Question

Oct 06 2010, 18:35:44 Division of Property at the time of the Domesday survey

Can someone explain the following: Ralph de Burun had four(manors)in demesne, a fifth was held under him. I understand the first part of this statement but not the second (i.e., a fifth was held under him. What exactly does that mean or, put another way, what was his relationship with the fifth manor?
