PRAYERS.

Habeas Corpus Act, Bill to suspend, brought from H. C. and passed:

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Hampden and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act to empower His Majesty to secure and detain such Persons as His Majesty shall suspect are conspiring against His Person and Government;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The Bill was read the First Time.

Ordered, That, for the Safety of His Majesty's Person and Government, this House will proceed further this Day on the said Bill.

The Bill was read a Second Time.

Ordered, That the said Bill be now read a Third Time.

The Bill was accordingly read the Third Time.

And the Question being put, "Whether this Bill shall pass?"

It was Resolved in the Affirmative.

Message to them, that the Lords have agreed to it.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Mr. Rogers and Mr. Dormer:

To acquaint them, that the Lords have agreed to the said Bill, without any Amendment.

Cope's Bill.

The Earl of Clarendon reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act to enable Robert Cope Esquire to settle an additional Jointure, out of his Estate, on Elizabeth his now Wife, and also to raise Portions and Maintenances for his Daughters and Younger Children by her, and to enable those in Remainder to do the same," was committed: That they had considered thereof; that the Parties concerned had given their Consents; and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Ordered, That the said Bill be engrossed,

Causes put off.

Ordered, That the Cause wherein Charles Menzies is Appellant, and Helen, Barbara, and Jean Menzies, and Robert Muir, are Respondents, which was appointed to be heard this Day, be put off to Monday next; and the other Causes removed One Day in Course.

Tanner's Bill.

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for vesting the Estate late of John Tanner Esquire, deceased, in Trustees, to be sold, for Payment of his Debts."

Sir W. Courtenay's Bill.

The Lord Bishop of Carlisle reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for vesting certain Manors and Lands, in the Counties of Devon and Kent, the Estate of Sir William Courtenay Baronet, in Trustees and their Heirs, to be sold; and, with the Monies arising thereby, to purchase other Lands, in the County of Devon, contiguous to the Seat of the Family, to be settled to the same Uses," was committed: "That they had considered thereof; that the Parties concerned had consented thereunto; and that the Committee had gone through the said Bill; and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Ordered, That the said Bill be engrossed.

St. Albans, &c. Highways, Bill.

The Lord Delawar reported from the Committee, to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for repairing the Highways through the several Parishes of St. Michael, St. Albans, St. Peter, Shenley Ridge, and South Mims, in the Counties of Hertford and Middlesex," was committed: "That they had gone through the said Bill; and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

E. Clanriceard versus Bourke & al.

The House being moved, on the Behalf of Colonel Thomas Bourke and Hellen Countess Dowager of Clanricarde, Respondents to the Appeal of John Earl of Clanricarde and Michael Lord Dunkellin, presented to this House Yesterday, "That Four Weeks Time may be allowed them, to answer the said Appeal, from the Time of presenting thereof; the Proceedings therein complained of being made in the Chancery in Ireland:"

It is Ordered, That the Respondents have hereby Time allowed, to answer the said Appeal, until Friday the Nineteenth Day of August next; and that the Service of the Order of this House upon their Clerk in Court shall be deemed good Service.

The House was adjourned during Pleasure, to robe.

The House was resumed.

King present:

His Majesty, being seated on His Royal Throne, adorned with His Crown and Regal Ornaments, and attended with His Officers of State (the Prince of Wales, in his Robes, sitting in his Chair on His Majesty's Right Hand, the Lords being also in their Robes); commanded the Gentleman Usher of the Black Rod to let the Commons know, "It is His Majesty's Pleasure, they attend Him immediately, in the House of Peers."

Who being come, with their Speaker; the Clerk of the Crown read the Title of the Bill following; (videlicet,)

Bill to suspend the Habeas Corpus Act passed.

"An Act to empower His Majesty to secure and detain such Persons as His Majesty shall suspect are conspiring against His Person and Government."

To which the Clerk Assistant, in the Absence of the Clerk of the Parliaments, pronounced the Royal Assent, in these Words; (videlicet,)

"Le Roy le veult."

Then His Majesty was pleased to retire; and the Commons withdrew.

Adjourn.
