCOLN. Inq. Friday after St. Michael, 14 Edward II.
Billesby. A capital messuage, 6 bovates of land, 50a. meadow and 12a. pasture worth nothing this year because flooded by water, rents, &c., held of the king by service of keeping three falcons at the king’s costs, which services were anciently assigned to the king’s ancestors by the earl of Lincoln, of whom the said tenements were formerly held by the same service; 4 bovates of land, 6a. pasture flooded as above, and 20s. 2d. rent, held of John de Asfordby by service of 1/100 knight’s fee; and 4a. land held of Jolland de Bavent by service of 4d. yearly. And there are also payable to John son of the said Robert and to Katherine sister of the said John, 10 marks each yearly, which the said Robert granted to them for life out of the said lands in Billesby and Marum.

Leveneston. The hamlet (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of rendering to the king whenever he shall hunt in Dertemore an oaten loaf worth half a farthing, and three barbed arrows feathered with peacocks’ feathers placed upon the loaf.

272. RICHARD CROK.
Writ, 14 July, 14 Edward II.
WILTS. Inq. 20 August, 14 Edward II.
Haselbury. A messuage, 1/2 carucate of land, 6s. rent, and 3a. wood, held of Peter de Gavaston, then earl of Cornwall, as of the honour of Walingford, by service of 1/12 knight’s fee.
He died 21 June, 3 Edward II. Reginald his son is his next heir, and was then 16 years and 20 weeks of age; and by reason of his minority the said earl took the said messuage, &c. into his hand, and sold the wardship with the marriage of the heir, to Iseult late the wife of the said Richard: but after the death of the said Sir Peter, the king granted the said wardship and marriage by his letters patent to Alexander le Peyntour, who coming and finding it sold to the said Iseult, took nothing thereof; but when the escheator was commanded to retake into the king’s hand divers particulars given contrary to the form of the ordinances, the said wardship and marriage were included by reason of the grant to the said Alexander, and the same were taken into the king’s hand and so have remained to this time.
Reginald his son, aged 26 years and 28 weeks, is his heir.
