Officers of Arms v Robert Kirkham of Fineshade Abbey, co. Northampton

September 1637

Abstract

This was a cause of office in which Dr Duck informed Gilbert Dethick that the heralds desired a monition against Kirkham. Kirkham's commissioners, headed by Richard Stacy of Castle Bytham, Lincoln, gent, were required to meet at Uppingham,Rutland. The cause and result of the case remain unclear, but it probably concerned non-payment of fees at the funeral of Walter Kirkham of Fineshade Abbey, esq.

Walter Kirkham of Fineshade Abbey (b.1617) was the son of Robert Kirkham of Fineshade Abbey, and Anne, daughter of Francis Browne of co. Rutland. Walter attended St John's College, Cambridge in 1637 and married Mary, daughter of Sir John Norwich of Brampton, co. Northampton, knt and bart.
