June 1691

June 1st Monday, about 6 at night came cosen Whitley; stayd all night; also Downes of Shrewsbury about Roger's debt & 2 men from Judge Burton came about his & Hooks debenters; they went away before 7; also a man came to fetch Mrs Asbry into Staffordshire; he stayd all night.

2.Tuesday, Mrs Ashbry went early to Staffordshire & Tomkinson to see frends, retorned at 8; [at Minshall] about 2 came 2 cosen Breretons (Ralph & Beardmore) stayd all night; Sefton, [&] Minshall came about 8 about carrying coles; Mainwaring, Bidolph & Roger came past 11; I saw them & went to bed.

3.Wednesday, 2 cosen Breretons dined; & went away past 3: 4.Thursday, after dinner Mainwaring & Bidolph Roger & cosen Whitley went to Utkington; retorned about 9; about 5, 2 men came to settle account: with Huson about Lord River's rent to the King. I dranck a glasse of ale to them & left them with Huson.

5.Friday, cosen Whitley went home about 11; I went to Bromleys about 7; there were Mainwaring Bidolph & Roger; workmen &c.

June 6. Satorday, we stayd at home all day; no company, onely Jackson (late) stayd all night.

7.Sonday, I was not at church, the rest went; Mrs Jackson came about 11; stayd all night.

8.Monday, Sir John Arderne sent his man to visit us; I did not see him; Mainwaring went to Chester past 10; Huson about 12 soe to Dysert & Careluyse (about the Receipte) Tomkinson & the carts went early for coales Mainwaring retorned at 9.

9.Tuesday, Tomkinson & Davyes went to the Receipte at Careluyse,&c. keeper brought venison from Peover.

10.Wednesday, Palin came about 9; went past 11; then came Donald to trimme us & Mr Littleton from Sir John Crew; both dined with us; went about 4 & Jackson; Croxon came past 3, went at 6; Mainwaring & Roger went to the Deane past 4; retorned past 9.

11.Thursday, Nixon went past 4 to Palin, soe to Holt to buy sheep, bought none; Mainwaring went about 7 to Namptwich; Huxley came when we were at dinner, dined with us; I left him past 2; he went past 4; Mainwaring retorned about 10, Tomkinson about 9; Donald brought Roger a periwig, stayd all night.

12.Friday, we stayd at home all day, no company, Huson came past 8.

13.Satorday, Huson & Tomkinson went to Chester about 10; Mainwaring my daughter & children went towards Peover about 11; Tomkinson retorned about 8.

14.Sonday, I was not at church; Bidolph & Charlotte went in the morning; Huson came in the evening, & Morgan retorned from London, about 9.

15.Monday, Tomkinson went to Chester past 10; Morgan & Huson past 11; Tomkinson came back about 7.

16.Tuesday, Tomkinson went to Chester soe to Dysert about 10; Huson after him about 11; Madders & Birket came past 11; about sister Whitley's businesse; they dined (& Frances with them) stayd till 2 when I Charlotte Bidolph & Roger went to Peover, came thither about 6, &c. Morgan also came thither that night.

17.Wednesday, (the fast day) went to church about 11; retorned past 1; dined about 4; Lee of Booth came at dinner tyme; Roger, Mainwaring his sonne, Bradshaw & another (his son in law) came after dinner; went away about 7; Goldsmith came that evening; stayd all night.

18.Thursday, Bellot, Poole, Swetnam, Lawton, Delves, Goldsmith, &c. dined with us; all went past 7 but Goldsmith & Delves; & Roger, daughters, &c. went [to] Dunham, retorned at 9.

19.Friday, about 11 we left Peover; call at Sandwayhead; came to Peele before 4; Mainwaring went immediately towards London;.

20.Satorday, my daughters went (past 10) to Chester; retorned about 8; also Tomkinson from Dysert; Nat. Lee came about 7; stayd all night.

21.Sonday, I went to church in the afternoone soe home; Angell came about 5 to give Charlotte Mainwaring a vomit; stayd all night; Huson came about 8.

22.Monday, Tomkinson went to Shotwick; Angell, Hardwar, Smith, 2 Lee's, &c. dined here; Lee the elder went to Chester about 4; the rest went about 5; Angell about 6; sisters came at same time; Bidolph, Roger & Nat. Lee went to shoote at Kelsall; retorned at 9; Smith at the same time; I left them past 10; payed off the bricklayers, &c. & discharged them, giving them some ale at parting; 23.Tuesday, Kelsey (the minister) dined with us; went about 2; Crew came about 4; stayd 2 houers; Nat. Lee went at same time; Huson went home past 8; Minshall came neare 10.

24.Wednesday, Minshall went about 10; Hall of Shrewsbury came to Roger for money; dined, went past 2. Bidolph & Roger went to shoote, retorned past 9.

June 25. Thursday, Angell, Cook & Brooks (cosen to Major Brooks) dined with us; went after dinner, Angell went about 5; about 2 came Tomkinson's brother stayd all night; Huson came from Chester about 11.

26.Friday, Huson went early to Northop faire; Tomkinson's brother went about 10; a Chester surgeon came to let Charlotte blood; stayd not;.

27.Satorday, Conen came about 11 to borrow money; I gave him a note to Huson at Chester; he went agen before 12; Cadwallader brought venison; I sent Nixon with a piece of it to G.Mainwaring 28.Sonday, I was not at church; 2 Mrs Owens & a yong man came about money Roger owes them, stayd till 1. Morgan & Huson came about 6.

29.Monday, Morgan & Huson went to Shotwick past 8; Houseman to Hope past 10; Angell dined with us; went past 5; Houseman retorned at 9.

30.Tuesday, Lightfoote came about his lease (at 11, went at 12) about 4 came Donald to trimme us (one Ellis with him) also Madders & Birket came about sister Whitley's businesse; stayd with me (in my chamber) from 5 to 7; then they all went to Chester.
