	Writ, 3 April, 25 Edward III.
LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Frisby, Friday after St. Ambrose, 25 Edward III.
	Frisby. He was seised, by inheritance, of three tofts and twelve bovates of land, which on the feast of the Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 10 Edward III, he gave to Simon de Pateshull his son for life. The said tofts and land are held of Robert Folyot of Frisby by foreign service and the said Robert holds them of Henry earl of Lancaster by homage and fealty. He died on Wednesday after the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr last. William de Pateshull, his son, aged thirty years and more, is his heir.

	Writ after the death of the said Ralph, who died a minor in the king’s wardship, 13 February, 25 Edward III.
BUCKINGHAM.	Inq. taken at Bukyngham, Sunday after St. Valentine, 25 Edward III.
	Wolverton. The manor (extent given), held of the king in chief by service of two knights’ fees, came into the king’s hand by the minority of the deceased. A third part is held in dower by Joan, late the wife of John, father of the deceased, now wife of John Chastilon, and two parts are in the king’s hand. Nothing is held of others. He died a minor in the king’s wardship on Thursday before St. Valentine last. His sisters, Margery aged 19 years, married to John le Hunte of Fennystratford, and Elizabeth aged 17 years and more, are his heirs.

NORTHAMPTON.	Extent, 19 February, 25 Edward III.
	Maidewell. A knight’s fee held by the heirs of Alan de Maidewell of the inheritance of the said Ralph. Thenford. Half a knight’s fee held by the heir of Eve de Gray of the same inheritance and assigned in dower to Joan, late the wife of John de Wolverton. The deceased held no advowsons of churches in the county.

YORK; LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS.	Inq. taken at Hedon, Thursday, 1 December, 25 Edward III.
	Bondbrustwyk. A third part of a messuage and of two bovates of land and 1/2a. land held of the king in chief, as of the honour of Aumale, by service of making the summonses and attachments of the king’s court of Barow, co. Lincoln; together with the reversion of two parts of the said messuage and two bovates of land, less the said half acre, which Alice daughter of John de Helpeston, married to Thomas de Thorp, holds for her life, of the demise of the said William, by service of a clove yearly. He died on 15 August, 23 Edward III. John his son, aged five years, is his heir.

	White Rothyngg. A tenement called ‘Maskelesbury,’ held of the king in chief by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee. He died about Christmas, 22 Edward III. Thomas his son, aged 23 years on the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr last, is his heir.

YORK; LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS.	Inq. taken at Hedon, Wednesday, 6 July, 25 Edward III.
	Tunstall. A messuage and a moiety of a bovate of land held in demesne and 3 1/2 bovates of land held in service of the king in chief, as of the honour of Aumale, which is in the king’s hand, by service of a ninety-fourth part of a knight’s fee, and doing suit at the king’s wapentake of Holdernesse every three weeks and rendering to the ward of the castle of Skipse 2d. yearly. Divers tenants hold the aforesaid 3 1/2 bovates of land by foreign service. She died on 13 August, 23 Edward III. John son of Simon de Crokhowe and of the said Alice, aged 22 years and more, is her heir.

YORK.	Inq. taken at Wighton, Thursday after St. Clement, 25 Edward III.
	Wighton. A messuage and an acre of meadow held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by service of a hundredth part of a knight’s fee and by homage. She held no other lands &c. in the county. She died on 12 October, 23 Edward III. William, son of her late brother Robert de Erghes, aged 30 years and more, is her heir.

	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said Alice, 6 October, 25 Edward III.
YORK; LIBERTY OF HOLDERNESS.	Inq. taken at Hedon, Thursday, 1 December, 25 Edward III.
	Conynston or Conyngston. A messuage and 3a. 3r. land held in demesne and five bovates of land held in service, of the king in chief, as of the honour of Aumale, by service of a sixtieth part of a knight’s fee and doing suit at the king’s wapentake of Holderness every three weeks and rendering to the ward of the castle of Skipse yearly 6 3/4d. and for sheriff’s aid 3 1/4d. Divers free tenants hold the said five bovates by foreign service and by rendering 1 1/2d. yearly. She died on 24 July, 23 Edward III. Alice daughter of John de Helpeston, her kinswoman, married to Thomas de Thorp, aged 18 years, is her heir.

