Leeward Islands.

William Mathew, Esquire, his commission for Governor.

A letter from the Duke of Newcastle, dated the 27th of March last, signifying His Majesty's appointment of William Mathew, Esq., to be Governor of the Leeward Islands, and directing the draught of a commission and instructions to be prepared for him, was read; and the Secretary laying before the Board the draught of a commission accordingly, a representation thereupon, and a letter, inclosing the same to the Duke of Newcastle, were signed.

Miscellanies.

Incidents and salary.

A letter to the Lords of the Treasury, desiring payment of the incidental charges of this office, from Christmas, 1732, to Lady Day, 1733, as also of the salaries due to the Secretary and other officers for the same time, was signed.

New York.

Tract of land.

Mr. Drummond attending, desired their Lordships would please to appoint a day for taking into consideration the Order of the Committee of Council, upon the petition of Sir Joseph Eyles and others, praying that a tract of land granted them in New York, may be erected into a county, read the 9th of the last month; and a petition from Mr. Paris, praying that the said land may not be erected into a county, being read, their Lordships appointed Tuesday next, and gave directions that all parties should have notice thereof.

North Carolina.

Complaints against the Governor.

Then were read four papers from Mr. Rice and Mr. Ashe, containing complaints against Captain Burrington, Governor of North Carolina.

Sicilian merchants attend.

The Sardinia merchants attending, presented to the Board a memorial containing a proposition to prevent the difficulties and obstructions they meet with in their trade in the King of Sardinia's dominions, which being read, as also

An anonimous letter upon the same subject, directions were given for writing to Mr. Carkesse for an account of the duties payable upon the importation of raw silk, how long they are to continue, and how appropriated.

Newfoundland.

Lord Muskerry appointed Governor.

A letter from the Duke of Newcastle, dated the 3rd inst., signifying His Majesty's appointment of the Lord Muskerry to be Governor of Newfoundland, and directing the draughts of a commission and instructions to be prepared for him, were read; and the Secretary laying before the Board the draught of a commission accordingly, a representation thereupon, and a letter, for inclosing the same to the Duke of Newcastle, were signed.

North Carolina.

Gabriel Johnstone appointed Governor.

A letter from the Duke of Newcastle, dated the 27th of last month, signifying His Majesty's appointment of Gabriel Johnstone, Esq., to be Governor of North Carolina, was read; and the Secretary laying before the Board the draught of a commission accordingly, a representation thereupon, and a letter, for inclosing the same to the Duke of Newcastle, were signed.

Nova Scotia.

Canco justices.

A letter from Captain Fytche, dated the 9th inst., desiring to be instructed, in relation to the justices and settlement at Canco, was read, and directions were given that an answer should be sent to the said letter.

Massachusetts.

Order of the House of Lords for the Governor's conference with the Indians.

An Order from the House of Lords, dated the 10th inst., requiring this Board to lay before them Mr. Belcher's conference with the Indians, and the Journal of the House of Representatives of the province of the Massachusetts Bay, was read; ordered that the Secretary do present the said papers to the House accordingly.

New York.

Tract of land.

Mr. Drummond and Mr. Perrie attending, with Mr. Sharpe, upon their petition, read the 9th of the last month, praying that a tract of land granted them in New York, may be erected into a county; and Mr. Paris attending, against the same, the said petition, as likewise a petition from Mr. Paris, read the 3rd inst., were again read; and the Board, after hearing what each party had to offer, gave directions for sending a copy of the said petitions to Mr. Fane, for his opinion whether the King has a power to erect these lands into a county, or annexing the same to a county, and by what means the same may properly be done.

Newfoundland.

Instructions for the Governor.

A representation to His Majesty, and a letter to the Duke of Newcastle, with the draughts of instructions for the Lord Muskerry, Governor of Newfoundland, were signed.

Trade.

Difficulties in Sicilian trade.

The draught of a representation, relating to difficulties the British merchants meet with in their trade to the King of Sardinia's dominions, was ordered to be prepared.

The representation, relating to the difficulties the British merchants meet with in their trade to the King of Sardinia's dominions, ordered to be prepared at the last meeting, was agreed.

April 25. Present:—Mr. Docminique, Mr. Pelham, Mr. Bladen, Mr. Ashe.

Leeward Islands.

Instructions for the Governor.

Lieut. General Mathew, appointed Governor of the Leeward Islands, attending, desired their Lordships would be pleased to appoint his son to be of the Council of St. Christophers, in the room of Mr. Burryan, deceased, and Mr. Vernon to be of the Council of Antigua in the room of (fn. 1) —, which their Lordships agreeing to, their names were accordingly inserted in the draught of his general instructions, which with those relating to the Acts of Trade, being likewise agreed, a representation therewith, and a letter, for inclosing the same to his Grace the Duke of Newcastle, were agreed and signed.

Mr. Fane's report upon the petition of Sir John Eyles and others, praying that a tract of land His Majesty has granted them in New York, may be erected into a county or annexed to one already erected, as also upon the petition of Mr. Paris against the same, was read, and the Board taking again into consideration the Order of the Lords of the Committee upon this subject, read the 9th of the last month, as also the said petition of Mr. Paris, read the 3rd inst., gave directions for preparing the draught of a report thereupon.

April 27. Present:—Mr. Docminique, Mr. Bladen, Mr. Ashe.

The draught of a report, ordered yesterday to be prepared, about erecting into a county the tract of land in New York, granted to Sir John Eyles and others, was agreed and ordered to be transcribed.
