Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for confirming an Act for restoring of the Marquis of Hertford to the Dukedom of Somersett."

Bill to prevent melting Silver Coin.

The Earl of Bridgwater reported the Bill against melting of Silver Coin, wherein the Committee have thought fit to make some Amendments, which are offered to the Consideration of the House.

The Amendments were read Twice, and Agreed to, and ordered to be engrossed.

Bill concerning Quakers.

The Earl of Bridgwater reported the Bill concerning the Quakers, with some Amendments, which are offered to their Lordships Consideration; which Amendments were read Twice.

And the Question being put, "Whether this Bill shall be re-committed?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

ORDERED, That this Committee shall meet about this Business the First Thursday after Twelfth Day, videlicet, the 9th Day of January next, in the Afternoon.

Bill to regulate Corporations:

Next, the House was entering into Consideration of the Amendments in the Bill concerning Corporations; and a Proviso was offered, to be added thereunto.

Which Proviso being read and debated;

The Question being put, "Whether this Proviso shall be added to the Amendments in the Bill?"

It was Resolved in the Negative.

Then the Amendments in the said Bill were read the Third Time.

And the Question being put, "Whether to agree to these Amendments to the Bill touching Corporations?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Memorandum, That, before the putting the aforesaid Question, some Lords desired Leave to enter their Protestation, if the aforesaid Question was carried in the Affirmative.

And accordingly the Earl of Bollingbrooke entered his Protestation, upon these Reasons:

Protest against it.

"1. That these Amendments to the Bill touching Corporations, he conceives, are against the Privileges granted by the Great Charter, in the 9th and 29th Chapter, by many several Acts confirmed.

"2. That the Powers herein granted are against Judicial Trials, which proceed by Oath.

"Bolingbrooke."

Message to H. C. for a Conference about the Bill to regulate Corporations;--with Bills; and to remind them of Two.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Thomas Bennett and Sir Toby Wolridg:

To desire a present Conference, in the Painted Chamber, touching the Bill concerning Corporations.

2. To deliver to them Three Bills, which came from the House of Commons:

1. The Bill concerning confirming of certain Private Acts, with Additions in Parchment, according to their Desires.

2. The Bill to enable Dr. Peyton to sell Part of his Lands, for Payment of his Debts; and to desire Concurrence in some Amendments made by their Lordships therein.

3. The Bill for dividing Trynity Church, in Hull, from Hassle; wherein the Lords have made some Amendments, and do desire the Concurrence of the House of Commons therein.

3. To put the Commons in Mind of the Bill for preventing Vexations and Oppression in the Law, and of the Bill concerning Lyndsey Levell.

ORDERED, That the Lord Treasurer, Lord Chamberlain, Earl of Portland, and the Bishop of London, are appointed to manage this present Conference with the House of Commons.

Answer from H. C.

The Messengers sent to the House of Commons return with this Answer:

That they will give a present Conference, as is desired.

The House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the Lords went to the Conference; which being ended, the House was resumed.

New Bill to prevent disorderly Printing.

ORDERED, That His Majesty's Attorney General do bring in a new Bill for regulating of Printing; which is to be presented to this House at the Meeting immediately after the Adjournment.