BEDFORD.	Inq. taken at Bedeford, Thursday the feast of the Translation of St. Thomas the Martyr, 25 Edward III.
	Risle. A messuage, 300a. land lying unoccupied and uncultivated, 16a. wood and 6a. meadow held of the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England by knight’s service; a dovecot and 4a. meadow held of William de Pateshull by service of 12d. yearly and suit at his court of Bletnessho every three weeks; 1 1/2a. wood held of John Trayly, service not known. He held no more lands &c. in the county. He died on Monday the feast of SS. Peter and Paul, 23 Edward III. Athelina, daughter of Geoffrey Hervy, son of the deceased, aged five years and more, is his heir.

DORSET.	Inq. taken at Wymbournemynstre, Thursday after the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 25 Edward III.
	Swanewych. A messuage and 28a. land held of the king in chief by service of a twentieth part of a knight’s fee. He died on 10 June last. His heir is Edith his daughter, aged 24 years and more, long since married to William de Wyke, but they have no issue.

623.	ALEXANDER TOTHE of Middelton, an idiot.
	Writ, 18 October, 25 Edward III.
YORK.	Inq. taken at York, Tuesday after St. Martin, 25 Edward III.
	Middelton. A messuage, two tofts and 5 1/2 bovates of land were taken into, and are in, the king’s hand by reason of the said Alexander’s idiocy. The messuage is held of Richard Ward by service of 3s. yearly and the two tofts and 5 1/2 bovates of land are held of the provost of Beverley by service of 8s. yearly and doing suit at the provost’s court at Beverley every three weeks. The custody of the said tenements the king granted to William del Dale for life by reason of the aforesaid idiocy. He died on 10 June last. John Tothe, his brother, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

	Newenton Sarmevill. A messuage, a carucate of land and 20s. rent held of the king in chief by service of rendering 6s. 8d. yearly by the hands of the sheriff. Leghe. A messuage and a carucate of land held of Richard de Chyselden, lord of Penne, by service of 1d. yearly. Elleneston. 30a. land held of the prior of Montacute (de Monte Acuto) by service of 6s. yearly. He died on 4 January last. William Musket his brother, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

She died on 10 October last. William her son, aged 30 years and more, is her heir.

	Keleby. A messuage, 9a. land, 26s. 8d. rent held of the king in chief by homage and fealty only. Lymbergh. A messuage and 16a. land held of Tecia, late the wife of John de Beaumes, by fealty only. He died on Monday after St. Laurence, 23 Edward III. Alice his sister, aged 20 years, is his heir.

628.	ALAN DE TWYTHAM.

KENT.	Inq. taken at Wengeham, Wednesday the feast of St. Margaret, 25 Edward III.
	Twytham. The manor (extent given) held of the king in chief, as of the manor of Wengeham, parcel of the temporalities of the archbishopric of Canterbury, which is in the king’s hand through the death of Sir John de Offord, late archbishop, by homage, fealty and service of 60s. and by suit at the archbishop’s great court at the palace of Canterbury every three weeks. The said Alan granted the manor, on 4 October before his death, to Robert Cheyne, knight, and Robert Borbache, clerk, for the term of two years, to pay his debts. He died on 7 October, 23 Edward III. Alan, son of Theobald de Twytham, son of the deceased, aged five years, is his heir.

	Wyverton. A messuage, 18a, arable, 6a. meadow and 8s. rent held of the king in chief as of the honour of Peverel by knight’s service; two cottages and two marks yearly rent held of Hugh de Meinille, of the fee of Colston Basset, by knight’s service. He died on Friday before St. John the Baptist, 23 Edward III. Henry, son of the deceased’s brother Robert de Wyverton of Cotegrave, aged 17 years, is his heir.

KENT.	Inq. taken at Maydestane, Tuesday the morrow of the Assumption, 25 Edward III.
	Westbarmelyng. Two parts of the manor, except 10a. land in Billyngham and Longeham, held of the king in chief by service of two parts of a knight’s fee. To the said manor belongs the advowson of the church of Westbarmelyng. Westfarleghe. Five acres of land of the manor, held of the prior of Christ Church, Canterbury, by fealty, suit of the court of the said manor every three weeks and rendering 5s. yearly. He died on Thursday the feast of St. Dunstan, 25 Edward III. Ralph de Frenyngham, knight, of full age, is his heir.

