HODIE 3a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for the Naturalizing of Sir Robert Carre, Knight, one of the Gentlemen of the Prince his Highness's Bedchamber.

Put to the Question, and Assented unto.

Conference with the Commons.

The House being put in Mind of the Conference to be had this Morning with the Commons, the Prince his Highness signified His Majesty's Pleasure, that, at this Conference, the Lords do not conclude any Thing propounded by the Commons, until their Lordships shall first hear again from His Majesty.

Message to the Commons.

The Lords being returned from the Conference with the Commons, and the House being moved, Whether now to enter into Consideration of the Businesses handled at that Conference, or to defer the same until Four in the Afternoon, their Lordships Agreed, to defer the same, and to send a Message to the Commons, by Mr. Justice Winche and Mr. Justice Hutton: videlicet,

That the Lords do intend to sit this Afternoon; and, if the Commons will sit also, it may be, their Lordships shall have Occasion to send unto them.

Bills sent to the H.C.

By the same Messengers, were returned to the Commons Two Bills:

1. An Act for the Punishing of divers Abuses committed on the Lord's Day, called Sunday, with Amendments.

2. The other, An Act to prevent and punish the Abuses in procuring Process of Supersedeas for the Peace, &c. with (fn. 1) an Amendment.

And One Bill was sent down unto them: videlicet,

CAREWE Raleigh (who hath exhibited his Bill to be restored in Blood) did this Day take the Oaths of Supremacy and Allegiance, as by the Statute is required.

Raleigh's Restitution in Blood.

Hodie 3a vice lecta est Billa, An Act for Restitution in Blood of Carewe Raleigh, Son of Sir Walter Raleigh, late attainted of High Treason, and for Confirmation of certain Letters Patents made by His Majesty to the Lord Digbye.

Put to the Question, and Assented unto.

Ld. Mountague's Lands settled for particular Uses.

The Earl of Oxon brought in the Bill for settling the Manors and the Lands of the Lord Viscount Mountague, &c. and reported the same fit for a Third Reading.

The Prince his Highness, the Lord Archbishop of Cant. his Grace, the Lord Treasurer, and divers other Lords, being returned from the Court;

Message from the King concerning Adjournment.

The Lord Treasurer declared unto the House, That the Lords of the Privy Council attended His Majesty this Day. His Majesty takes Notice, that, after this Message signified unto this House, and the Commons also, of His Majesty's Determination to adjourn the Parliament, the Commons prayed a Conference, and thereby a Petition to be made to His Majesty for a longer Continuance of the Parliament; and that their House hath not as yet returned any Answer to the Commons, touching the same; whereof His Majesty takes Notice also; and hath commanded the same to be signified unto the House, with this, That, although His Majesty is willing to hearken to any Petition, which shall be made unto Him by the Parliament, yet a Petition of this Nature cannot be pleasing unto Him; it seeming to be to the Derogation of His Prerogative, who hath the only Power to call, adjourn, and determine Parliaments. Out of Favour to His People, His Majesty hath made Election rather to adjourn the Parliament than to prorogue it; and, therefore, His Majesty adviseth, that a select Number of Bills may be chosen out, which His Majesty may pass, and either make a Session or an Adjournment at His Pleasure, wherein His Majesty will advise with the Judges, whether the Royal Assent by Commission unto some Bills will put an End to a Session, or be but an Adjournment, and so keep all other Bills on Foot in the same Estate as now they are. His Majesty's further Advice is, that the House do husband well the Time; for, on Monday next, He determines to hold His Day, either for the Adjournment or Prorogation of the Parliament. And His Majesty's Pleasure also is, that those Bills which are passed both Houses be sent unto him before-hand; and, for the rest, he will advise of afterwards; and that the Business of Sir John Bennett be hastened.

The Prince his Highness moved, That the Lower House may be acquainted with this His Majesty's Pleasure, signified by the Lord Treasurer, and of His Majesty's Advice to husband the Time well. And that, if they have any Thing now to say unto the King, that they do attend His Majesty on Sunday next.

Message to the Commons.

Message sent to the Commons, by Mr. Serjeant Crewe and Mr. Serjeant Hitcham;

That the Lords desire a Conference with their whole House presently, in the Painted Chamber.

Answer.

Answer,

That they will attend the Conference forthwith.

The Committees of each House upon the Bill against Informers are to meet thereon, after the Conference ended; and the same is to be signified unto the Commons at the Conference.

Sir John Bennet.

The Lords went to the Conference; and, at their Return, it was Ordered, That Sir John Bennett be brought to the Bar To-morrow Morning, at Nine of the Clock.

Croftes's Petition.

Petition of Sir John Croftes, Knight, and Dorothye his Daughter, Wife to Sir John Bennett the Younger, was read; shewing what Lands Sir John Bennett the Elder conveyed for the said Dorothie's Jointure, and what for Payment of his Debts. Humbly desiring, that, if the Lords shall proceed to sentence against Sir John Bennett the Elder, nothing may pass therein to impeach the said Assurances.
