Order in Council, of the 27th of the last month, approving of Sir Richard Everard, Bart., to be Deputy Governor of North Carolina [folios 54, 80], was read, and Sir Richard attending, acquainted their Lordships that Richard Mead and John Burgh, Esquires, were willing to be his sureties for his observance of the Acts of Trade; which their Lordships approving, ordered that the draught of a bond be prepared for that purpose, and that it be transmitted to Mr. Scrope, Secretary to the Lords of the Treasury, in order to its being executed in the usual form.

Letter from Mr. Burchet, Secretary to the Lords of the Admiralty, desiring heads of enquiry may be prepared for the Commodore of the Newfoundland Convoy, was read, and their Lordships resolved to consider further thereof on Thursday morning next, as also of

Petition of Mr. Salmon against Lieutenant Governor Gledhill.

The petition of Mr. Salmon [folio 76] complaining of Mr. Gledhill, Lieutenant Governor of Placentia, and praying that he may not be molested in his fishery there.

Letter to merchants.

Ordered that Mr. Lyle and Mr. Norris be reminded of their having promised, (when they attended the Board the 18th of February last), to give in writing what they had to offer, in relation to the Swedish Ordinance [folios 40, 171] whereby all nations are prohibited importing into Sweden any goods but of their own product, and that they be desired to let their Lordships have their thoughts upon the subject as soon as possible.

Captain St. Lo about answer to some Heads of Inquiry.

Captain St. Lo, of the Ludlow Castle, attending, as he had been desired, their Lordships desired he would give his answer to the 48th and 50th heads of enquiry, which Captain Bowler, commodore to the last year's convoy to Newfoundland, had referred to him, which he promised to do accordingly.

New Heads of Inquiry to be prepared.

Their Lordships took into consideration and read the answer to the heads of enquiry given to Captain Bowler, commodore to the last year's convoy to Newfoundland, which were mentioned in yesterday's Minutes, and gave some directions for preparing the usual heads of enquiry for Captain Bowler, who is likewise appointed for the Newfoundland station this year.

Mr. Snowden attending, with a sister of Mr. Salmon's, whose petition is mentioned in the Minutes of 6th instant, they presented to the Board two affidavits in further proof of the allegations of the said petition, which were read; whereupon ordered that the secretary send a copy of the said petition and papers thereunto belonging to Colonel Gledhill, for his answer thereto.

Agents summoned.

A reference from the Duke of Newcastle, dated the 5th instant, on the petition of William Fry [folio 89] of the Island of Montserrat, Esquire, complaining against General Hart, Governor of the Leeward Islands, for suspending the petitioner from the Council of that Island, for suspending the petitioner from the Council of that Island, was read; whereupon ordered that Mr. Nivine and Mr. Barker, agent for the said General Hart, have notice to attend the Board on Thursday morning next.

A draught of heads of enquiry, relating to the fishery of Newfoundland for the year, 1725, directed to be prepared on the 6th instant, was agreed, and ordered to be sent to Mr. Burchet, secretary to the Right Honorable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.

Mr. Attorney and Solicitor General's report about mate of a ship killed.

Mr. Attorney and Mr. Solicitor General's report upon the extract of Mr. Worseley's letter [folio 76], sent to them the 13th instant, in relation to the mate of a ship's having been killed by a shot fired from James' Fort, was read.

Mr. Nivine and Mr. Sharpe about Mr. Fry's suspension from the Council.

Draught of representation on that subject.

Mr. Nivine, attending, as he had been desired, as also Mr. Sharp in behalf of Mr. Barker [folios 84, 90], their Lordships took into consideration the reference from His Grace the Duke of Newcastle of the 5th, and mentioned in the Minutes of the 20th instant, upon the petition of William Fry, Esquire, complaining that General Hart, Governor of the Leeward Islands, had suspended him from the Council of Montserrat, and praying for relief therein, was read, and after some discourse with them upon this subject, their Lordships were pleased to give directions for preparing the draught of a representation thereupon.

Inquiry to be made about absence of Councillors.

Their Lordships observing, by a paragraph in the Duke's said letter that Colonel Sadler, Captain Gregory, Colonel Pusey and Major Rose, four of the Councillors of Jamaica, were absent from the Island without any Licence of Leave from His Grace [folios 158, 186], ordered that the Secretary do inform himself whether they are in England, and if so, when they intend to return back to Jamaica.

Mr. Burchet of the Admiralty to have extract of Mr. Worseley's letter about Captain Cooper.

Ordered that an extract of Mr. Worseley's letter, dated the 18th October, 1724, and of the papers, therein referred to, relating to the behaviour of Captain Cooper, Commander of the Lynn, at Barbados [folios 85, 158], mentioned in the Minutes of the 21st instant, be sent to Mr. Burchet for the information of the Right Honorable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty.

Letter from Lord Townshend with papers about new lighthouses in Denmark and Norway.

A letter from the Lord Townshend, of the 20th April, 1725, inclosing several extracts of letters from the Lord Glenorchy, Envoy Extraordinary at the Court of Denmark, in relation to two new lighthouses set up on the coast of Norway [folio 163], was read, viz:—

Whereupon ordered that a copy of the list of duties, mentioned in one of the said extracts, to be paid for maintaining the said lighthouses, be sent to Mr. Astell, and that he be desired to let their Lordships have his opinion thereupon, as soon as may be.

New York.

Mr. Sharpe.

A day for hearing the merchants and agents concerning the Indian Trade Act appointed.

Mr. Sharpe attending, with several merchants trading to New York, acquainted their Lordships that they were now prepared to give their answer to the several papers transmitted from Mr. Burnet, Governor of New York, in relation to the Act for preventing the selling of Indian goods to the French [folios 65, 102], and therefore desired that their Lordships would be pleased to appoint a short day for hearing what they might have to offer upon this subject, whereupon their Lordships appointed Wednesday next at ten o'clock in the morning precisely, and gave directions that the agents of New York should be acquainted therewith, and that they then might attend with their counsel, if they thought fit.
