Bishop of London's power.

Additional instruction.

An Order of Council of the 26th of last month, concerning some amendments to be made in the Governors' instructions in rela tion to the Bishop of London's power, exclusive of any other Bishop in the plantations, was read; whereupon ordered that an additional instruction be prepared for the several Governors in relation to that matter.

A letter from the Lord Carteret, of the 27th, upon the Board's letter to him of the 14th inst. of the last month, relating to the Lord Belhaven's memorial about settling the island of Tobago, was read; and Colonel Hart attending, their Lordships, after some discourse with him thereupon,

Ordered that an answer be prepared to the Lord Carteret's said letter.

A letter to the Lord Carteret, (ordered yesterday to be prepared), in answer to his Lordship's of the 27th of the last month, upon the Lord Belhaven's memorial about settling the island of Tobago, was agreed and signed.

Bermuda.

Colonel Hope's instructions.

Their Lordships then took into consideration Colonel Hope's instructions for the government of the Bermuda Islands, went through the same, and ordered, that Colonel Hope be acquainted that the Board desire to speak with him and Captain Dunwoody to-morrow morning.

Letter to Lord Carteret.

Colonel Hope, appointed Governor of the Bermuda Islands, attending with Capt Dunwoody, as they had been desired, their Lordships, after some discourse with them about several articles in his instructions, signed a representation to the King in relation to the alterations made therein, as also a letter inclosing the said instructions and those relating to the Acts of Trade and Navigation to the Lord Carteret, for His Majesty's approbation.

An Order of Council, of the 2nd inst., requiring the Board to prepare an instruction to all the Governors in the plantations, to hinder any East India ships trading there, was read; whereupon ordered that an instruction be prepared accordingly

Letter to Mr. H. Walpole.

Copies, Act.

Ordered that a letter be writ to Mr. Horatio Walpole, to move the Lords of His Majesty's Treasury, that the Board may have forty copies of the Act, passed in the 7th year of His present Majesty, entituled, An Act for the further preventing His Majesty's subjects from trading to the East Indies under foreign commissions, and for encouraging and further securing the lawful trade thereto, and for further regulating the pilots of Dover, Deal and the Isle of Thanet, to be sent to every Governor and Commander in Chief in the plantations, as directed by the said Order.

A letter from the Lord Carteret of the 14th inst., about preparing an additional instruction for the Lord Belhaven, Governor of Barbadoes, etc., relating to the settling of Tobago, was read, and a letter to the Lord Carteret, inclosing the said additional instruction, was signed.

Letter from Mr. Cox.

A letter from Mr. Cox, President of the Council of Barbadoes, dated the 23rd of August, 1721, was read, and the papers, therein referred to, were laid before the Board, viz.

Depositions against Mr. Lenoir, Deputy Secretary of Barbados.
Three lists of vessels that have entered and cleared at Barbados, from 25th September, 1720, to 25th June, 1721.

Their Lordships then took into consideration an additional instruction to the Governors of New York, New Jersey, Carolina and Barbados, (ordered to be prepared the 3rd inst.), in relation to the Bishop of London's sole power of licensing ministers and school masters there, and made a progress therein.

A letter to the Lord Carteret, inclosing the draught of an additional instruction to the Governors of New York, New Jersey, Carolina and Barbadoes, in relation to the Bishop of London's power of licensing ministers and school masters in the plantations, was agreed and ordered to be transcribed.

October 25. Present:—Mr. Chetwynd, Mr. Docminique, Mr. Pelham, Mr. Bladen, Mr. Ashe, Mr. Plummer, Sir John Hobart.

New Commission.

Sir John Hobart.

A new commission under the great seal of Great Britain, dated the 14th instant, whereby, besides the great Officers of State, as usual in former commissions, the Right Honourable the Earl of Westmorland, John Chetwynd, Paul Docminique, Thomas Pelham, Martin Bladen, Edward Ashe, Richard Plummer, Esqrs., and Sir John Hobart, Baronet, are appointed Commissioners for promoting the Trade of this Kingdom, and for inspecting and improving His Majesty's plantations in America, was read, and Sir John Hobart, being present, took his place at the Board.

Observations of Mr. Jefferies, at the request of the British merchants at Dantzig, upon the form of a new convention with Great Britain relating to trade.
Copy of a letter from Mr. Le Coq, envoy from Poland, to Lord Townshend, dated the 13th inst.
Observations upon the demands of the English merchants at Dantzig, inclosed in Mr. Le Coq's letter;
and their Lordships agreed to take that matter into further consideration on Friday morning next.

A letter from the Lord Viscount Townshend, of the 25th of August last, with the copy of the draught of a treaty with Dantzig, for the opinion of the Board thereupon, was read.

A letter from Mr. Tigh, Consul at Elsinore, dated the 25th inst., N.S., signifying the King of Denmark's revoking the order for laying an additional duty on ships passing the Sound, was read. (Fol. 327.)

A letter from the Lord Viscount Townshend, of the 24th inst., relating to a treaty of commerce with Dantzig, was read, and the papers, therein referred to, laid before the Board, viz.

Duke of Portland's appointments.

A letter from the Lord Carteret, of the 11th instant, requiring the Board to prepare an instruction for the Duke of Portland, appointed the Governor of Jamaica, agreeable to that to Lord Belhaven, Governor of Barbadoes, etc., relating to his appointments, was read.

Their Lordships then taking into consideration the draught of instructions for the said Duke of Portland, made a progress therein.
