Plantations General.

Pirate's petition.

Mr. Gee to hasten what merchants have to offer.

Their Lordships taking again into consideration the Order of Council, referring to this Board a petition from the pirates desiring His Majesty's most gracious pardon, (mentioned in the Minutes of the 15th of the last month), ordered that Mr. Gee be desired to let their Lordships have, as soon as may be, what he and the other merchants may have to offer in relation thereto.

Letter from Sir Nicholas Lawes about damages by a violent storm.

Papers referred to.

A letter from Sir Nicholas Lawes, late Governor of Jamaica, dated the 20th September, 1722, relating to a violent storm, which happened there the 28th August last, was read, and the papers, therein referred to, were laid before the Board, viz.:—
Copy of an address from the Governor and Council of Jamaica, to the King.
List of warlike stores to be sent to Jamaica.
Colonel De Lawny's account of the damage done to His Majesty's fortifications and stores at Port Royall.
The Jamaica Courant, of 12th September, 1722.

Copy of Sir Nicholas Lawes's letter etc. to be sent Lord Carteret.

List of the shipping lost and damaged the 28th August, 1722.

Ordered that a copy of Sir Nicholas Lawes's said letter and the papers, therein referred to, be sent to the Lord Carteret.

Letter from Mr. Younge, Company of Switzers from Missisippi.

A letter from Mr. Younge, agent for South Carolina, dated the 4th December, 1722, with several papers, relating to a company of Swiss, who have deserted from the Missisippi Company to Carolina.

Demands of Spaniards.

Reciprocal restitution.

Another letter from Mr. Younge, of 5th December, 1722, with several papers relating to the demands of the Spaniards from St. Augustine, and concerning the making reciprocal restitution between the English and Spaniards, for what was taken on either side after the cessation of arms, were read; and their Lordships resolved to consider further thereof at another opportunity.

The following papers received from Mr. Younge, and mentioned in General Nicholson's letter, read the 30th of last month, were laid before the Board, viz.:—

Letter to Lord Carteret with letters and papers from Sir Nicholas Lawes.

Miserable condition of the island. Hurricane.

A letter to the Lord Carteret, for inclosing a copy of Sir Nicholas Lawes's letter, (mentioned in yesterday's Minutes), and the papers, therein referred to, in relation to the miserable condition the island of Jamaica is reduced to, by the hurricane, which happened there in August last, was agreed and signed.

Carolina.

Mr. Younge's letter, etc., about reciprocal restitution with the Spaniards considered.

Their Lordships taking again into consideration the letter from Mr. Younge, agent for South Carolina, dated the 5th December, 1722, with several papers relating to the demands of the Spaniards from St. Augustine, and concerning the making reciprocal restitution between the English and Spaniards, for what was taken on either side, after the cessation of arms, mentioned in the Minutes of the 6th inst;

Ordered that the draught of a letter should be prepared for inclosing the same, and the papers, therein referred to, to the Lord Carteret.

Letter to Mr. Horace Walpole of the Treasury.

Allowance to Mr. Barnes.

Ordered that a letter be writ to Mr. Horace Walpole to desire him to move the Right Honourable the Lords of the Treasury for an allowance to be made to Mr. Barnes, for his services in discovering the running of wool to France, etc.

Letter to Mr. Carkesse.

Imports and exports of rice.

Ordered that a letter be writ to Mr. Carkesse, for an account of the imports and exports of rice for three years, from Christmas, 1717, to Christmas, 1720.

Letter to Mr. Younge.

Account of production of rice.

Ordered that a letter be writ to Mr. Younge, agent for South Carolina, for an account of the annual production of rice in the said province.

Act about estate of Mr. Reid.

Representation signed.

A representation upon an Act passed in Jamaica, in 1721, entituled An Act for vesting certain lands in the parish of St. Thomas in the Vale in trustees for the use of George Reid, Esq., and his heirs, ordered to be prepared the 30th of last month, was agreed and signed.

Letters from Mr. Younge.

A letter to the Lord Carteret, for inclosing the copies of the papers received with Mr. Younge's letter, mentioned in the Minutes of the 7th inst., ordered then to be prepared, was agreed and signed.

Letter from Lord Carteret.

Spaniards' complaint about an English fort.

Mr. Younge summoned.

A letter from the Lord Carteret, of the 8th inst., in relation to a fort erecting by order of the Government of Carolina near Florida, complained of by the Spanish Minister here, was read; and ordered that Mr. Younge be acquainted that the Board desire to speak with him, on Friday morning next.

A letter from Mr. Younge, agent for South Carolina, of 10th December, 1722, relating to the production of rice in that province, and the account, therein referred to, was laid before the Board, viz.:—
Account of the exports of rice, pitch, tar, etc., from Carolina, from Christmas, 1718, to October, 1721.

Letter to Lord Carteret.

Original address, miserable condition of the island.

A letter to the Lord Carteret, inclosing the original address from the Governor and Council of Jamaica, in relation to the late storm there, (received from Mr. Stevenson, agent of that island), was agreed and signed.

December 14. Present:—Mr. Pelham, Mr. Plummer.

Carolina.

Lord Carteret's letter about fort complained of by the Spaniards.

Mr. Younge.

Their Lordships, taking again into consideration the Lord Carteret's letter of the 8th inst., in relation to a fort erecting, by order of the Governor of Carolina, near Florida, complained of by the Spanish Minister here; and Mr. Younge, agent for South Carolina, attending as he had been desired, laid before the Board a map of that province wherein it appears, (as also by the charters), that the aforesaid fort complained of by the Spaniards, is within the limits of Carolina and not those of the Spaniards.

The matter to be reconsidered.

Mr. Younge being withdrawn, their Lordships resolved to consider further thereof at another opportunity.

Act sent to Mr. West.

Ordered that the Act passed in Carolina, in June last, entituled, An Act for the good government of Charles Town, be sent to Mr. West for his opinion thereupon in point of law.

Their Lordships taking again into consideration the Lord Carteret's letter of the 8th inst., (mentioned in last Minutes), in relation to a fort erecting, by order of the Governor of Carolina, near Florida, etc.; ordered that the draught of a representation should be prepared thereupon, as also a letter for inclosing the same to the Lord Carteret.

Their Lordships taking again into consideration the Lord Carteret's letter of the 8th inst., (mentioned in yesterday's Minutes) the draught of a representation thereupon, and of a letter to inclose the same to the Lord Carteret, ordered yesterday to be prepared, were agreed and ordered to be transcribed.

December 20. Present:—Mr. Chetwynd, Mr. Docminique, Mr. Pelham, Mr. Bladen.
