383 LLOYD V PRICE

Sir Edward Lloyd of Berth-lwyd, co. Montgomery, knt v Matthew Price of The Park, co. Montgomery, esq

October - November 1638

Abstract

Lloyd complained that between January and March 1638 in Aberhafesp parish, co. Montgomery, Price said in the presence of several gentlemen 'that I was a prodigall squibb knight', which words were provocative of a duel. Dr Duck entered the libel on Lloyd's behalf on 6 November 1638 and on the 20th commissioners to take evidence were due to be nominated; but no further proceedings survive.

Initial proceedings

18/3ga, Libel

1. Lloyd's family had been ancient gentry for up to 300 years.

2. Between January and March 1638 in Aberhafesp parish, co. Montgomery, Price said in the presence of several gentlemen 'that I was a prodigall squibb knight', or words to that effect, which were provocative of a duel.

Dated 6 November 1638.

Signed by Arthur Duck.

Summary of proceedings

Dr Duck was counsel for Lloyd, and Dr Eden for Price. Price was warned to appear on 20 October 1638 and 6 November. On the latter date Dr Duck gave the libel and on 20 November he was to nominate the commissioners, days and place for the commission.
