John de Derby, prior of the secular church of St. Léger in Jobia, in the diocese of Gap, and Isnardus Guasqui canon of Wells and prebendary of Wiveliscombe. Whereas they have resigned their benefices in order to exchange them, verbal papal mandate having been given to that effect to Stephen, bishop of St. Pons de Tomières, they pray the pope to make provision to them of the same.

The abbot and convent of Selby. Signification that at the first foundation of their monastery their woods and preserves with wild beasts assigned to them were contiguous to those of the archbishop of York, the earl of Warrenne, and the lord of Mowbray, so that the religious and those of their servants appointed to take game were illtreated by the said temporal lords and many were killed, and the game driven off, so that dissensions arose, and their woods and preserves will be rendered useless to them unless the pope assists the abbot and monks in restraining these conflicts. They therefore pray for an indult that the abbot with three or four monks, or three monks with the abbot's licence, may be able to be present when the game is taken; the constitution “Ne in agro dominico,” and those of pope Benedict and others, notwithstanding.

John de la Ryvere, knight, lord of the towns of Tormarton and Acton, in the diocese of Worcester, and patron of the parish churches of the same. Signification that he, with consent of Wulfstan, bishop, and the chapter of Worcester, converted the rectory and rector of Tormarton into a wardenship and warden, endowing them, with the king's consent, with two carucates of plough land, and a messuage or manse in the said town, so that there should be the warden, four chaplains, a deacon, a sub-deacon, and three choristers in the said church, with stipends and duties assigned to them, and that afterwards he gave the patronage of Acton to the said warden, and with the bishop's and chapter's consent appropriated it to the same. He therefore prays the pope to confirm the appropriation and endowment, the yearly value of the said churches amounting to 100 marks, and to approve what has been done. Granted. Avignon, Id. Sept.

Whereas he has lately come to the apostolic see on his election by the chapter, although the pope had already made provision of that church, he prays on behalf of Nicholas O'Grada, his ancient servant, of the diocese of Killaloe, the son of a subdeacon, already dispensed so as to be ordained and hold one, and then two benefices, for a further dispensation that he may accept and hold whatever benefices are canonically offered him. Whereas by the sterility of its lands, the destruction of its woods, and the diminution of its rents, as well as by the excessive number of nuns and sisters, it is unable to pay its debts, provide for its subjects, or repair its buildings, and is further reduced by its temporalities having been administered by the king, they pray for the confirmation of the appropriation of the church of Froylle in the diocese of Winchester, made by apostolic authority, and carried out by Adam, bishop of Winchester, but to which his successor William and the archbishop of Canterbury opposed themselves, the bishop sequestrating the income of the benefice.
