To the sheriffs of London. Order to set free John Compton of Bristol 'mercer' imprisoned in Neugate prison; as at his mother's petition the king granted to Alice wife of John More, who by reason of a judgment against him rendered forfeited all his lands, goods and debts, the debts then due to her husband, to the end she might pay what he owed, and might have the residue (if any) for her maintenance and maintenance of her husband and children without rendering aught to the king, by writ ordering the sheriffs to deliver to her any such debts before them recovered; and the sheriffs certified that long before they received that writ the said John Cumpton was committed to prison for 18l. 10s. 4d. which at a court holden before John Organ one of the sheriffs on Wednesday after Michaelmas last he acknowledged that he owed to the said John More upon a plea of debt on a plaint by the said Alice in her husband's name for certain contracts between the parties long before the said judgment, as by her counting she averred; and after she came before the sheriffs craving his deliverance, and averring that he had contented her of all that debt, and the sheriffs have deferred to set him free for that they were not fully informed whether they ought to do so or no.

John Glemesford citizen and draper of London of the one part and Thomas Panton goldsmith, Thomas Bircho jeweller, Richard Willesdoun chandler, William Wangeford draper, John Claveryng draper citizens of London, William de Berghe, Thomas Hundene and Richard Donemowe clerks, feoffees by charter of William Kynge citizen and draper of London, enrolled in the husting of London on Monday before the Conversion of St. Paul 9 Richard II, of all his lands, houses, shops, solars, cellars etc. in 'Watlyngstrete' in the parish of St. Mary Aldermarychirch in 'Cordewanerstrete' ward London, sometime of William Stamelden citizen and goldsmith of London and of Alice his wife daughter and heir of John Paas citizen of London, of the other part. Indenture witnessing a grant to the said feoffees, their heirs and assigns, of a yearly rent of 40s., to be taken of John Glemesford's lands etc. in Glemesford co. Suffolk, with condition for defeasance thereof in case Alice now wife of the said William Kynge shall not survive her husband, or shall not recover against them or receive dower of the premises in Watlyngstrete or parcel thereof; and covenant that after her death the said feoffees shall make a release of the said rent. John Littelbery knight to John de Marcheford parson of Swynesheved, Thomas Clamund (Claymund) of Hale, Randolph Bolle of Swynesheved, John Sirik of Biker and Richard Wolmer, their heirs and assigns. Quitclaim with warranty of all the lands, rents and reversions in Holbeche which the said parson and the others have by feoffment of John de Meres of Kirketon in Holand, Richard de Welby of Multon and Richard de la Launde of Gosberkirk. William Mareschall of the city of Winchester and Elizabeth his wife to the king and Isabel de Foxe, and to the king's heirs and assigns. Quitclaim of all right by reason of the said Elizabeth's dower after the death of William Dauvers her husband in the manor of Benham Lovell by Hamstede Mareschall, and in all other lands, rents, reversions and services in Berkshire which ever were of her said husband. Witnesses: Richard Abburbury, John Kentewode knights, Henry Almayn, William atte Wode, Richard Brouns. Dated Thursday in Easter week 8 Richard II.
Memorandum of acknowledgment by William Mareschalle at Ingelfeld this year on Friday before St. Thomas the Apostle last before William atte Wode, by virtue of a dedimus potestatem which is on the file for this year.
