The House unanimously chose the Lord Marquis of Halifax Speaker pro Tempore; the Lord Chief Baron Atkins not attending.


The Lord Privy Seal acquainted the House, "That Her Majesty had sent a Commission for the further proroguing of this Parliament."

Then the Lords Commissioners, in their Robes, being seated on a Form placed between the Throne and the Woolsack; the Lord Privy Seal in the Middle; and the Earl of Macclesfeild on his Right Hand; and the Lord Chamberlain and the Earl of Nottingham on his Left Hand; commanded the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod to go to the House of Commons, and let them know, "That the Commissioners desire them to come, "and be present, to hear the said Commission read."

Who being come, with their Speaker; the Commission was read, as followeth; (videlicet,)

Vicesimo Die Martii, Anno Regni Nostri Secundo, inchoari & teneri ordinaverimus; a quo Die idem Parliamentum Nostrum usque ad & in Vicesimum Tertium Diem Maii tunc proxime sequen. continuatum fuerat; & abinde, per separales Prorogationes & Adjournationes, ad & in Vicesimum Secundum Diem instantis Augusti prorogatum & adjournatum fuerat, apud Civitatem Nostram Westm. prædictam ibidem tunc tenendum & prosequendum: Sciatis tamen, quod, certis urgentibus Causis & Considerationibus Nos specialiter moventibus, idem Parliamentum Nostrum prorogandum duximus. De Fidelitate igitur, Prudentia, & Circumspectionibus vestris plurimum confidentes, de Avisamento & Assensu Concilii Nostri, assignavimus vos Commissionarios Nostros; dantes vobis, & aliquibus Tribus vel pluribus vestrum, Tenore Præsentium, plenam Potestatem & Auctoritatem, hoc instante Die Lunæ, præsens Parliamentum Nostrum, Nomine Nostro, ad & in Vicesimum Sextum Diem Septembris jam proxime futur. usque prædictam Civitatem Nostram Westm. prorogandum & continuandum, ibidemque tunc tenendum & prosequendum; & ideo vobis mandamus, quod circa Præmissa diligenter intendatis, ac ea in Forma prædicta effectualiter expleatis. Damus autem universis & singulis Archiepiscopis, Ducibus, Marchionibus, Comitibus, Vicecomitibus, Episcopis, Baronibus, Militibus, Civibus, & Burgensibus, ac omnibus aliis quorum interest ad dictum Parliamentum Nostrum conventuris, Tenore Præsentium, firmiter in Mandatis, quod vobis in Præmissis faciendis, agendis, & exequendis, pareant, obediant, & intendant, prout decet. In cujus Rei Testimonium, has Literas Nostras fieri fecimus Patentes.

Which being ended, the Lord Privy Seal said,

Parliament prorogued.

"My Lords and Gentlemen,

"By Virtue of Her Majesty's Commission now read, and to us directed, we do, in Their Majesties Name, prorogue this Parliament unto Monday the Six and Twentieth Day of September next: And this Parliament is prorogued accordingly to Monday the Six and Twentieth Day of September next."
