March 16.
Westminster.
To the sheriff of Nottingham. Order to cause a verderer for Shirewod forest to be elected in place of Alan Stuffyn, deceased.
To the same. Order to cause a verderer for Shirewod forest to be elected in place of William Trussebut, knight, who is supplying the place in that forest of Ralph de Nevill, keeper of the Forest beyond Trent, wherefore he cannot exercise the duties of the office of verderer.

Croydon.
To Peter de Boxstede, escheator in cos. Essex and Hertford. Order to cause John son and heir of Robert Bourghcher, knight, tenant in chief, to have seisin of all the lands whereof his father was seised at his death, in his demesne as of fee in that bailiwick, as John has proved his age before the escheator and the king has taken his homage for all the lands which his father held in chief and has rendered them to him. To the sheriff of Wilts. Order to pay to William de Monte Acuto, earl of Salisbury, son and heir of William de Monte Acuto, earl of Salisbury, whose homage the king took on 11 July last, 10l. for Michaelmas term last, and to pay him 20l. henceforth yearly, in accordance with the king's grant to the late earl on 16 March in the 11th year of the reign of 20l. to be received yearly of the issues of that county.
April 3.
Westminster.
To John de Colby, escheator in co. Norfolk. Order not to intermeddle further with the manor of Hempstede with the market, restoring the issues thereof, as the king has learned by inquisition taken by the escheator that John de Ormesby, knight, at his death held no lands in chief in that bailiwick, but that he held the said manor and market for life of the inheritance of William Caly of Thomas Bacoun by the service of 12d. yearly.
April 4.
Westminster.
To the sheriff of Worcester. Order to cause a coroner for that county to be elected in place of John Ayllewyn, deceased.
To the sheriff of Hereford. Order to cause a coroner for that county to be elected in place of John de Weston, who is insufficiently qualified.

Westminster.
To W. archbishop of York. Order to cause all the goods and chattels of Master Simon de Brisele, clerk, sequestrated by the archbishop for certain contempts, trespasses and excesses, and taken into the king's hand, to be released from that sequestration without delay and restored to him by a mainprise, as although the king ordered the archbishop to cause all Simon's goods in his benefices in that diocese to be so taken, yet Simon has appeared in chancery and has submitted, and Thomas de Brembre, clerk, and John de Wesenham, merchant, have mainperned in chancery to have him before the king on the day when the writ to take him is returnable, to answer for the said contempts, etc., to do and receive what the king's court shall determine, and that he will faithfully fulfil what he has promised before the king to do By K.

To Peter de Boxstede, escheator in Essex. Order not to intermeddle further with a messuage and 80 acres of land in Canedon in the manor of Little Stanbrugge, restoring the issues thereof, as among other things the king granted that Queen Philippa should have the custody of all the lands which are held of her in all lands and fees granted to her by the king in dower or otherwise for life, although the tenants should hold in chief as of the crown or otherwise, and it is found by an inquisition taken by Humphrey de Walden, late escheator in that county, after the death of Thomas de Verdon, that he held the said messuage and land at his death, for life of the inheritance of John son and heir of Margaret late the wife of John Tibet, one of the sisters and heirs of Giles de Badelesmere, tenant in chief, a minor in the king's wardship, and that they are held of the queen as of the honour of Reghleye by knight's service.

To the mayor and sheriffs of London. Writ of aid in favour of the warden of the house of the conversi, London, and of those whom he shall depute for this to collect the rents, services and all other things pertaining to that house with the arrears thereof, and to appoint ministers for this if they cannot do it themselves, so that the king may not suffer injury by the cessation and withdrawal of those rents, as the king granted to Henry de Ingelby, his clerk, the custody of the said house with all the rents etc. pertaining thereto, to hold for life, and now the king has learned that divers rents assigned to the conversi for their maintenance and for the augmentation of the Christian faith in that city, by his progenitors, are wilfully withdrawn by the tenants of the tenements from which the rents arise, and that some of them refuse to pay those rents and the arrears thereof in contempt of the king; especially as those rents ought to revert to him after the death of the conversi.

