WILTS.	Inq. taken at Upavene on Monday after SS. Peter and Paul, 18 Edward III.
	Wodeborgh. A messuage, 43a. arable and 7a. meadow, held of the king in chief by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. He died on Saturday next after St. Mark, 18 Edward III. Richard his son, aged 30 years and more, is his next heir.

YORK.	Inq. taken at York on Thursday the feast of S. Mary Magdalen, 18 Edward III.
	Northgeveldale. A messuage and two bovates of land, held of the king in chief by fealty and by service of rendering 2s. 6d. to the king yearly at his exchequer, by the hands of the sheriff of the said county. A great part of the said land is waste and uncultivated and can never be sown. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Sunday next before the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary last. John his son, aged 24 years and more, is his next heir.

488.	CHRISTINA, LATE THE WIFE OF JOHN TORELL.

ESSEX.	Inq. 27 [or 17 (sic)] May, 18 Edward III.
	Thorrok. 80a. land, 14a. meadow, a pasture of salt marsh worth 33s. 4d. yearly or less on account of the costs of the walls of the Thames, 26s. 8d. assised rent, and 10s. yearly from three tenants, held in dower, of the inheritance of the said John sometime her husband, of the king in chief by serjeanty, viz. of being keeper of the king’s napery (naparius), and rendering 10s. yearly at the king’s exchequer, and 2s. called ‘wardpanis’ at the hundred of Berdestaple, now in the hand of the countess of Kent, at the feast of the Ascension. She died on Whitsunday, 23 May last. Thomas, son of John Torel, aged 12 years and more, is the next heir of the said John.

	Storminstre. 7a. land and 5s. 4d. yearly rent, and a fourth part of the hundred of Lusburgh, held for her life of the king in chief by service of a tenth part of a knight’s fee, by the grant of Richard de Acton, by fine levied in the king’s court, the king’s licence having been obtained; the reversion whereof belongs to the heir of the said Hugh by the aforesaid grant. She died on 16 January last. John, son of the said Hugh and Margery, aged 5 years and more, is her next heir.

	Middelhope. The hamlet (extent given) held for her life, of the inheritance of John, son and heir of Hugh Tyrel son of the said Joan, of the lady of Burnel, as of the manor of Corfton, by service of half a knight’s fee. She held no other lands &c. and died on the feast of SS. Philip and James last. John, son of the said Hugh son of the said Joan, aged 5 years at the feast of the Purification last, is her next heir.

A messuage, 60a. land, 5a. meadow, 2a. pasture, and 4s. 8d. yearly rent, held of Nicholas de Audeley by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee; 2a. land held of the said Nicholas by service of 8d. yearly; and a messuage, 17a. land, and 1/2a. meadow, held of the earl of Lancaster by service of a sixtieth part of a knight’s fee. La Rok hamlet. A curtilage, 60a. land, 1a. pasture, and 2s. yearly rent, held of John de Burleye by service of a rose yearly, and rendering yearly to the king 2s. 1d. by the hands of the sheriff as common fine; and a curtilage and 30a. land held of John de Sarnesfeld by service of half a mark yearly. Hongarston. 60s. yearly rent held of the said Nicholas de Audeley by service of a third part of a knight’s fee. All held for her life of the inheritance of John, son and heir of Hugh Tyrel. She died on Tuesday after St. Mark last. John, son of Hugh Tyrel, aged 5 years on Monday after the Purification last, is her next heir.

A messuage, 40a. land, 1a. 3 1/2r. meadow, and 4s. yearly rent, held of the king in chief, being enfeoffed thereof jointly with the said John, sometime her husband, by the king’s charter of licence, by petty serjeanty, paying 6s. yearly at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff. She held no other lands &c. and died on 15 February, 18 Edward III. Robert de Hale, her son, aged 44 years, is her next heir.

OXFORD.	Inq. taken at Oxford, 4 January, 18 Edward III.
	Stauntone Seynt Johan. Two parts of a messuage, and of a virgate of land and two cottages (extent given), held of the king in chief, together with the third part of the said virgate, which Emma late the wife of the said John now holds, by service of a one hundred and forty-fourth part of a knight’s fee. She held no other lands &c. and died on 19 December, 18 Edward III. Thomas Symond, brother of the said John le Carpenter and uncle of the said Maud, aged 40 years and more, is her next heir.

HEREFORD.	Inq. taken at Hereford on Wednesday after the Invention of the Holy Cross, 18 Edward III.
	Stanford. Half a virgate of land held of the king in chief by serjeanty, viz. summoning the lords of Webbeleye, Kyngeslone and Wygemore to the king’s army. He held nothing of any other lord, and died on 20 September last. John his son, aged 27 years and more, is his next heir.

