Joan Despayne otherwise Sotheray to John Prophete and Thomas Felde clerks and to the heirs and assigns of the said Thomas. Charter indented of demise and surrender, for a rent of 40 marks to her payable for life in the parish church of Upmynstre, of her estate for life in the manor of Gaynes in Upmynstre, and in a messuage (sic), 100 acres of land, 10 acres of meadow and 40 acres of pasture called Godehous in Upmynstre co. Essex which she has by their grant, as contained in a fine levied in the king's court between the said John and Thomas plaintiffs and the said Joan and Roger Deyncourt defendants; and covenant that if she or her attorney be not present in the church to receive that rent, or the said John and Thomas be not requested to pay it, they and the heirs or assigns of the said Thomas or the executors of John and Thomas may pay it to the rector there or to the churchwardens in her name, and that if it be forty days in arrear she may enter again and hold the premises in her first estate, rendering to them after such entry 100s. a year, with proviso that she be not bound to pay it until contented of her arrears, with damages and costs, and shall not be bound after such entry to repair the houses of the said manor and messuages (sic), and covenant that if they shall be troubled or prejudiced by any recognisance by her made in any court, or any bond, recognisance of statute merchant or of the staple, or by other charge whatsoever, or made by John Curson, William Sautre, William Felmersham, John Mary, James Billyngforde, William Trendell or any other having estate or possession in the premises, it shall be lawful to keep back as much from the rent of 40 marks in name of recompense. Writ of supersedeas in respect of their demand upon Thomas de Furnyvall and John Pelham knight, appointed by letters patent of 6 December last to receive and answer for all moneys arising of the subsidy upon wool, hides and woolfells and upon tunnage and poundage from that date until Michaelmas then next, and elsewhere than in the exchequer to render account thereof before certain persons specially deputed, certifying the treasurer and the chamberlains from time to time of the sums received from the collectors, to answer or account for the moneys aforesaid, and to certify them and the chamberlains; as the said Thomas and John have made oath in chancery that they received none, and with assent of the council their commission is given up in chancery to be cancelled.

Writ of supersedeas until the octaves of St. Hilary next, unless they shall have further order, in respect of their demand upon Thomas Wilton and Simon Stoke to answer or account for the issues or farm of the manors of Treuely, Chilham and la Molesshe co. Kent, that meantime debate may be had in chancery whether the keeping thereof ought to pertain to William Swynbourne esquire by virtue of letters patent of the king or to the said Thomas and Simon by virtue of other letters patent to them after made; as a plea is pending in chancery concerning the keeping thereof between the said William and the king and the said Thomas and Simon.

Writ of supersedeas omnino in respect of any process against John Lancastre, son and heir of William Lancastre knight by the late king appointed with others to make inquisition in Cumberland and Westmerland concerning extortions, misprisions and misdeeds against that king and Thomas bishop of Karliol there committed while the bishop was on that king's service, by whom, when and how, but order to proceed against others who did meddle therein; as that commission came not to the said William's hands, as the said John has made oath in chancery.

Writ of supersedeas omnino in respect of any process against Roger Trewythenek, by the late king appointed with others to make inquisition in Cornwall by whose default the public passage of ships and boats in the rivers is hindered, and meadows, pastures and sown lands adjacent are flooded and wasted by excessive elevation and straitness of weirs, mills, stanks, stakes and kiddles, and by another commission concerning goods and chattels and sums of money there pertaining to the king and from him concealed, by whom and how, for delivery of any estreats or inquisitions, but order to proceed against the others therein named; as those commissions came never to the said Roger's hands, as he has made oath in chancery.
