The Messengers sent Yesterday to the House of Commons return with this Answer:
Answer from the H. C.
That they will send an Answer by Messengers of their own.
A Serjeant Major, who left the Army, to attend.
Upon Information to this House, "That a Dutchman, a Serjeant Major to Dulbeir Quarter-master General to the Lord General, is lately come away from the Army:" It is Ordered, That he be summoned to appear before this House forthwith, to give an Account of his coming away from the Army.
Lords added to the Committee of Safety.
Ordered, That the Earl of Lyncolne and the Earl of Stamford shall be added to the Committee for the Safety.
Message to the H. C. to acquaint them with it; and adding Mr. Sedgewick to the Assembly.
A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Rob't Rich and Mr. Page:
To let them know, that, in regard many Lords of the Committee for the Safety of the Kingdom are absent, so as the Affairs of the Kingdom are prejudiced, their Lordships have added the Earls of Lyncolne and Stamford to be of that Committee; and to acquaint them, that their Lordships have nominated Mr. John Sedgwicke to be put in the Place of Mr. Dr. Warde, lately dead, One of the Assembly, wherein their Lordships desire their Concurrence.
Message from thence, that they intend to take the Covenant.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Gilbert Gherrard Baronet, and others:
To let their Lordships know, that the House of Commons intended, and have Resolved, to take the Covenant on Monday Morning next, in St. Margarett's.
The Answer returned was:
Answer.
That this House is now thin; but they will (fn. 1) take it into their Consideration, and think of some convenient Time for the taking of the Covenant.
Adjourn.
