Tuesday, August 6. Present:—Earl of Halifax, Mr. Grenville, Mr. Oswald.

Plantations General.

Read the following letters and Orders, viz.:—
Georgia.
Order of Council, dated the 6th instant, approving a representation of this Board recommending John Reynolds, Esquire, to be Governor of Georgia, and directing this Board to prepare the draught of a Commission and instructions for him.
Order of Council, dated the 6th of August, 1754, approving a representation of this Board proposing William Clifton, Esquire, to be Attorney General of his Majesty's province of Georgia.
Order of Council, dated the 6th of August, 1754, approving a representation of this Board proposing James Habersham, Esquire, to be Secretary and Register of the Records in his Majesty's province of Georgia.
Letter from Sir Thomas Robinson to the Board acquainting them that his Majesty has approved their recommendation of Alexander Kellet, Esquire, to be Provost Marshall, and William Russell, Esquire, Naval Officer, and directing them to prepare instruments accordingly.
Nova Scotia.
Read an Order of Council, dated the 6th of August, 1754, approving a representation of this Board proposing Jonathan Belcher, Esquire, to be appointed of his Majesty's Council in the province of Nova Scotia.
St. Christopher's.
Letter from Sir Thomas Robinson, dated 27th July, 1754, directing this Board to prepare a warrant containing his Majesty's leave of absence to the Rev. Mr. Andrew Perrot, of the Council of St. Christopher's.
Order of Council, dated the 6th instant, approving a representation of this Board proposing James Losack, Esquire, to supply a vacancy in the Council of St. Christopher's by the resignation of Richard Rowland, Esquire, and directing this Board to prepare a warrant accordingly.
Nevis.
Order of Council, dated the 6th instant, approving a representation of this Board proposing William Mills, Esquire, to supply a vacancy in the Council of Nevis by the death of William Jones, Esquire, and directing this Board to prepare a warrant accordingly.
Bermuda.
Order of Council, dated the 6th of August, 1754, approving Samuel Trott, Esquire, to be of the Council of Bermuda in the room of Charles Dunbar, Esquire, and directing this Board to prepare a warrant accordingly.
Nova Scotia.
Order of Council, dated the 6th instant, approving a representation of this Board proposing Charles Lawrence, Esquire, to be Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, and directing this Board to cause a Commission to be prepared for that purpose, and lay the same before his Majesty.
Georgia.
Order of Council, dated the 6th inst., directing this Board to cause a warrant to be prepared for his Majesty's signature to authorize John Reynolds, Esquire, Governor of Georgia, to use a new Seal lately engraved for that province, in sealing all patents, grants of lands, etc., and to lay the said warrant before his Majesty.
Virginia.
Order of the Lords of the Committee of Council for Plantation Affairs, dated the 18th of July, 1754, directing this Board to prepare the draught of an additional instruction to the Governor of Virginia in relation to a clause in an Act passed in that colony in May, 1749, declaring the law concerning executions, and for the relief of insolvent debtors.
Order of the Lords of the Committee of Council for Plantation Affairs, dated the 18th of July, 1754, approving a report of this Board relative to settlements to be made to the westward of the ridge of mountains without paying quit rents for ten years, and directing this Board to prepare an additional instruction accordingly.

Representation to his Majesty with a warrant appointing Jonathan Belcher. junior. Esquire. one of the Council of Nova Scotia.

Letter to Sir Thomas Robinson with a warrant containing his Majesty's leave of absence to the Rev. Mr. Andrew Perrot for the space of twelve months from his seat in the Council of St. Christopher's.
Representation to his Majesty with a warrant appointing James Losack. Esquire, one of the Council in St. Christopher's in the room of Richard Rowland. Esquire.
Nevis.
Representation to his Majesty with a warrant appointing William Mills. Esquire. one of the Council of Nevis, in the room of William Jones. Esquire, deceased.
Bermuda.
Representation to his Majesty with a warrant appointing Samuel Trott. Esquire, one of the Council of Bermuda, in the room of Charles Dunbar, Esquire.
Nova Scotia.
Representation to his Majesty with a warrant appointing Charles Lawrence, Esquire. Lieutenant Governor of the province of Nova Scotia.

Representation to his Majesty with a warrant authorizing John Reynolds, Esquire, Governor of Georgia, to use a new Seal lately engraved for that province.
Virginia.
Report to the Lords of the Committee of Council with an additional instruction to the Governor of Virginia in relation to a clause in an Act passed in that colony in May. 1749, declaring the law concerning executions and for the relief of insolvent debtors.
Report to the Lords of the Committee of Council with an additional instruction, relative to settlements to be made to the westward of the ridge of mountains without paying quit rents for ten years, etc.

Georgia.

Their lordships agreed that it would be for his Majesty's service that the following annual salaries should be allowed to the Governor and other officers established by his Majesty in Georgia and that the same should be paid to them by the agent out of any money in his hands appropriated to that service, viz.:—

Plantations General.

Their lordships took into consideration the letter from Sir Thomas Robinson, mentioned in the minutes of the 21st of June, signifying his Majesty's commands that a plan of concert for the defence of the colonies in North America should be prepared and ordered the draught of such a plan to be laid before them as soon as possible.

Thursday, August 8. Present:—Earl of Halifax, Mr. Grenville, Mr. Oswald.

Plantations General.

The draught of a plan of concert to be entered into by the colonies for their mutual defence having been prepared was laid before the Board, agreed to and ordered to be transcribed, and the draught of a representation to his Majesty thereupon and of a letter to Sir Thomas Robinson inclosing them were ordered to be prepared.

Friday, August 9. Present:—Earl of Halifax, Mr. Grenville, Mr. Oswald.

Plantations General.

The draught of a representation to his Majesty with a plan of concert to be entered into by the colonies for their mutual and common defence and also the draught of a letter to Sir Thomas Robinson inclosing them having been prepared, were agreed to, transcribed and signed.

Jamaica.

Order of Council, dated the 21st June, 1754, approving a representation of this Board proposing that a fine of £20 imposed by the Grand Court on Terence Williamson Kennedy, for sending a challenge to one Hogg, be remitted.

Read the following letters and papers from Mr. Knowles, Governor of Jamaica:—
Letter from Mr. Knowles to the Board, dated the 9th of April, 1754, inclosing naval office lists of shipping from Christmas, 1753, to Lady Day, 1754.
Letter from Mr. Knowles to the Board, dated the 7th of May, 1754, inclosing several papers with an account of the situation of affairs in that Island, viz.:—

Letter from Mr. Knowles to the Board, dated 7th May, 1754, acquainting their lordships that Mr. Cheif Justice Fuller has considerably reduced the fees of the Deputy Clerk of the Grant Courts and desiring directions thereupon and inclosing:—
