ESSEX. Inq. 14 May, 15 Edward II.
Estwode. A messuage, 146a. land, 6a. meadow and 13s. rent, held jointly by the said Philip with Joan his wife by fine levied in the king’s court, of the king in chief, as of the honour of Reilegh, by service of 1/6 knight’s fee, and suit at the hundred (court) of Rocheford, and at the court of the honour of Reilegh; 24a. land held jointly by the same fine, of the king, as of his manor of Estwod, by service of 24s. yearly and suit at the court of the manor; and 8a. wood similarly held by service of a clove gillyflower yearly.
Sutton. A messuage, 170a. land, a water-mill, and 15s. rent, held jointly as above, of the king in chief, as of the honour of Reilegh, by service of 1/4 knight’s fee and suit at the hundred of Rocheford, and at the court of the honour of Reilegh.
Rocheford. 4s. rent held jointly as above, by the aforesaid fine, of Robert de Rocheford by service of 2s. yearly.
Assyndon. 20a. land held jointly as above, of Ralph Perot by service of 1/20 knight’s fee; and 8a. land similarly held of Robert de Baihouse by service of 12d. yearly.
He died 16 April last, and the said Joan survives. John his elder son, aged 8, is his next heir.

Little Totham. Two parts of the manor (extent given), with two parts of the advowson of the church of Goldhangre, held, together with the third part which William de Maldon and Alice his wife hold as the said Alice’s dower, of the king in chief as of the honour of Haule by service of a knight’s fee, 40s. for the guard of the castle of Dover, and suit at the court of Haule.
Little Totham and Goldhangre. 80a. land and 12s. rent, held of the prior of Hatfeld Peverel by service of 22s. yearly.

Heveningham. The manor was sometime held by the said Philip, but he demised the same to William de Maldon and Alice his wife to hold for the life of the said Alice, with reversion to himself and his heirs.

Wormhull. A messuage and 30a. land, held of the king in chief by serjeanty, viz:—by service of keeping the king’s forest of Campana in the Peak in person with bow and arrows.
Tiddeswell and Wheston. A ruinous messuage, 30a. land, a water-mill, a free court, and 6l. 13s. 4d. yearly rent, held jointly by the said Richard and Joan sometime his wife, to them and the heirs of their bodies, of the king in chief, as of the castle of the Peak (Pecko) now in the king’s hand, by service of 60s. yearly.
Tiddeswell. 46s. 5d. rent and 76a. land, held jointly by the said Richard and Maud sometime his wife, of the king as of the castle abovesaid, by the service abovesaid.
Spoundon. Eleven cottages and 2 bovates of land, held jointly by the abovesaid Richard and Joan, to them and the heirs of their bodies, of the earl of Lancaster by service of 12d. yearly.
His daughters, Elizabeth aged 24, whom Thomas Meverel married, Katherine aged 23, whom Thomas le Curzon married, and Joan aged 13 at the feast of the Purification last, are his next heirs.
DERBY. Inq. Monday after St. Valentine, 15 Edward II.
Wormhull, &c. To the same effect as above. Endorsed with a memorandum that the said Maud made fine with the king for 40s. for the lands in which she was jointly enfeoffed as abovesaid.

326. RICHARD DANYEL of Tyddeswell.
Writ to the escheator having taken security for her relief, to cause Elizabeth, eldest sister (sic) and one of the heirs of the said Richard, whom Thomas Meverel, now deceased, married, to have full seisin of a third part of a messuage in Wormhill, co. Derby, and of the reversion of 10a. land there, which with her assent and that of Katherine and Joan, second and third daughters and heirs of the said Richard, the king assigned to Maud, late the wife of the said Richard, in dower, and also of her reasonable pourparty of all the other lands, &c., of which her said father died seised, and to send the partition to be enrolled in the chancery as the custom is, 16 November, 16 Edward II.

Geoffrey his son, aged 17 at Whitsunday next, is his next heir.

Sabrichtesworth. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by knight’s service; from which there are due to Robert de Stanegrave 10l. yearly for life, which the said Geoffrey gave him three years ago without the king’s licence.

Alfithelegh. The manor (extent given), held jointly by the said William with Iseult his wife, by fine levied in the king’s court by which Master Robert Inge granted the same to the said William and Iseult and to Fremund Inge and the heirs of the bodies of the said William and Iseult, with remainder to the right heirs of the said William, of the earl Marshal by service of 1/2 knight’s fee; and the said Iseult survives and there is no heir between them; and the said Fremound granted to the said William and Iseult that they should have the whole manor and its issues and profits for their lives.

The manor (extent given), with the advowson of the church, and the advowson of a moiety of the church of St. Edmund the King, Thaverham, held of Robert de Morle and Hawis (Hathewisia, Hatewisia), his wife, as of the inheritance of the said Hawis, by service of 2 knights’ fees, and rendering 7s. 6d. yearly at the manor of Hokeryngg.
His nephew, a son of Robert Peverel, name and age unknown because he was not born in Norfolk, is his next heir.

Picheford. The manor (extent given), held of Sir John de Chetewynde by service of 1/2 knight’s fee.

Skalleby. A place called ‘le Northallestede’ with garden, and 2 1/2 bovates of land lying uncultivated, held of the earl of Lincoln by knight’s service; 2 1/2 bovates of land lying uncultivated, rents &c. held of John de Moubray by knight’s service, rendering 2s. yearly of warnoth; and a place called ‘le Southallestede,’with 15 bovates of land lying uncultivated, 2a. meadow, rents &c. held of John son of Philip Paynel of Rasen by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and rendering 10l. yearly for life to Alice, late the wife of Reginald son of Jordan de Wethresfeld, because the said Walter took to farm two parts of the said lands &c., which were held of John Paynel as is said, from Richard de Kirkeby and Henry de Birton, who married Agnes de Skalleby and Katherine her sister, to hold to the said Walter and his heirs and executors for the life of the said Alice, rendering to her the said 10l. yearly, with condition that if the same should be unpaid for one month after any term, it should be lawful for the said Alice to enter upon and hold the said lands &c., and especially (maxime) because the said Alice held the same for life of the gift of one Robert de Haspal, and demised them to farm to the said Agnes and Katherine de Skalleby rendering 10l. yearly, and under the same conditions the said Walter took them to farm from the said Richard and Agnes, and Henry and Katherine.

Writ of plenius certiorari on the complaint of Peter le Mareschal and Isabel his wife that since the manor of Offord Deneys came to the king’s hand, the escheator has not satisfied a rent of 24l. and 2 robes yearly, which the said Walter granted them for the life of the said Isabel, 1 June, 15 Edward II.

The said bishop by writings of 8 Edward II. granted to Peter le Mareschal and Isabel his wife 24l., and 2 robes worth 40s. or 40s. yearly, for the life of the said Isabel, to be received from the manor of Offord Deneys, which the said bishop had acquired of the said Isabel whilst she was sole; and they peacefully received the same before the said bishop’s death. The manor is held of the honour of Huntingdon, now in the king’s hand by the forfeiture of Robert le Breus, by service of a knight’s fee, scutage when it runs, and suit of court at Huntingdon every month.
