  • 58. Hamo le Barbier, cornmonger [Qu 7], is often associated with Bread St ward and the Hamo le Barbier who occurs as a witness there is usually to be identified with the cornmonger. The taxpayer of BreadSt may be Hamo le Parker, barbier 1311 LBD 160.
  • 59. John de Pampesworth 1321 Cor 36 f. He was a son of Robert de Pampesworth, cordwainer (1277 LBA 16, 1299-1300 Mayors 62, etc.). Robert and Isabel his wife were tenants in West Ham Ess in 1296 (EssFF II, 83). Isabel, widow of Robert, hanged herself in a fit of insanity in her house in St. Mildred. John apparently lived in the same house (Cor 36 f.). - Pampisford Ca.

Gunnora was the widow of Edmund de Stratford, who was a juror for BreadSt in 1275 (RH 424), and William Edmund evidently took his surname from the latter's font-name.

He was presumably the R. le Palmere who was alderman of Castle 1319-23, of Bread St 1324-7, and R. le Palmere 1327 (1330-1) Will (a tenant in St. Mildred). There was an earlier R. le Paumer, apparently a cornmonger, mentioned 1282-3, 1289 LBA 61, 174, 18- Ekwall whose widow was Sibil, late wife of R. le Paumer (1306 Will, of BreadSt). She left to Roger de Coulinges and Dyonisia his wife, her niece, her granary at Henley. R. de Coulinges is identical with R. le Palmere, whose will was enrolled in 1330-1, for the latter mentions his earlier wife Dyonisia and founded chantries for the souls of Roger, Sibil (Roger le Paumer and Sibil his wife), Roger, Dionisia and Beatrice (the testator and his two wives). Roger le Palmere was thus originally R. de Coulinges, and le Palmere will be a master's surname. Coulinges may be Cooling K or Cowlinge Sf. - Cf. no. 34.