	Kirkeby and Elyngham. 24a. land held in service, to him and his heirs, of the abbot of St. Edmund’s, in socage by service of 2d. yearly. Gillyngham. 30a. land similarly held in service, of Edward de Monte Acuto and Alice his wife, as of the right of the said Alice, by fealty only. He died on Sunday before St. Peter’s Chains last. Ralph his son, aged seven years and more, is his heir.

MIDDLESEX.	Inq. taken at Iseldon, 4 May, 25 Edward III.
	London. A messuage in the parish of St. Clement Danes, without the bar of the New Temple; which messuage, together with a forge, at one time erected in the king’s highway before the door of the said messuage, and now long since demolished (prostrata), is held of the king in chief by service of six horse-shoes yearly at the Exchequer. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 2 March, 25 Edward III. Emma, daughter of Alice Sheperherde of Netherton one sister of the deceased, married to Richard Hyghoun of Wyke by Preshore, aged 15 years and more, and Emma daughter of Edith Heynes of Netherton the other sister of the said William, aged three years and more, are his kinswomen and heirs.

WORCESTER.	Inq. taken at Kedurmustre, Thursday after the Invention of the Holy Cross, 25 Edward III.
	Kedurmustre. A messuage, 20a. arable, 4a. meadow, 1/2a. pasture and 13s. 4d. rent held of Robert Martyn by service of a pair of gloves, price 2d. He died on 1 April, 23 Edward III. Hugh de Bremsepe, son of one sister of the said Wolstan, aged 40 years and more, is one heir, and Alice de Baggesovere, daughter of his other sister, was the other heir of the said Wolstan; she held of the king in chief in co. Salop and died on 16 May, 23 Edward III, and after her death Hugh de Baggesovere, her son, aged 18 years, is her heir with respect to a moiety of the said Wolstan’s land.

LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Carleton in Moreland, 20 August, 25 Edward III.
	Carleton in Moreland. A messuage, three carucates of land and 20s. rent held for life of the gift of Hugh le Despenser, with remainder to John le Despenser, brother of the said Hugh, for life, with reversion to the said Hugh, his heirs and assigns. The said tenements are held of the king, as of the honour of Aumale, by fealty only. He died on 3 July, 25 Edward III. Heir not known.

SURREY.	Inq. taken at Suthwerk, 14 June, 25 Edward III.
	Suthwerk. A messuage and two watermills held jointly with Avice his wife, who survives, of the gift of Walter de Mourden, citizen of London, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to the right heirs of the said John. The said tenements are held of the abbess of Mallyngg by service of rendering 4d. yearly. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 10 January, 23 Edward III, as the jury understand. John Rouce, his uncle, aged 40 years and more, is his heir.

	Writ to enquire as to the lands and heir of the said John, who held of the heir of Hawise de Ferers, a minor in the king’s wardship, 26 October, 25 Edward III.
GLOUCESTER.	Inq. taken at Gloucester, Monday after the Epiphany, 25 Edward III.
	Botynton. A messuage and two cottages, 36a. land and 4a. meadow held for life of the above-named heir by the demise of John de Bures and Hawise his wife, the reversion whereof belongs to John de Ferrariis, kinsman and heir of the aforesaid Hawise, a minor in the king’s wardship, aged 19 years at the feast of St. Laurence last. He died on the morrow of St. Thomas the Apostle, 24 Edward III.

637.	JOHN, SON OF JOHN DE HOTHUM of Bondeby.
	Writ, 6 October, 25 Edward III.
ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Fyffhyde, Wednesday the feast of All Souls, 25 Edward III.
	Fyffhyde. The manor, held jointly with Juetta his wife, who survives, of the gift of John de Hothum, knight, father of the said John, to them and the heirs of their bodies, with remainder to Henry son of Geoffrey le Scrop and his heirs. The said manor is held of the king in chief by service of a knight’s fee. He died on 27 September last. Katherine de Hothum and Alice de Hothum, his sisters, are his heirs, ages not known.

