HEREFORD. Inq. 5 June, 15 Edward II.
Longeford. 5a. arable held of the prior of St. Guthlac’s, Hereford, by service of 5s. yearly; and 3a. land held of Robert de la Bere by service of 18d. yearly rent; and he had 8 free tenants, holding 4 messuages and 8a. land and rendering 18s. 7 3/4d. yearly.
William his son, aged 4 and more, is his next heir.

Netherebolinghope, Clehangre and Hereford. A messuage, 80a. land and 75s. rent, held for life, by the grant of John de Solers, with remainder to John son of John de Solers and Olive his wife and their lawful issue, of the king in chief by service of 1/3 knight’s fee.
Netherebolinghope. 6a. land, held of Philip de Barewe by service of 9d. rent yearly, suit of court, wardship and marriage; and 6a. land held of Peter de la Were by the same service.
Retherwas. 60a. land held jointly by the said William and Margaret his wife, for life, by the grant of Adam de Retherwas, of John de Barewe and John son of John de Solers and Olive his wife, by service of 6s. yearly rent, suit of court at Nether Bolinghope, wardship and marriage.

310. JOHN DE OVEDALE alias DE UVEDALE.
Writ, 22 March, 15 Edward II.
CAMBRIDGE. Inq. 7 April, 15 Edward II.
Lytlyngton. The manor (extent given), held of Roger Damori and Isabel his wife, as of the right of the said Isabel one of the coheirs of the earl of Gloucester, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and suit at their court of Royston (Crucis Roisie), as of the honour of Clare. And the said Roger, with Thomas late earl of Lancaster and others his adherents, having been convicted of treason, all his lands were taken into the king’s hands, and thus the said manor is now held of the king.
He died on the second Sunday in Lent last. Peter his son, aged 26 and more, is his next heir.
SURREY. Inq. Tuesday, 6 April, 15 Edward II.
Ticheseye. The manor held of Hugh Daudelee, the younger, as of the right and pourparty of Margaret his wife one of the coheirs of the earl of Gloucester, by service of 1 1/4 knight’s fee, and suit at their court of Camberwelle, as of the honour of Clare. And the said Hugh having been convicted of treason, &c. as above, the manor is now held of the king; and 100a. land held of Joan de Codestone by service of 6s. yearly rent, and suit at her court of Chelesham.
Camberwelle. The manor held of Stephen de Bekewelle by service of 12s. 8d. yearly rent, and 5s. yearly rent to the prioress of Haliwelle.

Thacolneston. The manor (extent given), including a grove called Suthagh, held of Thomas de Brotherton, earl Marshal, by service of a knight’s fee.
Neuton. A fourth part of a messuage, 24a. arable, 1a. meadow, 2s. rent of assise, &c. held of John de Claveringg by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
Writ of certiorari on the complaint of Isabel, late the wife of the said John, that the escheator had taken into the king’s hand certain lands in Tycheseye, Bendestede, Crowehirst, Camerwelle and Pecham, and the advowson of the church of Tycheseye, whereof she was enfeoffed jointly with the said John, 12 April, 15 Edward II.
SURREY. Inq. Friday after St. Mark, 15 Edward II.
The said John wished to make estate to the said Isabel for life of 640 1/2a. land, 37a. meadow, 120a. pasture, 77a. wood, 4l. rent and two parts of 2 messuages in Tycheseye, Bandstede, Crouhurst, Camerwelle and Pekham, and the advowson of the church of Tycheseye, by fine levied in the king’s court, 11 Edward II; but the feoffees did not take any of the profits of the lands, &c., nor did the tenants attorn to them, and both at the time of the said fine and after, the said John was always continuously seised of the same, and so died seised; so that the said Isabel in no other manner was seised thereof.
Tycheseye. The manor is held of the heirs of the earl of Gloucester, as of the honour of Clare, by service of 1 1/4 knight’s fee, and suit at his court of Camerwelle; and 100a. land are held of Joan de Codeston by service of 6s. yearly and suit at her court of Chelsham.
Camerwelle. The tenements are held of Stephen de Bekewelle by service of 12s. 8d.; and of the prioress of Aliwelle by service of 5s. yearly.

Folkesworth. A capital messuage, 100a. arable, and 2a. meadow held jointly, by fine levied in the king’s court, with Elizabeth his wife and Edward their son and his heirs, of the earl of Oxford in chief by homage, scutage, and service of 1/2 knight’s fee.

Hynewyk. The manor, held jointly witn Elizabeth his wife and the heirs of their bodies, by the surrender of Margery de Cryollis by fine levied in the king’s court, of John Botetourt in chief by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
Harewold. Five virgates of land held jointly as above, of John de Grey in chief, service unknown.
Pabenham. The manor, held jointly as above, for the lives of the said John and Elizabeth, by the surrender to them and the said John’s heirs of Alan de Tadelowe, of John Botetourt in chief by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
Farndisch. The manor with the advowson of the church, held jointly by the said John with the said Elizabeth and Margaret their daughter and Thomas son of the said John and his heirs, by the surrender of Alan de Tadelowe, of John Tany in chief, service unknown.
Wyldene. A messuage and about a carucate of land held jointly with the said Elizabeth and their heirs for ever, by the enfeoffment of John Rydel, tenure unknown.

