83. ELEANOR, LATE THE WIFE OF WALTER DE TRAILLY.
Writ of certiorari super vero valore to Adam de Lymbergh and Walter de Mollesworth, to extend the lands &c. which the said Eleanor held of the inheritance of Walter son and heir of John de Trailly, and grandson of the said Walter de Trailly, a minor and in the king’s wardship, 5 June, 10 Edward II.
Writ of venire facias to the sheriff of Bedford to summon a jury, 5 June, 10 Edward II.

Yevelden. The manor (extent given). She held no more lands &c. in Yevelden of the inheritance of Walter son and heir of John de Trailly, on the day she died.

Northyevel. The manor (extent given), charged yearly to the king with an aid of 2s. called ‘Sherriveshot.’ She held no more lands there of the said inheritance.

Couye. The manor (extent given), charged with 2qr. corn and 2qr. barley yearly to the heirs of William Cok, for 8a. land which William de Hobrigg, sometime lord of the manor, purchased of the said William and afterwards gave to a chaplain celebrating daily in the chapel of St. Nicholas there for the souls of his ancestors and heirs, and with 5d. yearly for Sherriveshot. She held no more lands &c. of the said inheritance in the county, on the day she died.

Asschelworth. A messuage, a virgate of land and 3a. meadow, held by the said William, and after his death by the said John his son and heir, of the abbot of St. Augustine’s, Bristol, by service of 24s. yearly.
The said William died on the feast of St. Nicholas, 8 Edward II, and the said John on Whitsunday last.
John, son of the said John, aged 16, is his next heir.

Penyngsthorp. Three bovates of land held in service of the king as of the honour of Albemarle.
Holmeton. A carucate and a half and half a bovate of land, held in service of the king.
Preston. A carucate of land held in service.
Holaym. Three bovates of land held in service.
All which tenements, whereof 48 carucates make a knight’s fee, he held of the king by homage, fealty and scutage, rendering 10d. yearly for the guard of the castle of Skypse, and 10d. for aid of the sheriff of York.

The manor, sometime acquired by the said John and Isabel his wife of Alice de Langele, to hold to them and the heirs of their bodies, of whom (sic) the same John begat a daughter, Elizabeth, who is aged 24 and more, held of divers lords, viz.—Thomas de Hoding, Sir Richard de Wyndesores and Richard Aunger, by divers services; and the said John, after the death of Isabel his wife, demised the manor to Richard de Waledun for life, who is still seised thereof.

Quenton. A messuage, 150a. arable, and 10a. meadow, held for life, of the inheritance of the said Philip, of John de Hastyngges in free socage by service of 1/2d. yearly; and a piece of land called Holte similarly held of the prior of St. Andrew’s, Northampton, by service of 5s. and 3 capons yearly; in all of which the said Alice was enfeoffed jointly with the said Philip by Robert de Hastang’, to them and the heirs of the said Philip.
His daughters, Beatrice aged 7, Amice aged 5, and Cecily aged 5, are next heirs of the said Philip.

Hale. A messuage, 20a. arable, 1 1/2a. meadow and 5s. rent, held in dower of the inheritance of Robert son and heir of the said William, of the king in chief as of two parts of lands, &c. which the said William and Joan (sic) late his wife on the day he died, held jointly to them and the heirs of the said William, by service of 9s. to be yearly rendered at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff, as for a serjeanty sometime rated to the king.

The said Robert was 24 on the feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Mary last, having been born at Wodeneuton in a chamber in the upper part of the hall of John de Holt, and baptized in the church there on that feast 21 Edward I; and the jury know this because on that day the prior of Fynnesheved held a great feast at Fynnesheved by Wodeneuton at which many of them were present, and the said Robert (sic) came there and announced the birth of his son Robert.

Herterugge. A virgate of land held in fee of Elizabeth de Herterugge rendering 19s. 4d. yearly.
Tyghlhurst. 2a. meadow held in fee of the abbot of Radinges, service unknown.

Presthorp, a hamlet of Bingeley. A messuage and 20a. land with meadow and waste, were held by the said Nicholas of William de Harecourt, lord of Bingeley, by homage and service, 8s. yearly rent, and suit at the court of Bingeley, and are in the king’s hand by reason of his idiocy.
Henry de Hiperoum, aged 40 at the feast of St. Michael last as the jury believe, is his next heir.

Aylbrizton by Olviston. A capital messuage, &c. 8a. arable enclosed, 4 virgates arable, 36a. meadow, 100a. pasture as well in a little grove as elsewhere, two windmills, rents &c. held of the king in chief by service of 1/10 knight’s fee.
Thomas his brother, aged 22, is his next heir.
GLOUCESTER. Indenture of assignment of dower to Maud late the wife of the said John in Ailbertone abovesaid (full extent given), comprising a third part of the whole messuage, &c. Monday before SS. Simon and Jude, 11 Edward II.
GLOUCESTER. Inq. Thursday after St. Vincent, 11 Edward II.
Ailbrighton. A messuage, 4 virgates of land, 26a. meadow, 2 windmills, 10s. rent and 40a. pasture, held of the heir of John Abadam, who held the town of the king in chief, a minor and in the king’s wardship, by service of 1/10 knight’s fee, 2d. yearly rent, and suit at the said heir’s court twice yearly.
The aforesaid John Tropyn died on 3 May last, and the aforesaid Thomas his brother and heir being of full age entered upon the same, and was in peaceful seisin for six weeks and more, when he granted it to John Fraunceys of Bristol, the elder, who held it for seventeen weeks and more until Monday before SS. Simon and Jude, when it was taken into the king’s hand, and a third part was assigned in dower to the abovesaid Maud.