LINCOLN.	Inq. taken at Bondeby, Friday before St. Thomas the Apostle, 25 Edward III.
	Bondeby. The manor, held jointly as above, of the gift of the said John’s father, with remainder to the right heirs of the donor. The said manor is held of the king in chief by service of grand serjeanty, viz. carrying a white rod before the king on Christmas Day, if the king be within the county of Lincoln. Date of death as above. His sisters, Katherine aged 19 years and Alice aged 16 years, are his heirs.

LINCOLN.	Inq. Tuesday after the Close of Easter, 26 Edward III.
	Bondeby. The manor, granted to him by John his father, to hold for the latter’s life, with remainder after his death to the said John the son and Juetta his wife and the heirs of their bodies, and, failing such heirs, to the right heirs of John de Hothum the father. The said manor is held of the king in chief by grand serjeanty, as above. Date of death and heir as last above.

ESSEX.	Inq. taken at Bradewell, Sunday the feast of St. Edmund the King, 25 Edward III.
	Bradewell. The manor, held of John Boun, knight, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee; 9a. land held of the abbot of Westminster by service of 3s. yearly. Pepeners. 60a. land held of John Filz Rauf, knight, and of the countess of Ormond, service not known. Elmedon. The manor, which he demised long before his death to John Bourghcher, clerk, for his life, held of the king, as of the honour of Boulogne, by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. He died on Wednesday after St. Denis last. John his son, aged 24 years and more, is his heir.

	Gissinge. Five messuages held of William de Clyntone, earl of Huntingdon, as of the manor of Wynferyng, by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. He died on Wednesday after St. Faith last. John de Dagworth, knight, his son, aged 26 years and more, is his heir.
SUFFOLK.	Inq. taken at Brokford, 10 December, 25 Edward III.
	Dagworth. The manor (extent given), including a leet on the eve of Trinity, held of the king in chief by service of a fourth part of a knight’s fee. Thrandeston. A messuage, 20a. land and 2a. pasture held of the abbot of St. Edmund’s by service of an eighth part of a knight’s fee. Date of death and heir as last above.

639.	WALTER DE HESELARTON or DE HESLARTON.
	Writ to William de Plumpton, escheator in co. York, 20 July, 25 Edward III.
YORK.	Inq. taken at Killum, Wednesday the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, 25 Edward III.
	Cathwayt, Scorby, Sutton. The said Walter and Eustachia his wife held the manors of Cathwayt, Scorby and Sutton and a moiety of a knight’s fee in Sutton and Cathwayt, as of her right and inheritance, and gave them to John de Heslarton, parson of the church of Hatfeld, who gave them to the said Walter and Eustachia and the heirs of the said Walter, by fine levied in the king’s court in 9 Edward III. Eustachia survives and still holds the premises by virtue of this fine. They are held of Henry de Percy by knight’s service. Kernetby. The manor, held in fee of the same Henry de Percy by knight’s service. He held no other lands &c. in the county in his demesne as of fee; but he held, by reason of coverture, of the right and inheritance of the aforesaid Eustachia, daughter and heir of Peter de Percy, the manor of Ilkeley of the said Henry de Percy by knight’s service, and the manor of Wharrom Percy of the king in chief, as of the crown, by service of a knight’s fee. Eustachia still holds both. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on Wednesday after the Nativity of the Blessed Mary, 23 Edward III. Walter de Heslarton, son of the said Walter and Eustachia, aged 18 years on Monday the feast of the Assumption last, is his heir.
	Writ to Peter de Nuttle, escheator in co. York. If he by inquisition find that the deceased on the day of his death held any lands &c. of the king in chief, he is to cause the body of the said Walter’s heir, if he be under age, and was not married before the said Walter’s death, to be seized and kept until further order, 16 May, 26 Edward III.
YORK.	Inq. taken at York, Friday the feast of SS. Peter and Paul, 26 Edward III.
	He held no lands in demesne as of fee of the king or of others, but he held as follows:— Wharrom Percy. The manor held as in above inquisition by knight’s service. Kernetby and Scorby. He was sometime seised of the manors, together with certain lands &c. in Ilkelay and Staynfordbrig, which he gave in 21 Edward III to John de Hothum of Scourburgh, knight, the younger, and Martin de Skirne, John de Allerthorp and John de Scardeburgh, chaplains, who were by the said gift seised thereof on the day of the said Walter’s death and are still, as the jurors understand. The premises are held of Sir Henry de Percy, knight, by knight’s service. The said Walter died in the pestilence on 9 September, 23 Edward III. Walter de Heselarton, his son, aged 17 years and more, not married in his father’s lifetime, is his heir.

