Hertlowe. Two parts of a toft and of 20a. land, held of Robert de la Vale by service of 1 1/2d. yearly. The tenants at will pay 5s. yearly.
Richard de Cramelington, his brother, aged 23 years at the feast of St. Andrew last, is his next heir.
Endorsed: It was found by an inquisition taken after the death of Richard, father of the said John, and returned into the chancery, 17 Edward II, that the said Richard held the said lands by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee.

Couelesfeld Loveras. A messuage, two carucates of land, 80a. pasture, 60a. wood, and six marks rent, held for his life of the king in chief by service of doing suit at the king’s hundred (court) of Furstesfeld every three weeks; whereof the reversion belongs (spectat) to Roger Norman and Joan his wife and the heirs of the said Roger, to hold of the said king by fine levied in the king’s court with the king’s licence.
Richard de Loveras, aged 40 years and more, is his next heir.
SOUTHAMPTON. Inq. taken at Winchester on Thursday before St. Nicholas, 13 Edward III.
Westuderlegh. The manor, and the bailiwick of the forestry of the forest of ‘la Boukholte,’ and 18d. rent in Lokerlegh, held for his life only of the grant of Roger Normaund and Joan his wife by fine levied in the king’s court, with reversion to the said Roger and Joan and the heirs of the said Roger; whereof the said manor was held of the said Roger and Joan by service of a rose yearly, and the said 18d. rent of the king in chief, by service of keeping the forest of ‘la Boukholt.’
He died on 11 October last.

Tamworth. The castle (extent given) held for her life of the king in chief, by the king’s licence, by service of coming to the king’s coronation, armed from head to foot (universaliter) with royal arms of the king’s livery, seated on the king’s chief charger, offering herself to do proof for the king against all gainsaying his coronation; and if no one shall gainsay, the arms and horse shall be to the king, but if anyone shall oppose and join issue (congressum faciat), the arms and horse shall remain to the said tenant; with reversion to Baldwin de Frivill and his heirs, according to a fine levied in the king’s court.
Baldwin de Frivyll, aged 40 years and more at the feast of St. Michael last, is her next heir.

A toft and 9a. land held for his life, by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Juliana Fryland, late his wife, of the king in chief, as of the honour of Dover, by service of a fortieth part of a knight’s fee and rendering yearly for the ward of the said castle 1 1/2d.; 2 1/2a. land in gavelkind similarly held of the master of the hospital of Estbrugge, Canterbury, by service of 3s. yearly; and a messuage, 20a. land, and 6a. pasture similarly held in gavelkind. of John de Wylmynton and Nicholas de Sandwyco by service of 10s. yearly.

Paunton. A messuage and land (extent given) held of the archbishop of York by knight’s service, but for how much is unknown.
Hogesthorp and Mumby. Four bovates of land, each containing 12a., held of the earl of Richemond by service of two attendances yearly at the soke of Mumby.
He held no other lands as of fee &c.
Cecily de Paunton, aged 28 years, whom Hugh de Cressy married; Alice de Paunton, aged 26 years, whom Robert de Toutheby of Wragby married; and Isabel de Paunton, aged 22 years, whom Walter le Baxtere of Waynflet married, are his sisters and next heirs.

YORK. Inq. taken at York on Tuesday before SS. Philip and James, 13 Edward III.
Estbrunne. Two messuages and four and a half bovates of land held by the courtesy of England, after the death of Joan sometime his wife, of the inheritance of the same Joan, of the king in chief, as of the crown, by service of an eighth part of a barony.
Thorp Arches. The manor (extent given) similarly held of Sir John de Moubray by knight’s service, and by doing suit at the said Sir John’s court of Thresk every three weeks; the manor is charged by Peter de Brus, sometime lord thereof, time out of mind, to the ancestors of the feoffors of Thomas Fairefax, that now is, in 66s. 8d. yearly, and the said Thomas was seised thereof until the said Aucher’s death.
Tibbetthorp. The manor (extent given) similarly held of Sir William de Ros of Hamelak by knight’s service, and by rendering a sore sparrowhawk to him yearly.
He held no other lands &c. on this side Trent.
Henry, son of the said Aucher and Joan, aged 40 years and more, is next heir of the said Joan.

LONDON. Inq. Friday after the Purification, 13 Edward III.
London. A messuage in the suburb called the prison of Flete, and certain rents in the said city and suburb worth 10l. yearly, held for life, by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Joan, sometime his wife, daughter and heir of Stephen de Levelonde, of the king in chief by serjeanty of keeping all the prisoners committed there, and also by repairing the bridge of Flete as often as it shall be necessary.
John, son of John Shench and of the said Joan, aged 30 years and more, is next heir of the same Joan.

MIDDLESEX. Inq. 6 February, 13 Edward III.
Westminster. The bailiwick of the custody of the king’s palace held for his life, by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance and right of Joan, sometime his wife, of the king in chief, taking of the king by the hands of the sheriff of London 6d. daily, and taking, when the king shall be at Westminster, within the close of the said palace, every day as long as the king shall stay there, in bread, ale, wine, dishes, kitchen and candle, as one of the king’s servants, and, at every departure of the king from the said palace, whatever shall remain in the same of fuel, litter in the chamber, hay in the stables, with the old shingle and manure within the said palace; and receiving, likewise, of every merchant who has his stall [or] booth within the hall of the said palace 8d. yearly, and of every other merchant not having a booth, and carrying his merchandise, 4d. yearly. He held there a messuage within the close of the said palace, pertaining to the said bailiwick, in which he and the ancestors of the said Joan, keepers of the said palace, along with their servants, for doing the said keeping, used to live; and the said keeper needs to have two others with him for doing the said keeping. He had without the gate of the said palace five tenants, rendering 2s. yearly, and the suit due at the said Edmund’s court every three weeks. He held the said rent of Alexander Convers, service unknown. He held no other lands &c. except certain lands &c. in the city of London, but how much is unknown.

