Request and order to take again and cancel letters patent made to Gregory Ballarde, chief butler of the late king's household, concerning a maintenance or corrody which he has for life within that abbey at the late king's request, if he will demise his estate therein, and to admit John Sutton esquire to their house, and minister to him that corrody for life, making and delivering to him letters patent under the common seal of the house with mention of what he shall take, and writing again by the bearer what they will do; as Gregory Ballarde is of a mind to demise his estate therein to the end that John Sutton may have it, and the king has sent John Sutton to them. Westhorpe.
Robert Baxtere of Gippewich to William Briggeman of Beklys. Recognisance for 20 marks, to be levied etc. in Suffolk.
Condition, that before Allhallows next Robert Kenge, William Elys of Beklys and Robert Pers of Beklys will before credible persons record that in their presence at Beklys an account was made of all debts and demands between the said Robert Baxtere and William Briggeman, and that all being so accounted Robert Baxtere was indebted to William Briggeman in 30s. 2d. or some parcel thereof, and after such record made Robert Baxtere shall acquit William Briggeman of 10 marks unlawfully recovered against him by Robert Baxtere in the court of Gippewich it is said, and of 20 marks wherein he is bound to William Wyght and Thomas Brasyere upon a bond given them for the 10 marks aforesaid.

Condition, that Robert Kynge, William Elys and Robert Pers will record (as above), and whether William Briggeman is indebted to Robert Baxtere in 10 marks or any parcel thereof or no, and if so that he shall straightway content Robert Baxtere of the whole sum wherein by such account he was indebted to him.

Walter Godard, Edmund Oldhalle, Lawrence Trussebut, Thomas Derham, Richard Peverell, Richard Bontable, William Champeneys, Robert Botelisham and John Wentworth to John Ingaldesthorp knight, John Glemham and Robert Trusse parson of Westhorp. Recognisance for 1,000l., to be levied etc. in Norffolk.
Memorandum of condition, that the said Walter and the others, or one of them, shall pay to the said knight and the others 100l. at Westhorp co. Suffolk on Christmas day next or before the Purification following, 100l. at Midsummer following or before St. Peters Chains, and so year by year at those feasts until 900l. be fully paid.
Memorandum that this recognisance was taken by the chancellor.

Writ of supersedeas, and order by mainprise of Richard Souleby, John Whytlay, William Elys and Thomas Gouge, all of Yorkshire, to set free John Newerk parson of Skirpenbeke in the diocese of York, if taken in default of finding mainpernors upon an information that he was purposing to pass to foreign parts in order to [prosecute suits] to the prejudice of the king and hurt of many of the people.

Westminster.
To the sheriff of Kent. Order at his peril upon sight etc. to cause proclamation to be made, that all knights, esquires and yeomen of Kent who yearly take any fees, wages or annuities of the king by grant of King Edward III, the late king, Edward late prince of Wales, the king's father or the king, or are of his livery and retinue, shall under pain of forfeiture cease every excuse and hasten to draw towards the city of London, every one furnished and arrayed as his estate requires, so that they be there on 23 September next at latest, in order to sail with the king to the marches of Calais, that at their coming the king shall deal with every one as his estate requires, and that if any of them shall not be able to travail, they shall send others in their names, furnished and arrayed as aforesaid; as the king's purpose is shortly to pass thither in person for defence of the marches and of his friends and allies in the parts adjacent, and to resist the malice of certain enemies of France, who are hastening thither with their whole power, as he has learned. Sept. 16.

To the sheriff of Bukingham. Order, upon petition of Roger Dayrelle tenant of the lands of Thomas Amoundesham and Alan Fitz Piers of Bukinghamshire both deceased, to cause John Payn of Bekenesfelde to come before the justices at Westminster in the quinzaine of Michaelmas in order to acknowledge or gainsay the writing hereinafter mentioned, and writ of supersedeas in respect of executing any writ to him addressed by virtue of a recognisance for 40l. to John Payn made by the two deceased before Richard de Garston then mayor of Oxford and John Bray then clerk deputed to take recognisances for debt at Oxford; as the said Roger has shewn that, although John Payn after made a release to him and the deceased of all actions for debt, account, breach of covenant, trespass and other personal action whatsoever, as by his writing produced in chancery may appear, John Payn is unlawfully suing for execution of the said 40l. upon the lands aforesaid, and the king has commanded the justices to summon before them the parties and others whom they shall see fit, to hear arguments on either side, and to deal further according to law and the custom of the realm; and John Barton of Bukinghamshire the elder, George Nesfolde of Yorkshire, Robert Botolfe of London 'goldsmyth' and Robert Charryngwort of Gloucestershire have mainperned in chancery that the petitioner shall prosecute that writ.