	The said Walter never acquired, at Wharrom Percy or elsewhere in the county, any lands &c. held of the king in chief, but he held the manor of Wharrom Percy of the right and inheritance of Eustachia his wife, who survives, by reason of coverture; the said manor is held of the king in chief, as of the crown, and the said Eustachia now holds it. The said Walter was sometime seised of the manors of Kernetby and Scorby, together with lands &c. in Ilkelay and Staynfordbrigg, and before his death he gave them to the above-named John, Martin, John and John as above. About fifteen days after the said gift he entered upon the said manors, lands &c. and held them for his life, so that the said John, Martin, John and John received no profit therefrom through the feoffment. Henry de Percy the father, immediately after the said Walter’s death, seized into his hand, as chief lord, the manor of Kernetby, together with the body of Walter the son and heir, and had the custody and wardship all his life.

	La Hale. A messuage and a carucate of land held of Robert de Godyton by knight’s service. He died on 4 April, 23 Edward III. Robert his son, aged two years and more, is his heir.
	Commission of plenius certiorari to Theobald de Gorges, William de Ryngebourn and John de Kyngesdon on the suit of Adam Brabasoun and Margery his wife, sister and heir of Robert de Godyton, who claimed that the custody of the messuage and land aforesaid ought to belong to them by reason of the minority of the deceased’s heir, and prayed the king to remove his hand therefrom. The king directed the sheriff of Southampton to warn Richard le Kerver of Winchester, who holds the said custody by the king’s commission, to be before the king in chancery on the quinzaine of Easter last with the letters patent touching the said custody if any, to show cause why the said letters should not be revoked and the king’s hand removed from the said messuage and land. On which day the said Richard and Adam came in person and the said Margery by John de Codyngton the younger, her attorney; and Richard le Kerver said that the manor of Hale was formerly half a knight’s fee and that William de Godyton held the whole of it of the manor of Gatecomb, which is held of the king in chief, by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee. After the said William’s death the said manor of Hale was equally divided between two heirs. Richard atte Hale on the day of his death held by knight’s service the aforesaid messuage and land as a moiety of the said manor of Hale of the heir of John de Gatecombe, a minor in the king’s wardship, as of the manor of Gatecomb, so that the wardship of the heir of Richard atte Hale and the custody of the messuage and land aforesaid ought to belong to the king. The said Adam and Margery say that Richard atte Hale and his ancestors, tenants of the said messuage and land, held the same immediately of William de Godyton and other ancestors of the said Margery, who held them in service of the said manor of Gatecomb time out of mind by knight’s service; denying (absque eo quod) that the said William held the whole of the manor of Hale in demesne or that a partition or division was afterwards made thereof among the heirs, as has been alleged by Richard le Kerver. The commissioners are to enquire into the foregoing, in presence of the feodaries of the island and of the keeper of the king’s lands &c. there, or of his attorney, and by distraint, amercements &c. to compel the attendance of those whom they see fit to summon on a fixed day to Hale, and, having heard all parties, to send the inquisition into the chancery before the quinzaine of Holy Trinity next; 27 April, 26 Edward III.
SOUTHAMPTON; ISLE OF WIGHT.	Inq. taken at La Hale before the aforesaid commissioners, Thursday, 31 May, 26 Edward III.
	La Hale. The manor was lately half a knight’s fee and William de Godyton never held the whole of it of the manor of Gatecombe in demesne, but he held a moiety of the said manor of Hale in demesne and the other half in service of the said manor of Gatecombe by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee. The said manor of Hale, after the said William’s death, was not divided between two heirs, as alleged by Richard le Kervere. Richard atte Hale did not hold the aforesaid messuage and land of the heir of John de Gatecombe, a minor, but of Robert de Godyton, by service of a quarter of a knight’s fee, as of a mesne between himself and the lord of Gatecombe. The jurors being asked, on behalf of the king, whether the said manor of la Hale had at any time of old been entire and afterwards divided between two sisters, heirs thereof, say that at present they know not.
	Commission to Theobald de Gorges, Henry de Greystok and John de Kyngesdon to inquire whether the manors called la Northale and Southale in the Isle of Wight were at any time one whole manor or not; and, if so, when, and if that manor was afterwards divided to enquire as to the partition &c.; 24 April, 27 Edward III. SOUTHAMPTON; ISLE OF WIGHT.	Inq. taken at Northale before Henry de Greystok and John de Kyngesdon, Monday in Whitsun week, 27 Edward III.
	The manors called la Northale and Southale in the Isle of Wight were one whole manor, called Hale, in the time of King Henry III, and one William atte Hale then held it of the lord of the manor of Gatecombe by service of a moiety of a knight’s fee and by doing suit at his court of Gatecombe. After his death the said manor of Hale was partitioned between Joan and Annora, daughters and heirs of the said William, so that the manor now called Southale was allotted to Joan and the other manor now called Northale to Annora in the time of the said King Henry. From Joan the right of her pourparty descended to William de Godynton, her son and heir, and from him to Robert his son and heir, and from him to Robert his son and heir, from whom it descended to Margery his sister and heir, whom Adam Brabason married, and he now holds the said manor of Southale. From Annora the right of her pourparty descended to John Michel, her son and heir, and from him to Henry atte Hale, his son and heir, and from him to Richard atte Hale, his son and heir, and from him to his son and heir Robert, who is a minor three years of age. So the said Adam and Margery now hold the manor of Southale, as of the right of the said Margery, and the said manor of Northale by pretext of a writ of the king to the escheator of the island to deliver seisin thereof to them.
	Writ of scire facias to the sheriff of Southampton to warn the aforesaid Adam and Margery to be in the king’s chancery on the quinzaine of Holy Trinity next, wherever it may then be, to show cause why the said manor of Northale should not be taken into the king’s hand by way of custody and why they should not account to the king for the issues received since the death of Richard atte Hale, as it appears from the last two inquisitions that Northale and Southale are held by knight’s service of the manor of Gatcombe, which is in the king’s hand; 18 May, 27 Edward III.
	Endorsed by the sheriff that he had returned the writ to John de Kyngesdon, bailiff of the liberty of the Isle of Wight, who answered that he warned the said Adam and Margery as above by Richard Tyrel and Henry Wyneman. Endorsed in another hand: The said sheriff, on account of his insufficient return, was fined 10s. and another writ of scire facias issued, returnable on the octave of St. John the Baptist.