494.	ROBERT ATTE REYE or ATTE RYE.
	Writ, 6 February, 18 Edward III.
SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. taken at Winchester on Thursday the morrow of St. Matthias, 18 Edward III.
	La Rye by Odyham. A messuage, 2a. meadow, and 120 1/2a. arable, whereof he was enfeoffed jointly with Denise his wife, then surviving held of the king, at fee farm, by service of 2s. yearly payable at the king’s exchequer by the hands of the sheriff. Pollyngge and Weston by Peteresfelde. 4a. meadow, 15s. rent and pasture for eight oxen and four cows, whereof he was enfeoffed jointly with the said Denise, now deceased, held of John de Stourtone by service of a rose yearly. The said Robert and Denise held all the above by fine levied in the king’s court three weeks from the day of St. Michael, 11 Edward II, for their lives, with reversion, in default of issue of their bodies, to the said John de Stourtone and his heirs, to hold of the chief lords of those fees by the said services for ever. He held no lands &c. in fee in the county. He died on Wednesday next after SS. Simon and Jude, 17 Edward III, without heir begotten of the said Denise. Juliana, the wife of William Talemach, knight, aged 22 years and more, is daughter and next heir of the said John de Stourtone, who is dead.

	Lauton. The hamlet (extent given) held for her life in dower, of the inheritance of the said Roger, by the assignment of Richard de Baskervyll, son and heir of Roger de Baskervyll, deceased, in allowance of her whole dower. The said hamlet is held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Monte Gomery, by service of giving to the king a barbed arrow whenever he shall come into those parts to hunt in the chace of Corvdon. She died on the feast of SS. Philip and James last. Walter, son and heir of Richard de Baskervyll son of Roger de Baskervyll, aged 27 years at the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist last, is the next heir in blood of the said Roger.

YORK.	Inq. taken at York on Friday the morrow of St. Hilary, 18 Edward III.
	Northgeveldale and Estgeveldale. Certain tenements, viz. a ruinous messuage and six bovates of land in Northgeveldale and a bovate and a third of land in Estgeveldale, held of the king in chief by service of a ninth part of a certain serjeanty, the whole of which is held of the king in chief by service of finding a crossbowman in the king’s castle of York for forty days at his own charges, if there shall be war in the said county, and by homage. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday next before the Nativity of the Blessed Mary last. Thomas his son, aged 40 years and more, is his next heir.

498.	RICHARD DE HELBESTON.

YORK.	Inq. taken at Hedon in Holdernesse on Thursday before St. Gregory the Pope, 18 Edward III.
	Conyngeston. A messuage, 3a. 3 1/2r. land, 1 1/2a. meadow, and pasture for two great oxen, held jointly with Agnes his wife, who still survives, of the gift and feoffment of John de Lascelles, to hold to them and their heirs or assigns for ever, of the king in chief, as of the honour of Aumale, by service of a one thousand, five hundred and thirty-sixth part of a knight’s fee as for a quarter of a bovate of land, and by service of doing suit at the king’s wapentake of Holdernesse every three weeks. He held no other lands &c. within the liberty of Holdernesse. He died on 6 July, 9 Edward III. John his son, aged 30 years and more, is his next heir.

499.	GILES, SON OF RICHARD DE PLAIZ.
	Writ of certiorari, on the petition of Richard, son of Richard de Plaiz, asserting that he is brother and next heir of the said Giles, son and heir of Richard de Plaiz, deceased, who held of the king in chief, which said Giles died whilst a minor and in the king’s wardship, and that he is of full age, and seeking livery of the lands &c. which are of his inheritance and are in the wardship of Gilbert Talebot by the king’s commission, 22 September, 18 Edward III.
SUSSEX.	Inq. taken at Lewes 27 (?) September, 18 Edward III.
	Yford. The manor, with its members of Wannigore, Warplesbourn and Worth, held of the earl of Warenne by service of half a knight’s fee, is in the king’s hand by the death of the said Richard and the minority of the said Giles. Gilbert Talbot was warned, but came not nor sent (anyone). The said Giles died on 16 July, 8 Edward III, a minor and in the king’s wardship. Richard, his brother, aged 21 years on the day of St. Matthew last, is his next heir.

YORK.	Inq. taken at Hedon, 20 February, 18 Edward III. (defaced).
	Bondbrustwyk in Holdernesse. A third part of a messuage and a moiety of a bovate of land, held in dower for her life, of the inheritance of Peter, son and heir of Peter Moys, by service of issuing summonses and attachments at the wapentake of Holdernesse. Esthalsham in Holdernesse. A toft and a moiety of a bovate of land, held of John de Waldeby by knight’s service, whereof ten bovates make a carucate of land, and eight carucates a knight’s fee. She died on the last day of January last. The said Peter son of Peter, aged 40 years and more, is next heir of the said Peter.

