To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Order to view letters patent whereby the king has pardoned Philip de Albertis merchant, an alien, divers impeachments etc. to the king pertaining for which he is impeached before them, and not to trouble the said merchant, staying until the feast of St. Martin next any processes against him in the exchequer by reason thereof or of any other impeachments, that in the mean time he may come to the king's presence for furtherance of business with which the king is minded to charge him. To John Prendergest. Order to give William Bromshelfe esquire livery of Cauce castle, with the armour, artillery, victuals, and all other property thereto pertaining which are in keeping of the said John, to be by the said William safe kept until further order. By K.

To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Writ of supersedeas until the quinzaine of St. Hilary next, for particular causes laid before the king and council, in respect of levying 20l. which Ivo Fitz Waryn knight is bound yearly to render at the exchequer for the ward of the castle and manor of Whityngton, not troubling him in the mean time for non-payment. Lichfield.
To William de Calthorp knight and Henry de Notyngham. Order, upon petition of Otho Bere master of a ship called the 'Marieknyght' of Pomereyn and John Schademan of Pomereyn merchant, if the said ship and the goods and merchandise therein are in the keeping of the said William and Henry, to make restitution thereof, or of the price or value thereof if they exist not; as the said petition shews that the petitioners laded that ship in foreign parts with divers goods etc., that on the voyage it was taken at sea by certain lieges of Norffolk and brought to the port of Burnham co. Norffolk, and that ship and merchandise are come to the hands of the said William and Henry. By K.

To the clerk of the market for the time being. Order to suffer the burgesses of Norhampton, their heirs and successors, to use and enjoy all the liberties hereinafter mentioned, as they ought to do, and as they and their ancestors have been used to do since the date of a charter, whereby the late king granted that they should have cognisance of all pleas of assizes and others whatsoever within that town and the suburb thereof arising, to be holden before the mayor and bailiffs for the time being in the gihald of the town, that the mayor for the time being should have the assize of bread, wine and ale in the town and surburbs, and the correction and punishment thereof, with the fines, amercements and profits thereof arising to the use of the commonalty of the town and suburbs, the keeping of the assize and assay, and the oversight of measures and weights there whether the king were present or absent, so that he should survey the same, burn and destroy such as were false, cause such as were lawful and just to be marked, and chastise them that he should find trespassers herein so often as need should be whether the king were absent or present, that whether the king were present or absent the mayor should have power of inquisition and cognisance of forestallers and regrators, of flesh and fish rotten, bad or otherwise unfit for food there, of inflicting due punishment thereupon, and governance, correction and punishment of the premises with the fines, forfeitures, amercements and profits thereof arising, to the use aforesaid, so that no clerk of the market or other minister of that king or of his heirs should in the said town or suburbs meddle in the premises or in aught that belongs to the office of clerk of the market.
To the abbot of Sybeton, collector in the archdeaconries of Suffolk and Sudbury of the tenth last granted to the king by the clergy of the province of Canterbury. [Incomplete entry, mentioning] a grant to Queen Joan of 3,000l. of the first moneys of that tenth arising, dated 18 July last.

To Richard de Aston, lieutenant of John earl of Somerset captain of Calais. Order to give John Lardener the king's esquire livery by indentures of the castle of Oye, to be by him kept to the king's use, notwithstanding the king's late writ ordering William Caston his esquire to give the said Richard livery by indentures of that castle, which was lately committed to the said William's keeping. To Richard Sadgreve, one of the barons of the exchequer in Ireland. Order to meddle no further in that office; as for particular causes moving the king and the council of England the king has discharged the said Richard thereof.

To the mayor and bailiffs of the city of Coventre. Order to take down from the walls the head of a friar of the order of friars minors, lately set up thereupon by command of the king, and deliver it for burial to the friars of that order. By K.

Westminster.
To the sheriff of Kent for the time being. Order to pay to John Harleston knight 100 marks a year for life, and the arrears since 24 October 1 Henry IV, on which date the king confirmed letters patent, whereby the late king granted to the said John 100 marks a year of the issues of that county for life or until that king should make him provision of 100 marks a year of land or rent for life. To Hugh Hanworth clerk. Order not to meddle in the guardianship of the temporalities of the bishopric of Winchester, which is void, although the king lately committed the same to him and to John Pelham knight, Thomas Chaucer and John Lidyngton clerk so long as the temporalities should remain in the king's hand, so that they should answer at the king's chamber or elsewhere, as he should appoint, for the issues and profits thereof arising in the mean time; as for particular causes the king has discharged the said Hugh.

