Upon the ill Disposition of Health of Sir Orlando Bridgman Knight and Baronet, Chief Justice of the Court of Common Pleas, whereby he was not able this Day to come to this House and perform the Place of Speaker, a Commission signed with His Majesty's Handwriting, and sealed with the Great Seal of England, deputing the Lord Privy Seal to be Speaker, was read, as follows; videlicet,

"Charles the Second, by the Grace of GOD, King of England, Scotland, France, and Ireland, Defender of the Faith, &c. To Our Right Trusty and Wellbeloved Counsellor John Lord Roberts, Keeper of Our Privy Seal, Greeting: Whereas, by Our Letters Patents, bearing Date the Eighteenth Day of this Instant February, We did constitute, name, appoint, and authorize, Our Right Trusty and Right Well-beloved Sir Orlando Bridgman Knight and Baronet, Chief Justice of Our Court of Common Pleas, from Time to Time, during this present Parliament, to supply the Room and Place of Our Right Trusty and Right Well-beloved Cousin and Counsellor Edward Earl of Clarendon, Our Chancellor of England, then and as yet so infirm that he is not able to travel to the Upper House of Parliament at Westminster, nor there to supply the Room in the said Upper House, amongst the Lords Spiritual and Temporal there assembled, as to the Office of the Lord Chancellor of England hath been accustomed: And whereas the said Sir Orlando Bridgman is also become so weak and infirm as he is not able to supply the Room and Place aforesaid: We, minding the same Place and Room to be supplied in all Things as appertaineth, for and during every Time of the Absence of Our said Lord Chancellor, have named and appointed you, and by these Presents do constitute, name, appoint, and authorize you, from Day to Day, and Time to Time, when and so often as the said Lord Chancellor shall happen, at any Time or Times during this present Parliament, to be absent from his accustomed Place in the said Upper House, to occupy, use, and supply, the said Room and Place of the said Lord Chancellor, in the said Upper House, amongst the Lords Spiritual and Temporal there assembled, at every such Day and Time of his Absence; and then and there, at every such Time, to do and execute all such Things as the said Lord Chancellor of England should or might do if he were there personally present, using and supplying the same Room. Wherefore We will and command you, the said John Lord Roberts, to attend the Doing and Execution of the Premises with Effect. And these Our Letters Patents shall be your sufficient Warrant and Discharge for the same in every Behalf. In Witness whereof, We have caused these Our Letters to be made Patents.

Witness Ourself at Westm. the Three and Twentieth Day of February, in the Fifteenth Year of Our Reign.

Message to H. C about Peers Evidences concerning Advowsons, &c.

A Message was sent to the House of Commons, by Sir Thomas Bennet and Sir Will. Child:

To deliver to them the Order made on Saturday last, concerning those Deeds, Evidences, and Writings, belonging to several of the Peers, which were taken from them in the Time of the late Troubles, that they may be delivered into the Possession of the Clerk of the House of Peers, to the End they may be restored to those Lords to whom they properly appertain.

Bill concerning the King's Power in Ecclesiastical Affairs.