	[Bi]sshopthorp. A third part of fourteen tofts and of fifteen bovates of land, held in dower, of the inheritance of Robert, son of John Bustard son of the aforesaid Robert Bustard, of the king in chief, as a third part of a certain petty serjeanty; which third part is held of the king in chief by fealty, and by service of rendering to the king yearly at his exchequer, by the hands of the sheriff, 17s. 6 1/2d. and a third part of 1/2d. Bustard Thorp. A third part of a messuage and of a carucate of land, held in dower, of the said inheritance, of John de Clifton and Ralph de Leek by fealty and by service of 2s. 4d. yearly. Middelthorp. A third part of a toft and of four bovates of land, held in dower, of the said inheritance, of the abbot of Whiteby and his successors by fealty and by service of 6s. 8d. yearly. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on the day of St. Andrew last. Robert, son of John son of the said Robert Bustard, aged 30 years and more, is the next heir of the said Robert.

	Okes by Bromyord. A messuage, 50a. land, 2a. meadow, 1/2a. wood, and 30s. rent, held of the king in chief, by the courtesy of England, of the inheritance of Cecily sometime his wife, by service of conducting the king’s treasure twice in the year if necessary, at the king’s charges, from the castle of Hereford to London, taking 12d. daily. He died on 22 August. John de Holeford, son of the said Cecily, aged 40 years, is her next heir.

	He held no lands &c. on the day he died, for those which he held in his lifetime he gave to William de Crokhou, his father, for his life. He died on Friday before Palm Sunday, 18 Edward III. John his son, aged 14 years, is his next heir.

DORSET.	Inq. Friday after the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 18 Edward III (much defaced).
	Tarrentekaynes. The manor held jointly with [Margaret] his wife, who still survives, of the king in chief, of the grant of Geoffrey de Donechyrche by a fine levied in the king’s court, by service of a knight’s fee. Combekaynes. The manor held jointly as above, of the king in chief by service of half a knight’s fee, of the grant of the said Geoffrey by another fine levied in the king’s court. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 3 September last. John his son, aged 23 (?) years, is his next heir.

	Isleham. The manor (extent given) held of the earl of Arundel by fealty and by service of sending to the said earl a gammon of bacon on a lance and a pair of gilt spurs, price 40d., at a certain place in Isleham called Heryngesmere, if the said earl shall come there in person and there is war in England, and not otherwise. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on 11 March last. John de Orreby, her son, aged 25 years and more, is her next heir.

	Danseye. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Hagenet, by service of rendering 5s. for the ward of the castle of Dover every twenty weeks. Bradewelle. The manor (extent given) held of John Bardolf, knight, by service of half a knight’s fee; a tenement, called [Hokkeleye], viz. a capital messuage, 40a. land and 20a. pasture in the marsh, held of John le Cok by service of 9s. yearly; and a tenement called Pilton, viz. a sheepfold, 40a. land and 20a. marsh, held of the manor of Danseye by service of 3s. 506.	JOHN SON OF WILLIAM DE PUTTON.
	Writ of certiorari, on the petition of William, son of William de Putton, asserting that the said John, deceased, who held of the king in chief, died a minor and in the king’s wardship, and that he, the said William, is brother and heir of the said John, and of full age, and praying that the lands &c. of his inheritance, which are in the wardship of John de Scoteneve by the king’s commission, may be delivered to him. 10 October, 18 Edward III.
SOUTHAMPTON.	Inq. Sunday before SS. Simon and Jude, 18 Edward III.
	Burghton. John, son and heir of William de Putton, deceased, died whilst a minor and in the king’s wardship on the feast of St. Edmund the Bishop, 5 Edward III, and 32 1/2a. land are in the king’s hand by the death of William de Putton because of the minority of the said John. They are held of the king in chief by service of serjeanty, viz. keeping a moiety of the wood of ‘la Bokholte’ in the king’s forest of Claryndon. Bentlegh, Burghton and Estuderlegh. A messuage and a carucate of land (extent given) are likewise in the king’s hand because of the minority of William son of the said William. They are held of John de Seynt Manyfell by service of a rose yearly. William son of William de Putton, brother of the said John, aged 21 years on the feast of the Decollation of St. John the Baptist last, is his next heir.

