Writ to the escheator in cos. Wilts, Buckingham &c. 26 June, 17 Edward II.

[Polycote?] The manor [extent given], held of the king in chief ……..
[Donyton.] The manor (extent given), including a rent from Hertwell as appears below, held of the king in chief as of the barony of [Swanscombe], by service of a knight’s fee.
Bichyndone. The manor (extent given), including the fishery of a water-mill, held of the king in chief, by the said Aymer de Valencia, late earl of Pembroke, as of the honour of Walyng[ford], by service of 1/2 knight’s fee, and suit at the court of Walyngford every three weeks.
(Unspecified.) Two virgates of land with a garden and an adjacent plot, held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Walyngford, without any service.
Cherdesle manor. 6 marks rent yearly, which the said earl demised to Peter Carbonel, Isabel his wife, and John their elder son, for their lives, with reversion to the said earl or his heirs.
Hertwell. 4l. yearly rent from 18 free tenants for 52a. arable and meadow, held of the king in chief as of the honour of Rochester by service of 12d. yearly, for the guard of the castle of Rochester. The said rent is contained above in the extent of the manor of Donyton.
John de Hastynges, the Countess of Arseles, and Elizabeth Comyn, are his next heirs and of full age. And again the jurors say that John de Hastynges, and Joan and Elizabeth, daughters of the late John le Comyn, knight, are his next heirs and of full age.
BUCKINGHAM. Extent. 13 February, 18 Edward II.
Cherdeslee. The manor (extent given), held by Peter Carbonel, to himself Isabel his wife and John their son, for the life of the longer liver; and Helen de Boktot holds for life a messuage and land (extent given), within the manor; and the said Peter &c. defend the said manor, with the reversion of the lands held by the said Helen, for a knight’s fee, and they pay 4l. yearly to the heirs of the said Aymer. All the above are held of the Marshalsey by service of a knight’s fee.

Certain tenements called ‘la Mothe’ held by the said Aymer and Mary, his wife, who survives, to them and the heirs of the said Aymer, by the gift of John de Radeswell and another, of the earl of Richmond by service of 29s. 8d. (?) yearly, of the rector of the church of Cesthunte by service of 9s. 6d. yearly, of the prior of ….. Byshopesgate by service of 10s. 10d. yearly, of John Andreu by service of 16s. yearly, of John de Kersebrok by service of 7s. 2d. yearly, of … de Chesthunte by service of 5s. yearly, and of the church of Chesthunte and others by divers small services.

Mary late the wife of the said Aymer has an estate therein for life, but by what title is unknown to the jury.

Brabourne [alias Bradeburn], The manor, with its members Sottone and Iestsutton whereof he died seised and which are now in the king’s hands, and Kemesynge, Folsham and Stokes with other members contained in the king’s charter, whereof he did not die seised, and they are now in the hands of divers tenants names unknown (extent given), including the advowson of the church of Henxell, meadows in Saltwodemed and Gerdebaneresmed, pasture in Poundes, Oxelese, and Coulese, and rents in la Welde in Herne, &c. held of the king in chief by service of 3 knights’ fees. Return from the escheater that he cannot fully execute this mandate for he has finally accounted at the king’s exchequer concerning the said lands and issues from 23 June in the king’s 17th year, when the said Aymer died, to the feast of St. Michael following, and is accounting at present for the said issues from that feast in the 18th year to the same in the 19 th year, which he is prepared to deliver together with the lands &c. if the said mandate is returned to him.
