Writ of supersedeas omnino in respect of any process against William Frost representative of the keepers of the city of York, Robert Gowe and John Dunnesby, appointed upon an information that William Hogat of York 'mercer' feloniously slew two men, and for that cause withdrew himself, and that he had divers goods and chattels to no small value which therefore pertained to the king, to make inquisition in Yorkshire what goods he had, the price or value thereof, and in whose hands they were, and in the king's name to arrest, levy and collect the same, or the price thereof if they exist not, and deliver them to the treasurer of the household for the expenses of the household; as that commission was not nor might be executed by them, as the said William and Robert have made oath in chancery.

Writ of supersedeas, for particular causes, until the quinzaine of St. Hilary next, and order to give notice that such as will give the king information concerning his right shall be in chancery at that day; as upon the finding of an inquisition, taken before Amandus Mounceux the late king's escheator in Northumberland, that Henry de la Vale knight at his death held divers manors and lands in chief by knight service, and great number of others in that county of that king and of others by divers services as jointly enfeoffed with Joan his wife yet living, and that Alice who was wife of John Whitcherstre was his sister and next heir, and was of full age, the late king took the homage and fealty of the said Alice, and commanded livery to be given her of the lands so held in chief, but caused his hand to be removed from the said jointure, and the issues thereof taken; and upon an information received that the said Henry died not so seised, but that John de Seton by charter gave those manors and lands to Robert de la Vale knight and to the heirs male of his body, that John son of Robert son of the grantee is his cousin and next heir male, and is within age, and that the premises ought therefore to be taken again into his hand and so remain during the heir's nonage, the late king appointed Matthew de Redeman, Thomas Umfreville, John de Felton, Thomas de Watton and Sampson Hardynge to make inquisition in Northumberland touching all the circumstances; and because that commission was not executed by the commissioners in that king's life time, the king has appointed William Gascoigne and the others to make inquisition likewise.

Strict order at his peril to cause proclamation to be made, that the men of townships whatsoever shall under the pains in the statutes contained keep watch by night, and by day and night make search to spy out thieves, and do their utmost to pursue and take them, as by the statutes they are bound to do, and order from time to time to take with him the posse comitatus, and repair in person to the towns, woods and places where robberies and thefts are most often committed, and give such diligence to spy out and take the thieves that no more robberies and thefts be in his bailiwick committed by his default or lukewarmness; as by report of many the king has true information that in every county great number of robberies etc. are now newly committed, more often in these days than in times past, by thieves in excessive numbers gathering together in unlawful assemblies, in contempt of the king and breach of the peace and to the terror of the lieges, whereat he is troubled, and especially because the sheriffs and the men of the townships give not diligence to spy out and take such thieves, as they are bound to do according to the statute of Winchester and other statutes; and his will is that a remedy be provided, and those statutes be observed.