	Billyngesleye. The hamlet (extent given) held for his life, by the grant of Henry de Mortuo Mari, the elder, and of Roger de Chilyngton, chaplain, with successive remainders to John son of Walter de Beysin, and Margaret his wife, and the heirs of their bodies, and to the right heirs of the said Walter for ever. The hamlet is held of Edmund de Cornubia by service of 5s. yearly. Borwardesleye. A messuage, lands and rent (extent given), held jointly with Alice his wife for their lives, of John de Eyton, by service of 40d. yearly, with remainder to John, son of Walter de Beysin, and Margaret his wife, and the heirs of their bodies for ever. He died on Monday after St. Martin last. John his son, aged 18 years at the feast of St. Peter ad Vincula last, is his next heir.
STAFFORD.	Inq. made at Stafford, 20 January, 18 Edward III.
	Assheleye. Two parts of the manor (extent given), together with the advowson of the church, held for his life of the grant of Henry de Mortuo Mari, the elder, and of Roger de Chillington, chaplain, to hold of the king and his heirs by the accustomed services, by the king’s licence, and by fine levied in the king’s court, with remainder to John son of Walter de Beysin, and Margaret his wife, and the heirs of their bodies. The said two parts, with the other third part, are held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. Eton. A water-mill, a fulling-mill and 40s. rent, held for his life, by the grant of the said Henry and Roger, with remainder to the said John and Margaret and the heirs of their bodies and further remainder to the right heirs of the said Walter, of William Chaumpioun by service of 5s. yearly. Longenor. 40s. yearly rent held for his life, by the grant of the said Henry and Roger with remainders as abovesaid, of the baron of Stafford by service of 3s. yearly. 	Sadelescoumbe. The manor (extent given), including 50a. pasture called Blakefolde, held jointly with Alesia his wife, who still survives, for their lives, of the prior of St. John of Jerusalem in England, by service of rendering a rose yearly to the said prior and his successors. The said prior holds of the earl of Warenne, as the jurors understand, by what service they know not; and, after the death of the said Thomas and Alesia, the said manor shall revert wholly to the prior and his successors, as appears more fully in the said prior’s charter of feoffment thereof shown. He held no other lands &c. in the bailiwick. He died on Friday the morrow of the Ascension last. John his son, age 8 years at the feast of St. Michael last, is his next heir.

A moiety of the manor (extent given) held jointly with Alesia his wife and the heirs of their bodies, of the king in chief, by the gift of William, late vicar of the church of Chatestan, and of Thomas, late parson of the church of Saxlingham, by the king’s licence; which moiety is held of the king in chief by service of 10s. blanch farm, payable yearly at the castle of Norwich. Holt. A moiety of the manor (extent given) held jointly in form aforesaid, as of the honour of Aumarle, by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee, of the gift of the said William and Thomas. Cleye, Blakeneye, Leringsete and Holt. 7l. 6s. 8d. yearly rent held jointly with Alesia his wife, as parcel of the moiety of the manor of Holt. Panneworthe. 	Merk, in Great Dunmawe. The manor (extent given) held, by the grant of John Gamelyn to the said Robert and Jacomina and the heirs of their bodies, by fine levied in the court of King Edward I, of the king in chief, as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of a knight’s fee. The reversion of the said manor pertains by right to Robert de Merk, son and next heir apparent of the same Robert and Jacomina, because one Ingelram, their first-born son, crossed into parts beyond the seas long before the death of the said Jacomina; whether he survives or not the jurors know not, but if he should survive, the reversion of the manor would of right belong to him.

BEDFORD.	Inq. taken at Bed[ford] on Monday after St. Luke, 18 Edward III.
	Hoclyve. A messuage and two carucates of land held of Robert de Ufford and Elizabeth his wife, of the right of the said Elizabeth, of the barony of Bedford by homage, fealty, and scutage when it runs, and suit at the court of the said Robert and Elizabeth of (the barony of?) Bedford at Bedford every three weeks. The said John demised the said tenements to one John de Chetwode, knight, for the life of the said John de Chetwode, rendering to the said John Ammary and his heirs nine marks yearly. A messuage, two carucates of land, 10a. meadow, 30a. wood and 50s. rent, held jointly with Margaret his wife, who still survives, of the son and heir of Sir John de Clynton of Makestok by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee and rendering 100s. yearly to the said heir, or, at present, to his guardian because the said heir is a minor and in the king’s wardship, of the grant of Henry de Cerne, clerk, and by fine levied in the king’s court. Weseford, Folke, Wyghtoneton, Westmynton and Russhton. Five messuages and three carucates of land, held jointly with the said Margaret, of John le Plombere and the bishop of Salisbury by divers services, of the grant of Thomas Fremantel and John Brunyng, by fine levied in the king’s court. The said tenements are charged in 60s. yearly to William Percy. Bokernes Weston.
