NONCONFORMITY
One woman was a follower of Francis Holcroft in 1685. (fn. 1) In 1728 half the population was said to be dissenters, all but one Baptist being Presbyterians, but they had no meeting house. (fn. 2) In 1825 there was a Baptist meeting house with a licensed teacher, (fn. 3) perhaps that registered for worship in 1839. (fn. 4) There were still three or four dissenting families, probably Baptists, in the late 19th century: 12 people went to services held in a cottage in 1885. (fn. 5)
