The pope gave him a canonry with expectation of a dignity and prebend of Chichester, after which by collation of Simon, late bishop of Ely, he obtained the archdeaconry of Ely, on condition that no one else claimed a right to it, the pope's right being also preserved; and on its being understood that a reservation of the archdeaconry had been made in favour of cardinal de Mota, he resigned it; and whereas he has obtained the treasurership of Chichester, he fears, since some are looking for it, to lose the former grant by having got the archdeaconry. He therefore prays the pope to dispense him so as to hold the treasurership.