Coventry.
To Robert de Teye esquire. Order, for arduous and urgent causes, upon his allegiance and under pain of forfeiture, not to repair to any foreign parts without special licence of the king by word of mouth; as the king has information that, contrary to the proclamations and prohibitions ofttimes made throughout the realm, the said Robert is purposing shortly to pass out of the realm, and absent himself no small time.
Oct. 20.
Coventry.
To the collectors or receivers of customs and subsidies in the port of St. Botolphs town. Order to pay 1,000l. to Queen Joan or her deputies, the reservation and assignment of the customs and subsidies in that port to the king and his chamber notwithstanding; as by letters patent of 18 July last the king granted her for Easter term last 1,000l. thereof, in part payment of arrears of an annuity of 10,000 marks to her granted in name of dowry.

Coventry.
To the sheriff of Oxford and Berkshire. Order at his peril to put brother Thomas Witteneye, a monk of the abbey of Rewley of the Cistercian order, which is of the patronage of Henry prince of Wales, in possession of that abbey with the members thereof, and of all goods and chattels which the sheriff may be assured that brother John Chiselempton of the said order or other his accomplices, favourers or servants found therein; as upon the late vacancy of the said abbey, as the king has learned, brother Thomas obtained the same with concurrence of those by law required, according to the rule of that order and ordinance of the general chapter, and continued his possession until despoiled and thrust out by brother John, who intruded therein by authority, force and aid of brother John Scardeburgh pretending to be abbot of Geroldon and to have power to advance brother John to be abbot thereof, which he had not, and has no small time unlawfully occupied the abbey and the members thereof with the goods and chattels therein found; and long ago brother Thomas and brother John did promise the prince to produce all such evidences touching the right and possession of the abbey as they and either of them had, and the prince issued a commission to Thomas archbishop of Canterbury and Edmund bishop of Exeter to view such evidences and make such declaration thereupon as to them should seem good; and they did view the same, and made declaration in favour of brother Thomas, that he was unlawfully thrust out, and ought to be restored to his possession of the abbey; and in consideration of the premises, being aware that divine services etc. have for this cause been withdrawn no small time, the king's will is that the said declaration shall take effect.

Westminster.
To the sheriffs of London for the time being. Order to pay to the queen 100l. a year for life and the arrears since 9 September 4 Henry IV; as by letters patent of 8 March in that year the king granted her 10,000 marks a year at the exchequer for life or until he should make her provision for life in name of dowry or otherwise of lands, rents or other possessions to that yearly value; and on 9 September following the king gave her in part thereof the manor of Haverynge atte Boure, the herbage and pannage there, and an annuity of 100l. to be taken of the farm of Queenhithe (Ripe Regine) and of the farm and issues of the city of London.

Coventry.
To Robert Poyns escheator in Gloucestershire. Order to take the fealty of Elizabeth who was wife of Edward le Despenser, and to give her livery of two thirds of the manor of Whityngton and the advowson of two thirds of the church there, and the issues thereof taken; as the king has learned by inquisition, taken by the escheator, that by virtue of a fine levied in the late king's court Alice who was wife of William Barndhurst at her death held the two thirds aforesaid for life, with remainder to the said Elizabeth for life, and that the said manor and advowson are held in chief by knight service.

Coventry.
To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Order to take the oath of Richard Redman sheriff of York, and in his account to make him allowance of so much as they may be assured that he has paid and spent up to 5 marks 6s. 8d.; as by command of the king he lately caused the head and quarters of Richard Tighler, a traitor adjudged to die at Pontefract, to be carried to divers places within the realm according to the judgment against him rendered, and caused William Serle, likewise a traitor, to be brought from the city of York to Pontefract and elsewhere within that county, spending thereupon the sum aforesaid, as he avers. To John Caston the king's esquire. Order to give Richard de Aston the king's knight, lieutenant of John earl of Somerset captain of Calais, livery by indentures of the castle of Oye to keep to the king's use, which was lately committed on the king's behalf to the keeping of John Caston.

Coventry.
To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Order not to trouble John Cressy the elder, son of Maud daughter of Joan daughter of Hugh father of Henry father of Hugh Mortymer knight and cousin and heir of the said knight, for his homage, releasing any distress upon him made; as the king lately took the fealty of the said John, and for a fine paid in the hanaper respited his homage until a day now past, commanding livery to be given him of the said Hugh's lands; and now the king has taken his homage. To the farmer of the lordship of Eltham. Order to pay to Baldwin Berford knight the arrears of his wages, which by grant of the king he ought to take by the said farmer's hands, any proclamation to the contrary notwithstanding. By K.

Coventry.
To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Order of the farms, issues, fines and amercements of Warwickshire and Leycestershire for the last year to allow John Blaket the king's esquire, late sheriff, in his account 50l. in full of 50l. in arrear to him of an annuity of 40l. for life which he takes at the exchequer as he says, any ordinance or proclamation to the contrary notwithstanding.
