Blatherwycke.
To the sheriff of Hertford. Order to supersede the execution of the writ de judicio and the taking of William Brien, chaplain, by a mainprise, as he has besought the king to have compassion on him, as he was impleaded under the name of William Brien of London, spicer, in the king's court before the justices of the Bench, to render account to Hugh fitz Simond, knight, for the time when he was receiver of his moneys, and because he did not come before the justices to answer Hugh, he was put in exigent in that county to be outlawed by a writ de judicio returnable on the octaves of the Purification next, it is said, and he has found in chancery Peter Van, John de Weston, John Flaun, and Robert de Hatfeld, citizens of London, who have mainperned upon pain of 40l. to have him before the justices on the said day to answer Hugh for that account, and further to do and receive what the king's court shall determine. Brother William, abbot of Stratford, acknowledges for himself and convent that they owe to David de Wollore, clerk, Henry de Ingelby, clerk, and Thomas de Neuby, clerk, 100 marks; to be levied, in default of payment, of their lands and chattels and ecclesiastical goods in Essex.

John Sampson of Huggeleye acknowledges that he owes to John de Brutewell 80 marks; to be levied, in default of payment, of his lands and chattels in co. Buckingham.

John de Sancto Philberto, knight, acknowledges that he owes to John Bonet, citizen of London, 120l.; to be levied etc. in Berks.

Brother Walter de Bassyngbourn, master of the hospital of St. Bartholomew, Smethefeld, London, acknowledges that he owes to William de Rodyngton of Leicester 40l.; to be levied etc. in Middlesex.
Cancelled on payment.
Memorandum that the said master brought 20l. of that sum into chancery at Westminster and because William did not come when called, the said 20l. were delivered by David de Wollore, keeper of the chancery rolls, to Thomas de Sibthorp, clerk, to be kept for William's use.

Reginald Pirpount acknowledges that he owes to Richard de Thoresby 7l. 6s. 8d.; to be levied etc. in Suffolk.

Thomas Rocheford of Ledenrothyng acknowledges that he owes to John de Fifhyde, citizen and mercer of London, 20l.; to be levied etc. in Essex.

Robert de Assheby, abbot of Lilleshull, diocese of Coventry and Lichfield, acknowledges for himself and convent that they owe to David de Wolloure, clerk, 100s.; to be levied, in default of payment, of their lands and chattels and ecclesiastical goods in Salop.

Sandwich.
To the treasurer and barons of the exchequer. Order to supersede until further order the exaction made upon the prior and convent of Lewes for their ferm, as they have granted to the king certain advowsons of churches of their priory, whereof the tax extends to 200 marks yearly, to be appropriated to the new chapel of St. Stephen in the palace of Westminster and to the dean and canons of the same, so that the prior and convent may be quit in future from all ferms, fines and subsidies exacted of them by reason of war with France, and may be considered as denizen, and because the said affair cannot be finally despatched without great deliberation, the king wishes to show favour to the prior and convent in the meantime.
