	Indenture, 1 July 2 Hen. VIII., whereby the King covenants (in consequence of their suit for the purparty belonging to the said Anne, of the possessions of Anne Countess of March and Ulster, mother of Richard Duke of York, father of Edward IV.), to grant them, before Michaelmas next, in tail, by patent, the castle and manor of Wyngfeld, the manors of Sileham (with Velez and Stradbroke), Frostenden and Cretyng, Suff., of Costessey and Stokton, with soke, Norf., of Cudlyngton, Lewkenor, and Newenham Courteney, Oxon, of Langley Westbradley, Berks, of Gresthorp and Normanton, with lands in Sutton and North Clyfton, Notts, of Blyburgh and Westwode with lands in Coryngham, Linc., of Faxflete, &c., Yorks., of Norton under Hampden, Soms., of Wylmyngden, Kent, and of Evyngdon, Leic., in exchange for the inheritance of the said Anne in the lands of Edward IV.; and also to grant to the said Thomas, in fee, the manors of Claxton, Norf. and Fyndon, Suss. The said Thomas to take no benefit after the decease of Anne, as tenant by courtesy.

	Received his letters reporting the retreat of the Venetians in disorder into Padua, and afterwards those answering the King's written resolution in case his army should retire and the Pope (in Ferrara) and Swiss (in Milan) innovate anything. Has already answered the letter in which he writes that the Prince of Hanault desired to entertain the army for the Emperor, who would give security (upon Verona, the Veronois, Lignano and Valleige) and deliver the old castle of Verona, with a bond like that of last year when he borrowed the 50,000 cr. In view of the continual practices the security must be absolute; and for the present month Chaumont must keep his men together, viz., 5,000 foot, 300 horse artillery and 300 pioneers, even if the old castle is not delivered. Meanwhile the King hopes to take some conclusion with the Emperor, for Dr. Mota, who arrived two days ago, says that the Emperor will again send hither Mons. de Gurse and Maitre d'hotel Rigault to treat and conclude all things. The Prince of Hanault should be told that the Emperor must pay all extraordinary expenses. Bloys, 5 July. Signed. Countersigned: Robertet.

	3 July. Praise his dealing with the English ambassador. The Pope's agent in England should effect the understanding with the kings.
	10 July. Much commend the Pope's idea of sending a nuncio into England, where the King and Council are unsatisfied with the treaty and the people hostile to France.

	From the bp. of Tioli to the Pope, Blois, 13 July.—The King wishing him to tell the Council what he had said in justification of the Pope's arrest of Cardinal Aus, he met them, viz., the President of Paris, Treasurer Rubertet, and the Bailly of Amiens. When they had heard it they said the Pope had done many things against the King, as (1) treating with Spain and England against him, (2) giving the investiture of Naples to Spain, paying the Swiss, attacking Genoa, wishing to have Ferrara, favouring the Venetians, &c. * * *

	15 July 1510.—Waited for letters from him and have now received those of 8 and 25 ult. The mission of the lord of St. John and the Doctor (fn. 1) to France is disturbing, as it was thought that England was rather seeking to break the agreement. Before the receipt of this, it will be known that the Pope has decided to resist the French designs; and they are certain that England will assist him, as Spain has already shown signs of doing. The Emperor has been so often injured by the French that he will doubtless do the same. These princes will be encouraged to hear that 10,000 Swiss are coming to the Pope, through Milan, that Marco Antonio Colonna, and Octavian and Janus da Campo Fregoso are about to expel the French from Genoa, with aid of a Papal and Venetian fleet. Hold Padua and Treviso although the enemy is burning their territories.
	Badoer must urge the King to join in alliance with the Pope and Venice. He shall tell the King that the bows provided by Chà. da Pesaro are ready, but cannot be sent as no one will risk taking the galleys—distrusting the French. He shall show Peter Griphus and Christopher, the Pope's nuntii, that he is ordered to assist them.

15 July.	530. DOGE and SENATE OF VENICE to their AMBASSADOR with the POPE.
Ib.	Wrote yesterday of the departure of the marquis of Mantua. The Pope's answer to Signor Alberto and briefs to the Princes, especially England, are good. Pleased to hear of disposition of the English ambassador.

	From Andrea Badoer, London, in haste, 17 July.—Has returned from Winchester, where the Court is, because he has heard that the King has letters from France to the effect that France took Lignago in order to fulfil the league of Cambray, but would not go further, and that one_ (blank), who is one of the first men there since the death of the Cardinal of Rouen, has become a good Venetian and has said that a league is in train between the Pope, England, Spain, the Archduke of Burgundy and Venice.

	Proposed marriage of Leonora with the Duke of Lorraine. Complains of the tone of her writing. She writes that he did not answer her upon the matter of Guilain, his verlet de Chambre. Wrote the answer from Ysprouc, that he was content to do it; as she will hear shortly by Guilain at his return. Has also kept the English ambassador here. Possibly the letter has been lost. Protests that he has given her no cause to doubt his confidence in her.
	You hold the matter between us three kings to be great and I [hold it] little; as you shall hear more fully by Guilain. The King of Arragon a year ago, after having obtained his own in Naples, failed to keep his league of Cambray and left me without aid. And now he has only sent us 400 lances without pages or other combatants, a shame to him and a bad example to me. You know well what loyalty the English kept to good Duke Philip and Duke Charles, his son, our grandfathers. However, I mean to go forward in the hope of better fortune, for our affinityé depend on this alliance. Otherwise I must find another expedient.
	P.S.—Returns her unreasonable letter, to be burnt; and desires her to write graciously, as he does.
