Mr. Atwood attending with Mr. Graham, his counsel, they were called in, and Mr. Graham was heard in what he had to offer in support of Mr. Atwood's conduct in the cases of McIntosh and McKenzie.

Bahamas, Turks'Island.

Their lordships took into further consideration the papers relative to Mr. Symmer's conduct and proposals in respect to Turks' Island, and a representation to his Majesty thereupon was signed; as was also a letter to the Earl of Hillsborough inclosing it, and desiring him to lay it before his Majesty.

Their lordships took into consideration the papers relative to the case of the Attorney General of New York, and a representation to his Majesty thereupon was agreed to and ordered to be transcribed; as were also representations to his Majesty on the case of the petitioners for a grant of mines circumjacent to Lake Superior, and on the case of Mr. Atwood, Chief Judge of Dominica.

Their lordships took into consideration the Acts and proceedings of the Legislature of New York which have passed since the promulgation of the Act of Parliament of the 7th year of his Majesty's reign for restraining and prohibiting the Governor, Council and House of Representatives of the province of New York, untill provision shall have been made for furnishing the King's troops with all the necessaries required by law, from passing or assenting to any Act of Assembly, vote or resolution for any other purposes; and it was ordered, that the draught of a representation to his Majesty thereupon should be prepared to be laid before the Board tomorrow morning.

Copy of a memorial of the master of a vessel called the Margaret or Peggy, to the Board, complaining of the conduct of the British Vice Consul in the port of Gijon in Spain.
A protest.
Authentick translation thereof.

Ordered, that copies of the said memorial and papers, authenticating the allegations thereof, be sent to the Earl of Shelburne, and a letter inclosing the same was prepared, agreed to and signed.

Letter from Montfort Browne, Esquire, Lieutenant Governor of West Florida, to the Board, dated February 1st, 1768, relative to the present state of that province.
Letter from Lieutenant Governor Browne to the Board, dated February 1st, 1768, relative to his intention of making use of the King's licence to return to England in case of sickness.
Letter from Lieutenant Governor Browne to the Board, dated February 1st, 1768, relating to his having appointed Mr. Matthew McHenry to be pastor for the district of Pensacola, in the room of Dr. Wilkinson, deceased.
Letter from Lieutenant Governor Browne to the Board, dated February 1st, 1768, relative to the grant made in 1764 to him and his brother of twenty thousand acres of land in West Florida.

Ordered, that such of the letters received from Lieutenant Governor Browne, as are not duplicates of letters sent to the Secretary of State, be transcribed and transmitted to the Secretary to the Earl of Hillsborough, for his Lordship's use.

Grenada, Dominica.

Mr. Campbell, one of the parties concerned in the proceedings of Mr. Atwood, Assistant Judge in Dominica, attended and moved their lordships for a sight of their report upon the said Mr. Atwood's case, which their lordships did not think fit to allow of.

East Florida.

Mr. Morris attended, praying their lordships' report in his favour for ten thousand acres of land in East Florida, agreable to a petition formerly preferred by him for that purpose. But he not having any one present to vouch for his ability to carry such a settlement into execution, their lordships informed him, that it was necessary to procure some sufficient testimony, and accordingly he withdrew.

Virginia.

Read a letter from the Earl of Hillsborough, one of his Majesty's principal Secretaries of State, dated May 17th, 1768, referring to this Board, for their consideration and report, an address to the King from the House of Burgesses of Virginia, praying his Majesty to allow of settlements being made to the westward of the Alleghany Mountains, agreable to grants made prior to the publication of the proclamation of October 7th, 1763.

Read a letter from the Earl of Hillsborough to the Board, dated May 17th, 1768, referring, for their lordships' consideration and report, an address to the King from the House of Burgesses of Virginia, relative to the emission of paper currency in that colony.

Their lordships took the above mentioned addresses into consideration, and after some time spent therein, the Secretary was ordered to write to Mr. Montague, agent for the House of Burgesses, and Colonel Mercer, agent for the Ohio Company, desiring their attendance at the Board on Tuesday, the 31st of May.

Barbados.

Read a letter from William Spry, Esquire, Governor of Barbados, to the Board, dated March 18th, 1768, informing their lordships of his arrival in that government.

Letter from William Tryon, Esquire, Governor of North Carolina, to the Board, dated February 2nd, 1768, relative to the expediency of a new emission of paper currency in that province, and inclosing
Resolutions of the Council and Assembly.
Petition of a committee of both Houses of Assembly to the King, respecting paper currency.
Copy of an address of the two House of Assembly of North Carolina to the Governor, January 16th, 1768, praying him to transmit their petition to the King.

Tuesday May 31. Present:—Lord Clare, Mr. Jenyns, Mr. Fitzherbert, Mr. Robinson.

Virginia.

fo. 113.

Mr. Montagu, agent for the House of Burgesses of Virginia, attending agreable to order, was examined touching the address of the said House for issuing a paper currency in that province. After some discourse had relative to the mode in which the said House of Burgesses proposed to issue their bills of credit, if his Majesty's leave for that purpose could be obtained, Mr. Montagu produced a printed paper extracted from the votes of that House, entitled "a scheme for issuing a paper currency in Virginia," but this paper not appearing to be referred to in the said address, nor transmitted by the Secretary of State together with the same, their lordships were of opinion, that Mr. Montagu should take it back, in order to procure a special reference to be made thereof.

Virginia.

Colonel Mercer attending likewise pursuant to order, was heard upon the subject matter of the address of the House of Burgesses for leave to settle to the westward of the Alleghany Mountains, and after stating to their lordships the improvements that had been made by the settlers under grants, prior to the proclamation of October, 1763, and the hardships they had suffered by being removed from their settlements, he withdrew.

North Carolina.

Six Acts passed in the island of Antigua in May, June, July and September, 1767, were laid before the Board, and it was ordered, that they should be referred to Sir Matthew Lamb, for his opinion thereupon in point of law. Likewise ten Acts passed in the island of St. Vincent's in July, 1767, and twenty seven Acts passed in North Carolina in January, 1768.
