Letters concerning the State of the Lord General's Army.
Divers Letters were read, reported by the Lord Wharton, sent to the Committee of both Kingdoms, from the Lord General, Sir Wm. Waller, Sir Archibald Johnston, and Mr. Crewe, dated the 19th and 20th of October, giving an Account of the State of the Army, and how near the King's Army is to the Lord General.
Then the Lords went to the Abby, to the Fast.
Adjourn.
The House was adjourned till Four of the Clock this Afternoon.

The King advanced to Overton with His Army.
THE Lords being returned from the Celebration of the Fast, the Lord Wharton reported to this House a Letter sent to the Committee of both (fn. 1) Kingdoms, written from Sir Archibald Johnston and Mr. Crewe, dated from Basingstoke, the 21th of October; signifying, That the King was at Overton, with His Army, about Miles from the Lord General at Basing."
Committee of both Kingdoms sent to the Deputy Lieutenants of the adjacent Counties, to draw out their Forces.
The Lord Wharton further acquainted this House, "That the House of Commons were coming up on Monday last, to desire their Lordships Concurrence in a Letter to be sent to the Deputy Lieutenants of several adjacent Counties to London, to desire them that they would draw together all the Trained Bands and Auxiliaries to a Rendezvous, with all Speed, for the Safety of the Kingdom and these Parts; but, in regard this House was risen, the Committee of both (fn. 2) Kingdoms did send it in their Name."
Which this House approved of.
Message from the H. C. with a Letter for that Purpose.
A Message was brought from the House of Commons, by Sir Henry Vane Junior:
To desire their Lordships Concurrence in a Letter, to be sent to the Deputy Lieutenants of several Counties adjacent to these Parts:
The said Letter was read, as followeth:
"Gentlemen,
"Whereas you have received Letters from the Committee of both Kingdoms, of the 21th Instant, to give you Directions to draw all the Forces of your County together, as well Trained Bands, Auxiliaries, as others, for the Security of the Kingdom, upon the Occasion therein expressed; we, having taken into Consideration the great Necessity hereof, do require you to put the said Directions into Execution with all Speed and Diligence, as that which doth import the Safety of the Public in a very high Degree. And so we bid you very heartily Farewelli.
"Your very loving Friends.
"Postscript.
"We desire you forthwith to acquaint the Committee of both Kingdoms with the State and Strength of your Forces; in what Readiness they are, and where and when you rendezvous."
Thanks to the Preachers at the Fast.
Ordered, That Dr. Temple, Mr. Palmer, and Mr. Chambers, shall have Thanks given them from this House, for their great Pains taken in Preaching at the Fast this Day in the Abby Church; and that they be hereby desired to print and publish their Sermons.
