The Lord Chancellor acquainted the House with a Message from the King.

Message from the King, about an Adjournment.

The Effect of it was, "To let their Lordships know, That when the House of Commons waited upon Him at Whitehall, He did signify to them His Desire to have an Adjournment of both Houses, before Easter, for some Time; but His Majesty now, finding that many Businesses of Concernment are not yet dispatched, thinks it fit that there should be only an Adjournment of both Houses To-morrow until Thursday in Easter-week; and desires that, after the said Meeting again, both Houses would endeavour to dispatch those Businesses of Consequence as are depending before them, that so there may be an Adjournment for a further Time as soon as may be."

Order for Adjournment.

ORDERED, That, according to His Majesty's Message, this House do adjourn, To-morrow, until Thursday come Sevennight; and that, during the said Adjournment, Committees are to fit, to prepare such Businesses as are depending before them, to be ready for a Dispatch against the Time of Meeting again.

ORDERED, That the House of Commons be made acquainted, by a Conference, with the King's Message; and also to signify to them their Lordships Resolution concerning the Adjournment.

Message to H. C. for a Conference about it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Nath. Hobart and Sir Toby Wolridge:

To desire a present Conference, in the Painted Chamber, upon Occasion of a Message from the King, touching the Adjournment of both Houses.

Poor Bill.

ORDERED, That the Committee for the Bill concerning the Poor are to meet on (fn. 2) Wednesday next, at Nine of the Clock in the Morning.

Sheriffs Accompts Bill.

ORDERED, That the Earl of Anglesey is added to the Committee for the Bill concerning Sheriffs; which said Committee, and other Committees that are sine Die, shall meet To-morrow in the Afternoon.

D. of Somerset's Bill.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for making Provision for the speedy Payment of the Debts of the late Duke of Somersett."

Answer from H. C.

The Messengers sent to the House of Commons return with this Answer:

That they will give a Conference, as is desired.

ORDERED, That the Bishop of Hereford is added to the Committee for the Bill concerning the Poor.

The Commons being ready for the Conference, the House was adjourned during Pleasure, and the Lords went to the Conference; which being ended, the House was resumed.

Bill for bringing Persons to Accompt.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for the more speedy and effectual bringing those Persons to Accompt, whose Accompts are excepted in the Act of Oblivion."

Admiralty Jurisdiction Bill.

The Earl of Portland reported from the Committee, the Bill concerning the Jurisdiction of the Court of Admiralty, wherein their Lordships have made some Alterations and Amendments, which are offered to the Consideration of this House.

The Alterations and Amendments were read Once, and the Bill ordered to be re-committed; and the Committee to meet on Monday Morning next.

Lords Leave to be absent.

ORDERED, That the Lord Viscount Fauconberg and the Lord Astley have Leave to be absent from the Attendance of this House, for some Time.

ORDERED, That the Duke of Richmond, the Earl of Carlile, and the Lord Chandos, are added to the Committee for the Duke of Albemarle's Bill.

Woodman versus Bie, in Error.

Whereas this House hath adjudged, "That Twenty Pounds Costs shall be paid, by Woodman, Plaintiff in a Writ of Error, unto Bie Defendant, for his Vexation in the said Cause;" which the said Woodman refuseth to pay:

It is ORDERED, That the Committee for Privileges are to consider of Precedents in this Case, and what Way the said Costs are to be levied in Obedience to the said Judgement; and afterwards to make Report to this House.

Eedes admitted to Bail.

The House being moved this Day, "That Richard Eedes, now in Custody of the Serjeant at Arms attending this House upon a Contempt, which was this Day proved upon Oath, might be bailed for some Time, to the End that he might compose the Difference that now is between Mr. Lake and his Sisters:"

It is ORDERED, That the said Serjeant at Arms shall, upon good Bail from the said Eedes and his Securities, give him Liberty, from the Date of this Order, to the Third of April next, within which Time the said Eedes is to endeavour a Settlement of the Differences between the said Parties; and upon the said Third of April, to render himself into the Custody of the said Serjeant: And this to be a sufficient Warrant in that Behalf.

Crouch versus Atkinson, in Error.

The Cause between Crouch Plaintiff and Atkinson Defendant coming this Day to a Hearing, upon a Writ of Error depending in this House, wherein the Plaintiff hath assigned the Common Error:

It is ORDERED, That the said Cause is put off to the Seventh of April next; at which Time the Judgement given in the King's Bench shall be affirmed, and the Record remitted, if the Plaintiff in the said Writ shall not then shew good Cause to the contrary.

Tindall's Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Robert Howard and others; who brought up several Bills:

1. A Bill, intituled, "An Act for repairing the Highways and Sewers, and for paving and keeping clean of the Streets, in and about the Cities of London and Westm.; and for reforming of Annoyances and Disorders in the Streets and Places adjacent to the said Cities; and for regulating and licensing of Hackney Coaches; and for the enlarging of several strait and inconvenient Streets and Passages;" wherein they desire their Lordships Concurrence.

2. To return these Bills following:

1. The Earl of Huntingdon's Bill.

2. The Bill for naturalizing the Lady Wentworth.

To both which Bills they do agree, without any Amendments.

3. The Bill against importing of Wool-cards.

4. The Bill concerning Rowland Oakeover.

5. The Bill concerning the repairing of Dover Harbour.

To which Three Bills they do concur with their Lordships in the Alterations sent down.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act for restoring to Thomas Lord Culpeper, Son and Heir and sole Executor of John Lord Culpeper, Baron of Thorsway, and Master of The Rolls, deceased, all his Honours, Manors, Lands, and Tenements, and Leases not determined, and Hereditaments whatsoever, whereof the said John Lord Culpeper was in Possession on the Twentieth Day of May, 1642, or at any Time after, which have not been sold or aliened by the said John late Lord Culpeper by Acts or Assurances to which himself was Party and consenting."

Peck's Bill.

Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, "An Act to enable Thomas Peck to sell a Manor and some Lands, in the County of Norff. for the Payment of his Debts, and other Uses."

ORDERED, That the Consideration of this Bill is committed to the same Committee as the Bill for regulating Abuses in His Majesty's Customs is.