NORTHAMPTON. Inq. 7 July, 13 Edward III.
Laxton. A third part of the manor, and a third part of the manor of Pyghtesle, held in dower after the death of the said John, sometime her husband, of his inheritance; which manors are held of the king in chief by service of hunting the cat, fox, and badger in certain counties.
Blatherwyk. The manor held for her life jointly with the said John, sometime her husband, by fine levied in the court of King Edward II, to hold to them and the heirs of the body of the said John, with remainder to Nicholas, his brother, and the heirs male of his body, and further remainders successively to John, son of the said Nicholas, and the heirs male of his body, to Henry, brother of the said John, and the heirs male of his body, and to the right heirs of the said John Engayne, as appears more fully in the said fine; which manor is held of Ralph Basset of Weldon, by knight’s service. The said John died without heir of his body, the said Nicholas is dead; and the said John and Henry, sons of the said Nicholas, survive.
The said John, son of Nicholas, aged 30 years, is kinsman and heir of the said John Engayne of the third part of the said manors of Laxton and Pyghtesle, and to him pertains, by virtue of the said fine, the reversion of the said manor of Blatherwyk, after the death of the said Helen.
HUNTINGDON. Inq. taken at St. Neot’s, 12 July, 13 Edward III.
Geddyngg. A third part of the manor held in dower of the inheritance of the said John; which manor is held of the king in chief by service of hunting the cat, fox, and badger in certain counties.
Grafham. The manor similarly held of the earl of Gloucester by knight’s service.
John Engayne, kinsman of the said John, aged 30 years and more, is his next heir of the above.
Dillyngton. The manor, held for her life, jointly with the said John and Nicholas Engayne his brother, of the gift and enfeoffment of Henry de Stradbroke and Thomas de Arderne, to hold to them for their lives, by fine levied in the court of King Edward II, with successive remainders to the said Nicholas for life, and to John son of the said Nicholas, and Joan daughter of Robert Peverel, and the heirs of the said John by the said Joan, and to the right heirs of the said John Engayne; which manor is held of the abbot of Rameseye, by knight’s service.

A moiety of a messuage and a carucate of land (extent given) held for her life, of the inheritance of the said Thomas, of the king in chief by service of bringing a roast of pork (hastam porci), price 2 1/2d., to the king when he shall hunt in person in his park of Cornbury, with this understanding, that the said roast be brought once, by herself or by another person, at the king’s first hunting, for all the time he shall stay at his manor of Wodestok.

New Bokenham, Old Bokenham, Atilbourgh, and Elyngham. Nine messuages, 156a. 1/4r. land, 5 1/2a. meadow, 3a. pasture, 7s. 0 1/2d. rent, a rent of two sparrowhawks, and a moiety of a pasture called Rowedyk, and a third part of the manor of Wymondham, and an eighth part of the manor of Bokenham, held jointly with Alice his wife, who still survives, of the king in chief by serjeanty, together with other manors, lands and tenements, which sometime were of the earl of Arundell, by service of serving as cupbearer to the king on the day of his coronation, by the gift and enfeoffment of Gilbert de Bernak, parson of the church of Tatishale, and John de Gyselyngham, parson of the church of Wolverton, to hold to the said William and Alice and the heirs of their bodies, of the king by the accustomed services, by licence of King Edward II, required in that behalf.
Hedersete. The manor held jointly by the said William and Alice, by fine levied in the court of King Edward I, to them and the heirs of their bodies, of John [de] Britannia, earl of Rychemond, in free socage, by fealty only, as of the said honour.
Besthorp. The manor called Plassies held of the gift of Robert de Tatishale, to him and the heirs of his body, of Adam de Clyfton by service of a pair of gilt spurs.

The manor (extent given), together with certain tenements in Osberwik appertaining thereto, excepting a messuage, 14 tofts, 169a. land, 16a. meadow, and 20a. wood, held for life of the grant of Michael de Presfen, of the king in chief, as of the crown, by service of a quarter of a barony, with remainder to Robert son of Robert son of Robert de Clyfford, and the heirs of his body, to hold of the king and his heirs, by the services accustomed for ever; which said Robert son of Robert son of Robert died without heir of his body, the said Robert de Clyfford del Newstede then surviving; and with further remainders to John, brother of the said Robert son of Robert son of Robert, and the heirs of his body, which said John still survives; to Thomas, his brother and the heirs of his body; to Andrew, son of the said Robert de Clifford, and the heirs of his body; to Roger his brother and the heirs of his body; to John his brother and the heirs of his body; and to the right heirs of the said Robert de Clifford; by fine levied in the king’s court with the king s licence.
He held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick on the day of his death.
John, son of the said Robert son of Robert son of Robert, aged 18 years at the Purification last, is his next heir by the tail and fine aforesaid.

Suthwyk. A messuage and 100a. land similarly held of the said John de Mounbray by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee.
William de Percy, son of the said John and Elizabeth, aged two years, is his next heir.
