Censorial hearings

Entry Dr G appeared with Sir Peregrine Bartve, who had brought him over from Antwerp. He did not intend to stay in England permanently. He was RC and refused to submit to an examination. There was a row and Dr G offered a recipe of his own (details given). It was decided that Dr G cd not become Collmem, 'because he was a Papist of a kind whom we do not admit', but in case the College might seem 'lacking in courtesy' to a foreigner, and out of respect to Sir Peregrine, he was dismissed with leniency.