	Endorsed by the sheriff that he had returned the writ to the above-named bailiff, who had warned the said Adam and Margery accordingly. Endorsed in another hand: On which day the whole matter was sent before the king, as appears in the annexed record. Record of plea. On which day the said Adam and Margery come and say that Richard atte Hale, father of the minor Robert, and his ancestors held the tenements called the manor of Northale of Robert de Godyton, brother of Margery, whose heir Margery is, and their ancestors as of their manor of Suthale, by homage &c., and the said Robert and his ancestors held Northale of John de Gatecombe, whose son and heir is now a minor in the king’s wardship, by homage, as a mesne (medius) between the lords of the manor of Gatecombe and the tenants of Northale, denying that the manors called Northale and Suthale were sometime held as a whole in demesne &c. as above. Henry de Greystok, for the king, says that the manors of Northale and Suthale were one whole manor and in the possession of one and the same person, who then held it of the lord of the manor of Gatecombe by knight’s service and afterwards it was partitioned between two co-heirs, so that the manor of Northale was allotted to one and the manor of Suthale to the other. Both parties put themselves upon the country, and thereupon a day was given to the said Adam and Margery before the king on the morrow of St. Martin, wherever the king might then be. 	Hoton Colswayn. He was at one time seised of a messuage, a garden, nine tofts, 14 bovates and 60a. land, 7a. meadow and 30s. rent, which he gave to Adam de Appelton, chaplain, who gave them to the said Thomas for life, with remainder to Thomas son of Thomas son of the said Thomas, Agnes his wife and the heirs of their bodies, and, failing such heirs, to the right heirs of Thomas de Boulton, the deceased, by the king’s charter of licence dated 20 April, 18 Edward III. All the premises are held of the king in chief, as of the crown, by homage and by service of a sixth part of a knight’s fee. He held no other lands &c. in the county. He died on 5 April last.
