ORDERED, That the Committee for Piedmont do meet this Afternoon; and Witnesses in that Cause now to be sworn at this Bar.

Bill for Tanning Leather.

Hodie 1^a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for the more speedy and ready Way for Tanning and Dressing of Leather."

Order to prevent Robberies and Disorders in London, &c.

The House being informed of the great Disorder in London and Westm. and the Countries adjacent, and of the great Robberies and Murders as are daily committed:

It is ORDERED, That the Lord Chancellor do acquaint the Lord Chief Justice of England with this Information; and desire him to send to the Lord Mayor of London, and the Justices in the several Countries adjacent, to take special Order, by keeping strict Watches, and other lawful Means, to prevent these Disorders.

Message from H. C. with an Order; to remind the Lords of another, and of some Bills.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Edward Turner and others, which consisted of divers Particulars:

1. An Order for Payment of Three Thousand Four Hundred Pounds to Tho. Lodington, for the Service of Dunkerke. (Here enter it.)

Read, and Agreed to.

2. To put their Lordships in Mind of the Order for paying Money to Sir Tho. Dacres, and the Order for paying Money to Mr. Pecke.

3. To put their Lordships in Mind of the Bill to naturalize divers Merchant Strangers; which the House of Commons have examined, and find it will be no Prejudice to His Majesty.

4. To put their Lordships in Mind of passing divers other Bills which remain with their Lordships; as, the Bill for the County of Durham, the Bill concerning College Leases, and the Bill concerning the confirming of Magna Charta, &c.

The Answer returned was:

That this House concurs with the House of Commons in the Order for paying the Money to Lodington; as to the rest of the Particulars, their Lordships are now upon Business of great Importance, but their Lordships will take them into Consideration with what convenient Speed they can.

Message from H. C. with an Order.

Another Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Titus Esquire and others; who brought up an Order concerning Major General Langhorne, to pay him Three Thousand Pounds.

Read, and ordered to be considered of on Wednesday Morning next; and then other Orders from the House of Commons to be considered of.

The Answer returned was:

That their Lordships have considered this Business; but, being now upon Consideration of a Business of Concernment, their Lordships have appointed a particular Day, to consider of this and other Business from the House of Commons.

Message from H. C. with an Order.

Another Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Titus Esquire, &c.; who brought up an Order to pay to Colonel Buller Three Thousand Four Hundred Thirty-six Pounds, (fn. 1) Thirteen Shillings, and Ten Pence, out of the Excise.

That this House will return an Answer to this Message, by Messengers of their own.

E. of Sterling versus Levingston.

Upon further Consideration of the Cause between the E. of Sterling and his Wife, and others Plaintiffs, against Mr. Levingston and his Wife and others Defendants:

It is ORDERED, That the Clerk of the Parliament may give Intimation to the Petitioners, that they may bring in a Bill for their Relief.

Cary versus Cromwell.

ORDERED, That the Cause between Cary and Crumwell be put off until Wednesday Morning next.

ORDERED, That all Committees that were appointed to meet this Afternoon are adjourned until To-morrow in the Afternoon.

Order for 3400£. to Lodington.

"ORDERED, by the Lords and Commons in this present Parliament assembled, That the Sum of Three Thousand Four Hundred and Fifty Pounds, due and owing to Thomas Lodington, for Provisions by him furnished for the Garrison of Dunkerke, and charged by the last Council of State on the Receipt of Exchequer, be charged on the Receipt of Excise arising by the Moiety of the Excise of Beer and Ale, and paid to the said Thomas Lodington, or his Assigns, in Course, next after the other (fn. 2) Sums satisfied, which by former Orders of this Parliament are charged on the said Receipt: And the Commissioners for the Excise are hereby empowered and required to pay the same accordingly; and this Order, with the Acquittance of the said Thomas Lodington, or his Assigns, testifying the Receipt thereof, shall be to the said Commissioners a sufficient Warrant and Discharge."
