E. Holderness takes the Oaths.

This Day Robert Earl of Holderness took the Oaths, and made and subscribed the Declaration, and also took and subscribed the Oath of Abjuration, pursuant to the Statutes.

Queen's Answer to Address concerning the Pretender, &c.:

The Lord Chancellor reported, "That the House did Yesterday present to Her Majesty their humble Address of the Eighth Instant; to which Her Majesty was pleased to return the following most Gracious Answer; (videlicet,)

"My Lords,

"It would be a real strengthening to the Succession in the House of Hanover, as well as a Support to My Government, that an End were put to those groundless Fears and Jealousies, which have been so industriously promoted.

"I do not at this Time see any Occasion for such a Proclamation: Whenever I judge it to be necessary, I shall give My Orders for having one issued.

"As to the other Particulars of this Address, I will give proper Directions therein."

Address and Answer to be printed.

Ordered, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the Address of this House presented to Her Majesty Yesterday, and Her Majesty's most Gracious Answer thereunto, be forthwith printed and published.

Motion for Address of Thanks, &c.

Then, it being moved, "That an humble Address be presented to Her Majesty, to return Her Majesty the Thanks of this House, for Her most Gracious Answer to their Address; and to assure Her Majesty, That this House will concur with Her Majesty in all proper Measures for strengthening the Protestant Succession in the House of Hanover, as the only effectual Means to put an End to those Fears and Jealousies which have been so universally spread throughout this Kingdom."

And a Question being stated thereupon;

It was agreed, after the Word ["will"], to insert these Words; (videlicet,) ["to continue to consider of, and humbly to offer to Her Majesty, as well as to"].

And after the Word ["Measures"], to insert likewise these Words; (videlicet,) ["for supporting Her Majesty's Government and"].

Then, it being proposed, after the Word ["universally"], to insert ["and industriously"];

The Question was put, "Whether those Words shall be there inserted?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Address agreed to, and to be presented.

Ordered, That an humble Address be presented to Her Majesty, "To return Her Majesty the Thanks of this House, for Her most Gracious Answer to their Address; and to assure Her Majesty, That this House will continue to consider of, and humbly to offer to Her Majesty, as well as to concur with Her Majesty in, all proper Measures, for supporting Her Majesty's Government, and for strengthening the Protestant Succession in the House of Hanover, as the only effectual Means to put an End to those Fears and Jealousies which have been so universally and industriously spread throughout this Kingdom."

Ordered, That the said Address be presented to Her Majesty by the Lords with White Staves.

State of Treaties to be considered.

Ordered, That To-morrow this House will take into Consideration the State of the Treaties, in relation to the Peace.

He was called in; and delivered, at the Bar, Three Books, intituled as follows:

"The General State of the Receipts and Issues of the Public Revenue of England, between Michaelmas 1703 and Michaelmas 1704."

"The General State of the Receipts and Issues of the Public Revenue of Great Britain, between Michaelmas 1712 and Michaelmas 1713."

"A Report from the Commissioners, appointed to take, examine, and state, the Public Accompts of the Kingdom, and to determine the Debts due to the Army, &c."

And then he withdrew.
