April 3. Westminster. |
To John de Colby, escheator in co. Norfolk. Order not to intermeddle
further with the manor of Hempstede with the market, restoring the issues
thereof, as the king has learned by inquisition taken by the escheator that

in chancery and has submitted, and Thomas de Brembre, clerk, and John
de Wesenham, merchant, have mainperned in chancery to have him before

To Peter de Boxstede, escheator in Essex. Order not to intermeddle

in dower or otherwise for life, although the tenants should hold in chief
as of the crown or otherwise, and it is found by an inquisition taken by
Humphrey de Walden, late escheator in that county, after the death of
Thomas de Verdon, that he held the said messuage and land at his death,
for life of the inheritance of John son and heir of Margaret late the wife of
John Tibet, one of the sisters and heirs of Giles de Badelesmere, tenant in

cessation and withdrawal of those rents, as the king granted to Henry de
Ingelby, his clerk, the custody of the said house with all the rents etc.
pertaining thereto, to hold for life, and now the king has learned that
divers rents assigned to the conversi for their maintenance and for the
augmentation of the Christian faith in that city, by his progenitors, are
wilfully withdrawn by the tenants of the tenements from which the rents
arise, and that some of them refuse to pay those rents and the arrears
thereof in contempt of the king; especially as those rents ought to revert to

hand the lands which William Barde of Osgodby held as of the honour of

as the king has learned by inquisition taken by the escheator that William
at his death held certain lands in Osgodby in chief as of the said honour, in
the king's hands, by knight's service, and he held lands of others by divers
services, and that Robert Barde, son of Thomas Barde, William's son, is

honour of Albemarl, at his death, held the said messuage and land in his
demesne as of fee of the prior, by knight's service. |

death by John Lovekyn, then mayor of that city and escheator there, it is
found that John at his death held a rent of 100 marks which the king
granted to him and to the heirs male of his body, to be received yearly, to
wit, 50l. of Queenhithe (de Ripa Regine) of that city, and 25 marks of the

Surrey, held for life, and on 26 November in that year the king granted to
him the castle and manor of Okham, co. Rutland, and the shrievalty of
Rutland, which Hugh de Audele, earl of Gloucester, and Margaret his wife
held for life, with reversion to William, to the value of 519l. 3s. 6½d. yearly,
