Hodie 2a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act to enable George Warren Esquire, his Heirs and Assigns, to make a Sluice, or Tunnel, through Part of the Glebe belonging to the Rectory of Stockport, in the County of Chester; and to use and enjoy the same, for conveying Water to Stockport Mills."

Ordered, That the said Bill be committed to the Consideration of the Lords Committees aforenamed:

E. Morton's Bill:

The Earl of Findlater reported from the Lords Committees to whom the Bill, intituled, "An Act for dissolving and disannexing from the Crown, and the Patrimony thereof, the Earldom of Orkney, and Lordship of Zetland; and for vesting the same irredeemably in James Earl of Morton and his Heirs, discharged from any Power or Right of Redemption in His Majesty, His Heirs or Successors," was committed: That they had considered the said Bill, and examined the Allegations thereof, which they found to be true; and that the Committee had gone through the Bill, and directed him to report the same to the House, without any Amendment."

Meredith, Leave for a Bill:

After reading, and considering, the Report of the Judges to whom was referred the Petition of Amos Meredith, of Henbury, in the County of Chester, Esquire, his Wife, and others; praying Leave to bring in a Private Bill:

Hodie 1a vice lecta est Billa, intituled, "An Act for making Articles of Agreement, entered into by Amos Meredith Esquire and Joanna his Wife, as well in her own as in Behalf of their Seven Children, all Infants, and by Thomas Assheton Esquire, in Behalf of his Son, an Infant, touching the Partition of the Estate of Robert Cholmondeley, late of Holford, in the County of Chester, Esquire, deceased, now remaining unsold, obligatory on the said Infants; and rendering the said Partition effectual and binding to all Parties."

Addres for a State of the National Debt.

Ordered, That an humble Address be presented to His Majesty, "That He will be graciously pleased to order the proper Officer to lay before this House, a State of the National Debt, provided or unprovided for by Parliament, as it stood on the 31st of December, 1740, and 31st of December, 1741; together with an Accompt of the Produce of the Sinking Fund in that Year; and to the Payment of what Debts, contracted before the 25th of December 1716, the said Fund hath been applied."

Ordered, That the said Address be presented to His Majesty, by the Lords with White Staves.

Boucher's Nat. Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Humphrey Howarth and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing John Boucher;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

Duqueruy's Nat. Bill:

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Whichcote and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for naturalizing Isaac Nicholas Duqueruy and Michael Henry Duqueruy;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Bills were both read the First Time.

Sir T. Prendergast's Bill.

A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Mr. Southwell and others:

With a Bill, intituled, "An Act for explaining a Clause contained in an Act made in the Eleventh and Twelfth Years of the Reign of His late Majesty King William the Third, intituled, "An Act for granting an Aid to His Majesty, by Sale of the forfeited and other Estates and Interests in Ireland, and by a Land Tax in England, for the several Purposes therein mentioned," whereby several Grants made by His said Majesty to Sir Thomas Prendergast Baronet, deceased, of several Lands, Tenements, and Hereditaments, Part of the said forfeited Estates and Interests in Ireland, were ratified and confirmed;" to which they desire the Concurrence of this House.

The said Bill was read the First Time.

The Duke of Newcastle acquainted the House, "That His Majesty, having been informed of the Contents of the said Bill, was graciously pleased, so far as the Crown was concerned, to consent that their Lordships might proceed as they should think sit."

The King's Answer to Address for a State of the National Debt.

The Lord Steward reported, "That the Lords with White Staves had (according to Order) presented to His Majesty the Address of this House of Yesterday, for a State of the National Debt, provided or unprovided for by Parliament; and that His Majesty was pleased to say, He would order the proper Officer to lay the same before the House accordingly."

Which, being read Twice by the Clerk, were agreed to by the House.

Upon reading the Petition of Dame Anne Buck, Widow and Administratrix of Sir Charles Buck, late of Hanby, in the County of Lincoln, Baronet, deceased; and also Mother and Guardian of Sir Charles Buck Baronet, Eldest Son and Heir at Law to the said Sir Charles Buck, deceased, on Behalf of herself, and of the said Sir Charles Buck, now an Infant of about Eighteen Years of Age, and Fulke Grevile Esquire, Eldest Son and Heir of Algernon Grevile Esquire, deceased; praying Leave to bring in a Bill, for confirming certain Estates in the Petition mentioned, to the said Fulke Grevile and his Trustees; so that they, upon the Terms in the Petition expressed, may for the future hold and enjoy the same:

Vernon's Appeal revived.

Upon reading the Petition of Anna-Bella Vernon and Matilda Vernon, the only Daughters and Heirs at Law of Thomas Vernon Esquire and Jane Vernon his Widow, both deceased, and the said Matilda Vernon, as Administratrix of the said Thomas Vernon, with his Will annexed, and John Hunt Gentleman, Administrator of the said Jane Vernon, with the Will annexed; praying, "In regard, by the Decease of the said Jane Vernon, the Cause upon her Appeal, to which Captain John Vernon and others are Respondents, and all the Proceedings therein, are abated; that the same may stand revived, in such Manner as to the House shall seem meet:"

Upon reading the Petition of Walter Hungerford Esquire, John Ivory Talbot Esquire, Sir Robert Long Baronet, George Hungerford, Edward Bayntun Rolt, John Talbot the Younger, Lionel Duckett, and Goddard Smith, Esquires, Trustees of a Charity School founded at Calne in Wiltshire, by John Bentley Esquire, deceased, and of Sir John Williams Knight, and John Read Gentleman, surviving Affignees under a Commission of Bankruptcy awarded against William Hamond, late of Change Alley, London, Goldsmith and Banker, deceased; praying Leave to bring in a Bill, for establishing an Indenture and Conveyance of the 8th of February last; and for exempting the Premises thereby intended to be conveyed from all the Charitable Uses mentioned of the same by the Will of John Bentley, late of Richmond, or the Decree of the Commissioners for Charitable Uses, or otherwise:

It is Ordered, That the Consideration of the said Petition be, and is hereby, referred to the Lord Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas and Mr. Justice Fortescue Aland; with the usual Directions, according to the Standing Order.

E. of Anglesey against Anndsley.

After hearing Counsel, as well on Monday and Yesterday as this Day, upon the Petition and Appeal of Richard Earl of Anglesey; complaining of a Decree of the Court of Chancery in Ireland, of the 28th of February 1740, made in a Cause wherein Charles Annesley Esquire of the City of Dublin was Plaintiff, and the Appellant Defendant, et è contra; and praying, "That the said Decree might be reversed and set aside; and that the Appellant's Cross-bill might be retained in the said Court, and the Matters therein prayed decreed to him; or that he might have such other Relief as to this House in their great Wisdom should seem meet:" As also upon the Answer of the said Charles Annesley put in to the said Appeal; and due Consideration had of what was offered on either Side in this Cause:

It is Ordered and Adjudged, by the Lords Spiritual and Temporal in Parliament assembled, That the said Petition and Appeal be, and is hereby, dismissed this House; and that the said Decree therein complained of be, and the same is hereby, affirmed.
