Message from the King, concerning a Recess.

The Lord Chancellor acquainted the House with a Message he was commanded to deliver to their Lordships from the King; which his Lordship read, as followeth:

"Charles R.

"His Majesty being frequently desired, by several Members of the House of Peers, to dispense with their Absence from the Service of the House, and to give them Leave to go into the Country for their Healths and their Affairs; and finding that the Circuits will carry very many of the Members of the House of Commons in their several Countries, where (He doubts not) they will much advance His Majesty's Service, and the Peace of the Kingdom; and the House of Commons having, by their Speaker, desired His Majesty's Leave to go into the Country: His Majesty is graciously pleased that both Houses shall have a Recess upon Saturday the Eight of the next Month, in which Time He doubts not but Care will be taken for the raising such Money as shall be necessary for the Payment of the Debts of the Navy, disbanding the Army, and supporting them till they shall be disbanded; which His Majesty desires as much as any Man. And His Majesty intends that both Houses shall meet again upon Tuesday the Sixth of November next.

"Whitehall, this 31th of August, 1660."

Message to H. C. for a Conference about it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Edmond Peirce and Doctor Bennet:

To desire a present Conference with the House of Commons, in Painted Chamber, touching a Message received from His Majesty.

Order for Fees on Private Bills.

ORDERED, That the Fees due to the Officers of this House for all Private Bills shall be paid before the Second Reading of the said Bills, according to the ancient Custom.

Bill for draining the Great Level of the Fens.

The Earl of Northumb. reported from the Committee, the Bill concerning the Great Level of the Fens; and it is ORDERED, That the said Bill be ingrossed.

E. of Cleveland's Bill.

Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for the settling of all the Manors and Lands upon Trustees, for Payment of the Debts of the Earl of Cleveland, &c."

And the Question being put, "Whether this Bill shall pass as a Law?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

The Messengers return with this Answer:

Answer from H. C.

That the House of Commons will give a present Conference, as is desired.

The Lord Chancellor is appointed to manage the Conference.

The House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the Lords went to the Conference; which being ended, the House was resumed.

E. of Sterling & al. versus Levingston.

ORDERED, That the Cause between the Earl of Sterling and Leving'ton, &c. shall be heard To-morrow Morning, the next after the Lord Mohun's Cause.

E. of Winchilsea's Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Charlton, who returned the Earl of Winchilsea's Bill; to which they agree, with some Amendments, wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence.

The said Amendments were read Thrice, and Agreed to.

Count. of Derby, Ly. Culpeper & al. Nat. Bill.

Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for the naturalizing of Dorothea Helena Countess of Derby, and the Lady Margarett Culpeper, &c."

And the Question being put, "Whether this Bill shall pass as a Law?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Marq. of Dorchester, Leave to be absent.

ORDERED, That the Marquis of Dorchester shall have Leave to be absent from this House.

Sir G. Booth's Bill.

ORDERED, That Sir George Boothe's Bill shall be read the Second Time To-morrow Morning.

Wandley's Pet.

ORDERED, That the Petition of Andrew Wanley is referred to the Committee for the Marquis of Worcester's Bill; to be taken into Consideration when that Bill is, and to report as they see Cause.

Order for Payment of Fees on Private Bills.

ORDERED, That no Private Bill depending in this House, or that shall depend before their Lordships, shall be read in the House the Second Time, until the due Fees be paid to the several Officers belonging to this House, according to a former Settlement in that Behalf made.
