[m 10] proxima recordum	Walter of Essex was attached to answer Alan Raven in a plea of covenant. The pl. complains that whereas William de Grey, kt., was indebted to him to the extent of £ 12. 0. 0, which ought to have been repaid at the last term, he caused to be attached 25 quarters and 6 bushels of rye belonging to the said William ['super predictum Willelmum applicata'] in the port of Billyngesgate. Thereupon the above-named Walter covenanted with the pl., on Tuesday before Christmas, 13 Edward II [18^th December, 1319], to produce the said William here within the quindene to satisfy him for the aforesaid debt, or for the value of the barley attached; but he failed to carry out his covenant to the damage of the pl. 100s. Walter comes and says that he ought not now to answer concerning the said covenant, because he answered for the same at the court held on Tuesday before Christmas last past, and there vouched his 'secta' viz. Elias and John. Afterwards the pl. did not prosecute his suit, and was therefore adjudged, with his pledges, to be in mercy, and the def. to be quit; and thereupon he vouches the record to warranty. A day is given to the def. to produce the record at the next court.