YORK. Inq. Monday after the Purification, 15 Edward II.
Tynneslowe. The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the chapel of St. Lawrence, held of the honour of Tykhill and not of the king in chief, by service of keeping and mewing a goshawk, taking for the same 7 1/2d. daily, and by homage and fealty, and two attendances at the great court of the castle of Tykhill.
Le Fold by Tykhill. A messuage and 2 bovates of land, held of Sir Roger de Clifford, as of the manor of Malteby, by service of suit at the court of Malteby, and scutage when it runs.
Gresbrok. A messuage and 2 bovates of land, held of the said Roger, as of the manor of Kymberworth, by service of suit of court at the said manor.
Walter de Tynneslawe his brother, aged 40 and more, is his next heir.
NOTTINGHAM. Inq. Wednesday the feast of the Epiphany, 15 Edward II.
Nettelworth. The site of the manor and 30a. land in demesne, now lying waste, held of the king in socage of the ancient demesnes of Maunsfeld by service of 5s. yearly and suit at the court of Maunsfeld.
Nettelworth and Warshop. Certain lands, &c., viz.—10a. land in demesne in Nettelworth, and 7 bovates of land let to farm for 42s. yearly, and a moiety of a water-mill in Warshop, held of Stacy Morteyn, as of the manor of Grave, by service of 1/6 knight’s fee.
And at Averham there are due 18d. yearly for maintaining a lamp in the church, and at Le Grave 2s. 8d. yearly.

Billesby. A messuage, 32a. arable, 16a. meadow, 3a. pasture and a toft, held of the king, as of the earldom of Ferrars now in the king’s hand by reason of the forfeiture of Thomas late earl of Lancaster, by service of 1/6 knight’s fee, and there are payable for sheriffs aid and view of frankpledge 4s. 7d. (yearly); and 10a. land, 2a. meadow rents, &c. held of Roger de Cobeldyk by service of 1/8 knight’s fee. The said Jolland long before his death, charged all the above in 7 marks to be paid yearly to his seven sons and daughters, viz:—John, William, John, Joan, Denise, Amice and Mary, for their lives, viz:—13s. 4d. to each yearly.

LANCASTER. Inq. Monday after St. Botulph, 15 Edward II.
Waleton. Six messuages and 6 bovates of land, whereof Alice his mother holds 2 messuages and 2 bovates of land in dower, held of the king in chief, by reason of the lands, &c. which were of Thomas late earl of Lancaster.
Wapentake of Derby. The bailiwick of the king’s serjeanty (Serjancia Regis) and a profit called faldage, viz:—for each beast taken and detained in the fold for the king’s debt, in winter 1/2d. and in summer 1/4d. each night; and 4 bovates of land in Wavertre and 4 bovates of land in Everton annexed to the said bailiwick. All held of the king in chief by service of the said serjeanty, in form above written.
Waleton. The manor (extent given), held for life, by a fine between the said William and one Alan le Norreys with remainder to Simon his eldest son, of the king in chief by reason of lands, &c. of Robert de Holand, now in the king’s hand, by free service of 60s. yearly, whereof Alice his mother renders a third part for the tenements assigned to her in dower.
Simon his son, aged 16 3/4 and married six years ago, is his next heir.
Fiat for a commission to be made to William de Chisenhale of the above serjeanty, excepting dower, during the minority of the heir, rendering 10l. yearly at the exchequer.

The manors held jointly by the said Peter and Beatrice his wife by the enfeoffment of Hugh Bergam, chaplain, by fine levied in the king’s court, to them and the heirs of their bodies with remainder to the right heirs of the said Peter, of the king in chief by barony, viz:—5 knight’s fees.

Cory Ryvel. The manor with the advowson of the church, and the township of Langport, held by the said Henry and Sibyl his wife for life, by service of a knight’s fee; which manor the said Sibyl holds, with reversion to John son and heir of the said Henry, by fine levied in the king’s court upon which the king’s charter was granted.
Putteneye. The manor with the advowson of the chapel, held of the king in chief by service of a red hawk (unius ostricrubei) or 20s. to be paid by the hands of the sheriff at the king’s exchequer.

YORK. Inq. Tuesday after the Ascension, 15 Edward II.
Calthorn. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief as of the barony of Pontefract, now in the king’s hand by the forfeiture of Thomas late earl of Lancaster, by service of 2 knights’ fees, doing suit at the court of Pontefract, and rendering 4s. yearly for the farm of the castle of Pontefract.
Walton. The manor (extent given), including a park with deer, held of the manor of Wakefeld, now in the king’s hand, by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, doing suit at the court of Wakefeld, and rendering 7s. yearly to the lord of Wakefeld; and the said manor is charged in 20s. yearly to William le Erle of Wakefeld, 16d. to the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England, 2s. 6d. to the church of Sandale, and 4d. to the church of Crofton.

