PREFACE
The thanks of the Society are due to Mr. John Strachan, K.C., until lately H.M. Registrar of the Lincoln District Probate Registry, for his kindness in giving access to the documents under his charge; and to the clerks of the Registry for their courtesy.
The editor desires also to acknowledge his debt to Mr. A. Hamilton Thompson, m.a., f.s.a., upon whose ready help he can always depend. He is also indebted to the Rev. Canon J. T.
