Preachers at the Fast thanked.

Ordered, That Mr. Gilaspie and Mr. Anthony Burges have Thanks returned them, for their Pains in preaching Yesterday before the Lords, in the Abbey Church, it being the Fast-day; and they are desired to print their Sermons.

Preachers for the next.

Ordered, That Dr. Gouge and Dr. Wincupp are desired to preach before the Lords in Parliament, at the Abbey Church in Westm. the next Fast-day.

Staveley & Uxof.

Ordered, That Arthur Stavely shall stand committed to the Prison of The Fleete, there to remain until he submits and performs the Order of this House, made the 20th of February last, for allowing Maintenance to his Wife.

Ordinance for Mr. Grey to be Master of Leicester Hospital.

Next, an Ordinance was presented to the House, for making Job Grey, Clerk, Master of the Hospital of Leycester.

And it being read Thrice, it was approved, and Ordered to be sent to the House of Commons, for their Concurrence.

Message to the H. C. with it; and about some Petitions.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Mr. Serjeant Whitfeild and Mr. Page:

To desire their Concurrence in the Ordinance for making Job Grey Master of Leycester Hospitall.

2. To desire Expedition in the Petition of Captain Turpin's Daughters.

3. To recommend the Petition of Merideth, on the Behalf of the Widow of Major General Crawford, that she may have paid her some of her Husband's Arrears.

4. To desire they would take into Consideration the Petition of Major Greye's Brother.

E. of Warwick to command in the Eastern Association.

Upon Report from the Committee of both Kingdoms: It is Ordered, That, for this Expedition, the Earl of Warwicke shall be appointed to command in Chief such Forces as are, or shall be, now raised in the Eastern Association, or in the adjacent Counties, for their Defence against the King's Forces, or for Prosecution of them.

Letter of Thanks to be wrote to him.

It is further Ordered, That a Letter be written by the Speaker, to give the Earl of Warwicke Thanks, for the Forwardness and good Service in preserving the associated Counties.

1. An Ordinance to pay, out of the Excise, Seven Hundred and Sixty Pounds, upon Accompt, to Major General Browne. (Here enter it.)

2. An Ordinance concerning securing the Sum of Ten Thousand Pounds for the Northern Forces.

4. To desire Expedition in the Ordinance for adding Names to the Committee for the Eastern Association.

The Answer returned was:

That this House will take the Ordinance for the Committees for the Eastern Association, and the Ordinance for selling Delinquents Estates, into Consideration; and send an Answer by Messengers of their own: To all the rest of the Particulars, this House (fn. 1) agrees.

Information against Heath, for inveigling Ld. Fairfax, a Ward, to marry.

The Lord Viscount Say & Seale, Master of the Court of Wards and Liveries, informed this House, "That the young Lord (fn. 2) Fairfaxe, being a Ward, was placed at School at Felsteed, in Essex, and hath lately married himself, being inveigled thereto by John Heath: Therefore it was desired, that the said John Heath may be attached, by the Officer of this House, and brought before this House, that so he may be forthcoming, to put in Security to answer the said Misdemeanor in the Court of Wards, upon Information exhibited against him in that Court."

That this House agrees in this Ordinance.

Order for 760 l. to Major General Browne.

"Whereas, by Ordinance of the 24th July last, Seven Hundred and Sixty Pounds were charged, upon the Receipts of the Excise, to be paid in Course unto Major General Browne, upon Accompt, in Part of the Arrears of his Pay; and whereas the Commissioners of Excise and new Impost have advanced and lent the Sum of Seven Hundred and Sixty Pounds, for the Use aforesaid: Be it Ordained, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That the Commissioners of Excise or new Impost shall and may satisfy and reimburse themselves, and that their Executors, Administrators, or Assigns, shall be satisfied and reimbursed, the said Seven Hundred and Sixty Pounds, together with Interest for the same, after the Rate of Eight Pounds per Cent. for so long Time as the same, or any Part thereof, shall be forborn, out of such Intervals of Receipts, upon the Ordinance 11th Sept. 1643, as shall happen when other Payments already assigned on those Receipts shall not fall due, or, for Want of such Intervals, then as the same shall follow in Course; and that the said Commissioners of Excise shall pay the said Seven Hundred and Sixty Pounds unto the said Major General Browne, or his Assign sufficiently by him authorized thereunto, either of whose Receipt shall be a sufficient Discharge unto the said Commissioners of Excise, and every of them, in that Behalf."

Order for 10,000 l. for the Northern Forces.

"Ordered, by the Lords and Commons, &c. That Ten Thousand Pounds, upon the Ordinance of the 23th of July last past, with Interest for the same, out of the Excise, for the Northern Forces, shall be paid according to the Purport of the said Ordinance; and that no Anticipation shall be made by any subsequent Ordinance, but that it shall be paid in its Course accordingly."

Order for 12,000 l. for the Western Forces under Col. Massey.

"It is this Day Ordained, by the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, That Twelve Thousand Pounds shall be paid in Course, unto the Committee for the West, out of the Receipts of the Excise and new Impost, by Ordinance of the 11th of Sept. 1643, for the Services of the Forces and Garrisons under the Command of Colonel Massey, now in the West; and the Commissioners of Excise and new Impost are hereby authorized to pay the said Sum of Twelve Thousand Pounds accordingly, in due Order and Course, unto the Committee of the West, or to whom they shall appoint to receive the same, next after other Assignments formerly made on those Receipts shall be first satisfied; and the Order of the said Committee shall be a sufficient Discharge unto the said Commissioners of Excise, and every of them, for the Payment of the said Twelve Thousand Pounds."

Ordinance concerning Eaton College.

"Whereas, for divers Years, there hath not been any Election of Scholars in the College of Eaton; and this Year, by reason there was no Provost settled in King's Colledge, in Cambridge, the Time appointed for such Election by the Statutes of the College of Eaton is elapsed: It is therefore Ordained, by the Lords and Commons assembled in Parliament, That there may and shall be an Election of Scholars, in Manner as hath been heretofore accustomed, before the 30th Day of October next following; and that such Election shall be valid, and of Force, as if it had been made in the Time appointed by the said Statute of the said College: And it is further Ordained, by the Authority aforesaid, That all the Rents and Revenues belonging to the College of Eaton, to be received and disbursed for the immediate Use of the said College, shall be freed and discharged of and from all Assessments, Taxes, and Charges whatsoever, as well already made, as hereafter to be made or charged, by virtue of any Ordinance of Parliament."
