April 18.

John Wrothe knight to Payn Typtoft, John Pelham, John Typtoft knights, John More, John Boteller, Giles Harleston and Roger Hunte. Recognisance for 1,000 marks, to be levied etc. in Middlesex.
Joan who was wife of Sir John de Northwode knight, son and heir of Sir Roger de Northwode knight and of Juliana late his wife daughter of Sir Geoffrey de Say, to William de Makenade and William Emery, and to the heirs and assigns of William de Makenade. Release with warranty of all right in the manor of Horton by Canterbury, the reversion whereof by deed of 14 December 8 Richard II, at which date Christopher Shukkeburgh and Agnes his wife were tenants thereof for the life of the said Agnes, was given by Sir Roger de Northwode, son of the said Joan by Sir John her husband, to Thomas Chycche of Balverle, Gilbert Manfelde, Nicholas Potyn, John Dreylonde all now deceased, and to the said William and William and to the heirs and assigns of William de Makenade; and declaration that her said husband was son and heir of Sir Roger and Juliana. Dated 3 April 8 Henry IV.
Memorandum of acknowledgment at Northwode Chasteneres 16 April before Arnald Savage, by virtue of a dedimus potestatem which is on the chancery file for this year.

Richard Kyngeston warden of the king's free chapel of Wyndesore and the chapter or college to John Crukerne clerk. Recognisance for 200l., to be levied etc. of their lands and chattels and church goods whatsoever which concern the said chapel in Berkshire.
Condition, that the warden and chapter shall abide the award of William Gascoigne, William Thirnynge and William Hankeforde justices concerning all actions, plaints, debates and demands between them and the said clerk moved before 14 February last, so that such award be made before Whitsuntide next, and that meantime the warden shall prosecute against him no action, suit or plaint now or hereafter begun concerning the parish church of St. Stephen Saltasshe co. Cornwall, and shall make no entry by himself or by others upon the vicarage thereof, nor take the fruits and preventions of the same.
Memorandum that this recognisance was taken by William Molyns, by virtue of a dedimus potestatem which is on the chancery file for this year.
Nothing to be done thereupon until the other party shall make a like recognisance according to a judgment of the court.

Quitclaim of the manors of High Laufare and Depeden, and of all other lands, rents and services in Amberden, Wydyngton, Neuport, Uggele, Stanstede Montfichet, Bolyngton, Helpestones, Storteforde, Farnham and Rilchange (sic), and all other lands in Essex and Hertfordshire which were of John Depeden knight of Yorkshire in demesne and in reversion. Gift of all his goods and chattels quick and dead, moveable and immovable, his property and debts of every sort within the said city or elsewhere within the realm and on either side the sea. To R. bishop of Hereforde. Writ of supersedeas until further order, for particular causes, in respect of executing the writ hereinafter mentioned; as Alice de Drayton is suing in the king's court before the justices at Westminster against Roger Baylly of Staunton by Pembrugge for a messuage and one virgate of land there as her heritage of the seisin of Maud de Drayton her mother, whose heir she claimed to be, and the defendant took an objection that she is no heir, saying that she is a bastard as he was ready to prove, to which she replied that she is lawful and no bastard; and for that the cognisance of such a matter belonged to the ecclesiastical court, the king commanded the bishop to summon before him such as ought to be summoned, to make inquisition concerning the truth, and at a set day to certify to the justices what he should find.

To the treasurer and the barons of the exchequer. Writ of supersedeas omnino in respect of any process against John Bodenham late sheriff of Hereforde, appointed with others to make inquisition concerning the names of all there dwelling and in the march of Wales adjacent, who heretofore many times in contempt of the king and to his prejudice bought victuals of the rebels of Wales and sold victuals to them, thereby trafficking with the rebels, and sent thence to Wales quantities of victuals, armour and artillery to their succour and relief, but order to proceed against others who did meddle therein; as the said John has made oath in chancery that that commission came not to his hands.

Warrewyk, and shall fulfil and execute the same, so that the award be made before Allhallows next.

Memorandum of a mainprise under a pain of 200l., made in chancery 7 May this year by John Clerke of Worcestershire, William Bernarde of Kent, Robert Lirpole of Warwickshire and Roger Wode of Surrey for John Lirpole, that he shall do or procure no hurt or harm to Margaret his wife.

Writ of supersedeas in respect of their demand upon James Andrewe and John Beauver, to whom the king committed the keeping of the manors etc. hereinafter mentioned so long as they should remain in his hand, rendering yearly the extent thereof, and upon Simon Blyaunt, to answer for the extent of the manor of Hemnale in Hemnale co. Norffolk, 40s. of rent in Freton, Moryngthorp and 'Longestratton,' the manor of Cotton called Champayns, the manors in Cotton called Compayns and Yepeswyches, the manor in Thornham Pilcoke called 'Hemnaleshalle,' the manors of Skeyt in Wykham, Aspale Stonham and Boles in Yakesle co. Suffolk which were of Robert Hemnale knight and by his death were taken into the king's hand, or for the issues and profits thereof, until debate shall be had in the king's court between the king and the said Simon whether the said issues and profits and the said rent ought to pertain to the king or to him; as on his behalf petition is made, shewing that he was seised of the said manors and rent, without that that the said Robert in his life time ever had any estate therein, and continued his possession until unlawfully thrust out by colour of divers offices of his office taken before John Lestraunge late escheator in the counties aforesaid, and that he has offered himself in chancery to traverse those offices and other offices taken before the said escheator and others by command of the king, praying that the levy be stayed while his traverse is pending without debate; and the king is aware that if those offices shall hereafter be traversed he ought to remove his hand.
May 10.

Writ of supersedeas in respect of their demand upon Alice who was wife of Walter Brut, or upon the escheators or others whatsoever, to answer or account for the issues of two messuages and two carucates of land in Luyde Muchegroos co. Hereford until debate shall be had whether the same ought to pertain to the king or to her; as a plea is pending in chancery between the king and the said Alice concerning the premises, which were seized into the king's hand by name of certain lands etc. in Luyde Muchecros whereof Walter Brut who forfeited to the king died seised.

Order to cause proclamation to be made of an ordinance made among others in the parliament last holden at Westminster, that fewer ports in the realm shall be appointed for shipment of wool, and that the shipment thereof in 'crikes' and inlets shall be forbidden until the end of the next parliament, and to cause the same to be observed.

Quitclaim with warranty of all the messuage with garden adjacent in that town, between messuages of John Newmam on the north, Robert Daniell on the west and Joan Saunsoun and the said Robert on the south, which John Symme had by feoffment of Robert Daniell of Enfelde, and he by feoffment of John Gardyner of Enfelde. Memorandum of a mainprise under a pain of 40l., made in chancery 31 May this year by Master Anthony de Romanis physician, Gerard Gyle of Florence, John de Bert, Matthew de Azinino, both of Florence, Thomas Harewell and John Newell, both of Warwickshire, to have Oliver Caulcant of Florence in chancery from day to day until by the chancellor dismissed.