To the collectors in the port of Boston of 2s. the sack and 6d. the pound on merchandise brought into England and taken thence. Order to supersede the exaction of 6d. a pound on the merchandise brought into England in four ships called 'cogges' of Almain, to be taken thence, as the king, for certain causes shown before him and the council, wishes to show favour to Lubert de Warnethorp, Bertold de Alen', Henry Rode, Walter de Risle and John Dulmen, masters of those ships, which lately came to that port with oil, 'stokfissh' and other merchandise of Norway, and unladed that merchandise there. To the treasurer and barons of the exchequer. Order to receive from the prior of Tuttebury, an alien, 40s. for which he has made fine with the king for the subsidy granted by the alien religious in the 21st year of the reign, and to discharge him of that subsidy.
April 13.
Westminster.
To Gerard Salvayn, escheator in co. York. Order to retain in the king's hand the lands which William Barde of Osgodby held as of the honour of Albemarle, until further order, and not to intermeddle further with the lands which are held of others than the king, restoring the issues thereof, as the king has learned by inquisition taken by the escheator that William at his death held certain lands in Osgodby in chief as of the said honour, in the king's hands, by knight's service, and he held lands of others by divers services, and that Robert Barde, son of Thomas Barde, William's son, is his next heir and aged thirteen years and more.

To Peter de Grymesby, escheator in the liberty of Holderness. Order not to intermeddle further with a messuage and 4 bovates of land in Dodyngton, restoring the issues thereof to the prior of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem in England, as the king has learned by inquisition taken by the escheator that John le Conestable of Halsham, tenant in chief, as of the honour of Albemarl, at his death, held the said messuage and land in his demesne as of fee of the prior, by knight's service.

To the chancellor of the university of Oxford and to the mayor and bailiffs of that town. Order to pay to Richard Lengleis, the king's yeoman, what is in arrear to him of 100s. from 25 November last, and to pay him 100s. yearly henceforth, as on the said day the king granted to him 10l. to be received yearly for life, to wit, 100s. by the hands of the sheriff of Oxford in Oxford castle, and 100s. by the hands of the bailiffs of Oxford of the assize of bread and ale in that town, in recompence for 10l. which he used to receive yearly at the exchequer. Et erat patens.
March 19.
Westminster.
To the sheriffs of London for the present or the future. Order to deliver to Margaret, late the wife of John de Pulteneye, a third part of 100 marks rent in that city for her dower, and the remaining two parts as nearest to John's heir, for his use yearly, as by an inquisition taken after John's death by John Lovekyn, then mayor of that city and escheator there, it is found that John at his death held a rent of 100 marks which the king granted to him and to the heirs male of his body, to be received yearly, to wit, 50l. of Queenhithe (de Ripa Regine) of that city, and 25 marks of the ferm of the city, and that William, John's son, is his next heir, and aged nine years and more. Et erat patens.
March 27.
Westminster.
To Walter de Chiriton and his fellows, the king's merchants, fermors of the customs and subsidies in all the ports of the realm, and to their mainpernors or their attorneys in the port of London. Order to pay to William de Bohun, earl of Northampton, or to his attorney, 90l. 8s. 2¾d. for Easter term, as the king granted to the earl 400l. in that port, 150l. in the port of Boston and 150l. in the port of Kyngeston upon Hull, to be received yearly for himself and the heirs male of his body until certain lands, which others then held for life, should revert to him, and on 26 July in the 21st year of the reign, the king granted to him the castle, manor and town of Staunford and the town of Grantham, which John de Warenna, earl of Surrey, held for life, and on 26 November in that year the king granted to him the castle and manor of Okham, co. Rutland, and the shrievalty of Rutland, which Hugh de Audele, earl of Gloucester, and Margaret his wife held for life, with reversion to William, to the value of 519l. 3s. 6½d. yearly, and the king has granted that William shall receive the remaining 180l. 16s. 5½d. of the issues of the customs in the port of London.
To the sheriffs of London. Order to pay to William be Bohun, earl of Northampton, or to his attorney, 100l. for Easter term, in accordance with the king's grant to him and to the heirs male of his body of 200l. to be received yearly of the ferm or issues of London, until certain lands, which others hold for life, revert to him.
The like to the sheriff of Essex to pay 50l. to the earl for the said term.
To the sheriff of Northampton. Order to pay 10l. to the said earl or to his attorney for Easter term, in accordance with the king's grant to him of 20l. to be received yearly of the ferm or issues of that county.