YORK. Inq. Monday after St. John of Beverley, 15 Edward II.
Hacford. The manor (extent given), held of the earl of Richem[und] by service of 2 knight’s fees.
His sister, Elizabeth the wife of Alexander de Monte Forti, aged 40 and more, is his next heir.
Endorsed with a memorandum that the said Elizabeth came into the king’s chancery at York on 20 February, 16 Edward II. and acknowledged the aforesaid John to be the lawful son and heir of the said Thomas.
Return from the escheator that he has not taken the above lands into the king’s hand, because Thomas, late earl of Lancaster, and John de Britannia, earl of Richemond, of whom they were held, took them into their hands on the day of the death of the said Thomas de Burgh; and by reason of the rebellion of the said earl of Lancaster the king took into his hand the castle and honour of Pontefract together with the manors of Walton and Calthorne, and committed them to Thomas Dayvill, and the said Earl of Richmond still holds the manor of Hakeford, asserting that the escheator ought not to intermeddle with it.

YORK. Inq. taken at Hedon in Holdernesse on Thursday after Holy Trinity, 15 Edward II.
Reston. Two parts of a capital messuage, 9 bovates of land, 6a. meadow, 2 small pastures in demesne, a small close called ‘le Conyngher,’ 5 tofts, a wind-mill, a third part of which wind-mill Anne, late the wife of Robert Hildeyard father of the said Thomas, held in dower, but was unjustly disseised by the said Thomas two years ago, rents, &c.; all held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Albemarle, by knight’s service, excepting 4 bovates of land, whereof 2 bovates held of the abbot of Meaux by knight’s service, 1 bovate held of Robert Almot by the service aforesaid, and 1 bovate held of the prioress of Killyng by service of 9s. yearly.
Skipseburgh. 3s. 4d. rent of assize from 2 tofts, held of the king in chief, as of the said honour, by service of guard of the castle of Skipse.
Waghen. 4s. 2d. from a messuage and 2 bovates of land, held of the abbot of Meaux by knight’s service.
Sutton. 50a. meadow, and pasture for 1,000 sheep in Sutton, Sotcotes and Dripole, held of John de Sutton by service of a pair of gloves or 1d. yearly,
Tunstall and Fytlyng. The services of 7 carucates of land, which yield wardship and marriage when they shall happen, held of the king in chief, as of the said honour, by knight’s service.
Robert his son, aged 3 and more, is his next heir.
Anne, late the wife of Robert Hildeyard his father, holds in dower 10 marks of land, the reversion whereof pertains to the said Thomas’s heir.
Memorandum. John de Merkyngfeld holds 30a. meadow in Sutton, of the inheritance of the son and heir of Thomas Hildeyard, now in the king’s wardship, by virtue of the statute of Acton Burnel, and they are held of John de Sutton by service of 1d. yearly.

The manor (extent given), together with 39a. pasture, a park of 61a. underwood, 19a. pasture and garden, and rents of assise, acquired of Walter de Langeton, late bishop of Coventry and Lichfield; all held of John de Ryveres by service of a knight’s fee, excepting 5a. wood and 12a. pasture held of Michael Cherye by service of 1d. yearly.
Elmedon. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of 1/4 knight’s fee.
Great Saumford. A messuage, a grove, 60a. land and 4a. meadow, held of Ralph Giffard by service of 1d. yearly; 16a. land held of William de Dacre by service of 1d. yearly; 4a. land held of John de Watevill by service of 1/2d. yearly; and 2a. meadow held of John son of Simon by service of 1/2d. yearly.
He died on Wednesday after St. Edmund the Archbishop last. Heir as above, of full age.
Memorandum that the abovesaid tenements in Cryshale which Nicholas de Segrave acquired of Walter de Langeton, are challenged as his right by Edmund Peverel, kinsman and heir of the said Walter, a minor and in the king’s wardship, wherefore the escheator has not delivered wardship thereof to Robert de Insula, to whom the king granted the wardship of the lands which were of the said Walter during the minority of the said Edmund, as well on account of this claim, as of that of the heir of the said Nicholas.

The manor (full extent given), held of the king in chief as of the castle of Norwich by service of a knight’s fee; out of which are due to Adam de Swylington 4s. 6d., to William le Parker 6s. 8d., for the church of Pesinhale 6d., for the king’s ‘felsneth’ 12d., and for the guard of the castle of Norwich 5d. yearly.

Amice de Hauvill sometime lady of the manor of Weston by Keten, granted to Hasculph de Witewell and Maud his wife, their heirs and assigns, for the maintenance of their house in Keten, a 3 horse cartload of estovers weekly, or once a year at their choice anywhere in the whole wood of Weston, and one good oak yearly, with free ingress and egress wherever they shall see best; and they were seised thereof until the manor was taken into the king’s hand by the death of Nicholas de Segrave. The manor is not held of the king but of John de Oddingseles by knight’s service.
