Jan. 11.
Westminster.
To the collectors in the port of London for the time being of the custom and subsidy upon wool, hides and woolfells. Order to pay to Peter van Busshe of Ghent 50 marks a year and the arrears since 24 December 9 Richard II, on which date the king granted him for life, until the king shall take other order for his estate, 50 marks a year of the said custom and subsidy for his good service, and for that he lost all his goods in Ghent by reason of such service.
Jan. 23.
Westminster.
To the mayor and bailiffs of Sandewich, and the collectors of customs and subsidies in that port. Order, in view of the king's affection toward the king of Portugal and in consideration of their loss, without taking custom or subsidy to suffer John Domyngo, John Gunsales, Vasco Laurence and other the merchants and seamen of a ship called the 'Seint Nicholas' of the city of Port in Portugal to lade in ships to be by them purveyed the part of their hides, leather and other merchandise which is salved, and to send it over to Middelburgh, disposing thereof as they are minded to do; as their complaint shews that the said ship was wrecked at Kyngesdoune by Dovorre, and more than eight parts of their merchandise was lost, and the remainder damaged by sea water, wherefore instant prayer is made to the king to pardon them the custom and subsidy upon the part salved, granting them licence to lade the same in other ships and send it over to Middelburgh.
