SCHEDULE.-PART THE SEVENTH.

Containing

THE DUTIES in respect of certain Medicines, and of Licenses to vend the same; and in respect of Licenses to Hawkers and Pedlars, in the United Kingdom; and in respect of Appraisements and Licenses to Appraisers, and to Pawnbrokers in Great Britain; and the Allowances in respect of the said Duties.



SCHEDULE, PART VII.	DUTY.
APPRAISEMENT or Valuation made in Great Britain of any estate or effects, real or personal, heritable or moveable, or of any interest therein, or of the annual value thereof, or of any dilapidations, or of any repairs required, or of the materials and labour used or to be used in any building, or of any artificers work whatsoever.	£.	s.	d.
Where the amount of such Appraisement or Valuation shall not exceed 50£.	-	2	6
And where it shall exceed 50£. and not exceed 100£.	-	5	-
And where it shall exceed 100£. and not exceed 200£.	-	10	-
And where it shall exceed 200£. and not exceed 500£.	-	15	-
And where it shall exceed 500£.	1	-	-
Exemptions:
APPRAISEMENTS or Valuations made in pursuance of the Order of any Court of Admiralty or Vice-Admiralty, or of any Court of Appeal from any sentence, adjudication or judgment of any Court of Admiralty or Vice-Admiralty.
APPRAISEMENTS or Valuations incident to any judicial proceedings, or to legal diligence or execution in Scotland.
APPRAISEMENTS or Valuations of any property made for the purpose of ascertaining the Stamp Duty payable on any Probate or Letters of Administration in England, or on any Inventory of the personal or moveable Estate of any person deceased in Scotland, or the Legacy Duty payable in respect of such property.

LICENSES, viz.-
LICENSE to be taken out yearly by every person (not being a licensed Auctioneer) who shall use or exercise the calling or occupation of an Appraiser in Great Britain, or shall, in expectation of any gain, fee or reward, make any Appraisement or Valuation hereinbefore charged with a Stamp Duty	-	10	-
LICENSE to be taken out yearly by every person who shall use or exercise the trade or calling of a Hawker or Pedlar;
In Great Britain	4	-	-
In Ireland	2	2	-
And for and in respect of every horse, ass, mule or other beast bearing or drawing burthen, which such Hawker or Pedlar shall travel with, or shall use or cause to be used for the purpose of carrying or drawing his goods, wares or merchandize, the further yearly Duty,
In Great Britain, of	4	-	-
In Ireland, of	2	2	-
LICENSE to be taken out yearly by every owner, proprietor, maker or compounder of any medicine or composition whatsoever, in respect of which any Stamp Duty is payable; and also by every person who shall utter, vend or expose, or keep for sale any such medicine or composition as aforesaid, within the city of London or of Westminster, or within the limits of the Twopenny Post there, or within the city of Dublin or of Edinburgh; for every such License	2	-	-
Within any other city or borough, or in any town corporate in the United Kingdom, or in the towns of Manchester, Birmingham or Sheffield; for every such License	-	10	-
In any other part of the United Kingdom; for every such License	-	5	-
LICENSE to be taken out yearly for using or exercising the trade or business of a Pawnbroker within the city of London or the city of Westminster, or within the limits of the Twopenny Post there; for every such License	15	-	-
And for using or exercising the trade or business of a Pawnbroker elsewhere in Great Britain; for every such License	7	10	-
MEDICINES-For and upon every packet, box, bottle, pot, phial or other inclosure containing any of the medicines or compositions hereinafter mentioned and specified, made, prepared, uttered, vended or exposed or kept for sale in any part of the United Kingdom:
Where such packet, box, bottle, pot, phial or other inclosure, with its contents, shall not exceed the price or value of One shilling	-	-	1½
Where the same shall exceed the price or value of One shilling, and shall not exceed the price or value of Two shillings and sixpence	-	-	3
Where the same shall exceed the price or value of Two shillings and sixpence, and shall not exceed the price or value of Four shillings	-	-	6
Where the same shall exceed the price of value of Four shillings, and shall not exceed the price or value of Ten shillings	-	1	-

And all pills, powders, lozenges, tinctures, potions, cordials, electuaries, plasters, unguents, salves, ointments, drops, lotions, oils, spirits, medicated herbs and waters, chemical and officinal preparations whatsoever, to be used or applied externally or internally as medicines or medicaments for the prevention, cure or relief of any disorder or complaint incident to, or in anywise affecting the human body, made, prepared, uttered, vended or exposed, or kept for sale in any part of the United Kingdom by any person, although not specified in the foregoing List, but relating to which any person making, preparing, uttering, vending, or exposing or keeping for sale the same, hath or claims to have any occult secret or art for making or preparing the same, or which have at any time heretofore been, now are, or shall hereafter be prepared, uttered, vended or exposed, or kept for sale under the authority of any Letters Patent under the Great Seal, or which have at any time heretofore been, now are, or shall hereafter be, held out or recommended to the public by the makers, vendors or proprietors thereof, as nostrums or proprietary medicines, or as specifics, or as beneficial to the prevention, cure or relief of any distemper, malady, ailment, disorder or complaint incident to or in any manner affecting the human body, by means of any public notice or advertisement or placard, or by any written or printed paper or handbill, or by any label or words written or printed or affixed on or to, or delivered with any packet, box, bottle, pot, phial, or other inclosure containing the same.

Exemption:

All Medicinal Drugs not specified in the foregoing List, which shall be uttered or vended entire, without any mixture or composition with any other Drug or ingredient whatsoever, by any Surgeon, Apothecary, Chemist or Druggist, having served a regular Apprenticeship, or by any person having served as a Surgeon in the Navy or Army under any Commission or Appointment duly entered at the War Office, or Navy Office, or by any other person whatsoever licensed to sell any of the Medicines chargeable with a Stamp Duty.

ALLOWANCES in respect of the foregoing DUTIES.

TO every person who at one and the same time shall produce at the Head Office for Stamps in Westminster paper or parchment to be stamped for appraisements with Stamp Duty to the amount in the whole of 30£. or upwards, or shall buy of the Commissioners of Stamps in Westminster paper or parchment stamped as aforesaid with Stamp Duty to the amount in the whole of 30£. or upwards, the sum of 1£. 10s. for every 100£. of such Stamp Duty; and so in proportion for any greater or less sum than 100£. not under 30£.; provided that no allowance shall be made for any fractional part of 5£.

TO every person who at one and the same time shall buy of the said Commissioners in Westminster or Dublin respectively stamped Labels for Medicines, the Duty whereon shall amount to 5£. or upwards, 5£. for every 100£.; and so in proportion for any greater or less sum not under 5£.

TO every person who at one and the same time shall buy of the said Commissioners in Westminster or Dublin respectively stamped Labels for Medicines, the Duty whereon shall amount to 50£. or upwards, 10£. for every 100£.; and so in proportion for any greater or less sum not under 50£.

TO every person who at one and the same time shall buy of the said Commissioners in Westminster or Dublin respectively stamped Labels for Medicines, the Duty whereon shall amount to 100£. or upwards, 12£. 10s. for every 100£.; and so in proportion for any greater or less sum not under 100£.
